Promise of freedom
-3rd person pov-
Three years later
it had gone three years since Smaug attacked Erebor. Adalinda's friendship with him grew each passing day as she yearned for freedom. She wanted to explore middle earth, but she knew Smaug wouldn't let her as he called her his prisoner, but now it was more friend. The vicious fire drake had grown soft under the princess eyes of emerald green and ocean blue. They were inseparable. But even though their friendship was more than Adalinda could ever ask for, she still missed her dwarf friends. The letters she received from Balin, thorin, and the twin brothers became more years. The dragon knew nothing about the letters, perhaps for the best. One day, this story section takes its place was a beautiful spring day. Birds flew here and there outside the mountain walls.
Adalinda sometimes saw them in her window as they brought food. The food in the mountain's warehouse had run out, and even though Smaug hunted for her and him together, not all she wanted was meat. This day was like the others; a raven came with a cluster of fresh berries. And another came with oranges. "thank you, my winged friends," Adalinda said and took the food that the ravens left on the windowsill. Then, both ravens flew their way with a kaw, and the princess turned back to her writing.
She had been writing a book for two months now. It was about a princess who fell in love with a low servant. But, unfortunately, they could not get together because, well, you know why. He was in a lower rank than her. "you spend a lot of time in this room, Princesse," a familiar, deep voice came from the doorframe. Adalinda turned and probably saw her friend Smaug standing there, leaning against the frame. the princess sighed, and a small smile crept on her red lips. "I'm doing that, Smaug. Now, why have you allowed me to talk to you? Are you not busy sleeping?" Smaug rolled his eyes and walked towards Adalinda.
"I have better things to do than that. Besides, I do not sleep all the time" he defended himself and sat down on the bed that stood in the corner of the great room. Smaug had never been here before. not that Adalinda had not let him; it was just that he had not found it. He would not have had it either if he did not follow the smell of Adalinda here. He had managed to transform into a human being for a few months now. It was painful, and it took a lot of his energy, but it was worth it. He could be much easier and spend time with his best friend, Adalinda.
Adalinda cared little about what form he took, as long as he did not hurt himself and was comfortable with it. Adalinda chuckled and put the ballpoint pen back on the shelf it was lying on, standing her suit down so that it was soft and clean. She showered in the river that ran through the mountain. It was cold, but it made her sterile. She had done it all the time she had lived here. "saw any fairy tales today, O Smaug?" she teased, but the question was genuine. Smaug shook his head and sat up as Adalinda sat next to him. "I think I might teach you to chase. But.. it's difficult in the .. form you are in now." he paused, nervous about how she would take it.
but area's princess was as happy as ever and tilted her head. "What are you trying to say, Smaug?" she asked, friendly and took his more significant hand in her more petite. She did not know that this little touch meant much to Smaug. He had found himself falling deeply in love with the young princess. He knew she would not love him back, so he said nothing. Smaug snatched from his mind and remembered why he came. he turned Adalinda's hand and opened it so he could put what he had in his.
In her hand now lay a gold pendant. pure gold and precious since it contained magical powers. "This is something I found in the treasure here the other day. I want you to have it," He said, and Adalinda smiled. The fire dragon gestured that she should turn around so he could put it on her, so she did just that. Then, when he had buttoned the lock of the little piece of jewelry, she turned around and showed him the result. just as he thought, the necklace fits her perfectly. he smiled a genuinely warm smile. "it suits you," he said and got up. "I want to go out hunting. Find me in the hall after." with that; he went out.
Adalinda looked down at the necklace that gleamed faintly. An eagle suddenly screeched; it had come with food. Adalinda looked up and thanked the eagle as it gave her the stick of fresh berries and some other fruit. he flew off again but was nearby in case she needed him.
Princess Adalinda went to a sleep that would not last long in happy thoughts. She felt that the jewelry could give her hope of freedom. But how? she would find out another day.
