Chapter 47

Tae and Namjoon climbed out of the car, Namjoon would be lying if he said he wasn't excited to hear what Tae had to say.

He just had to stop his parents from finding out that he was still delving into Yakuza business.

It would be hard not to, Yumei was unfortunately mixed up in this whole ordeal. But if she was truly the daughter of a Yakuza... She didn't show it.

They walked to his front door and it opened revealing his father, "Namjoon, we need-"

He paused as his eyes fell on Tae, "I forgot that your mother said you would bring a friend."

Namjoon noticed the nervousness in his father's voice. Something has him shaken up. "Yes, Tae and I need to finish up on our project."

His father nodded and stood back to let them pass, "Sure when you are done, I have to talk with you."

"Of course, we won't belong." He and Tae walked past and went to the stairs, his mother was nowhere to be seen. Funny she was usually in the kitchen but the house was quiet.

Namjoon let Tae up to his room, they entered and he closed the door. Tae turned around to face him. "Your room is cosy."

Tae looked around and his eyes fell on the book that was on his nightstand. "Is that-"

Namjoon nodded, "Yes. It is Yumei's book."

"You still haven't given it back?"

Namjoon shook his head, "No. I wanted to keep it for in case I needed it."

"Needed it for what?"

Namjoon walked and picked up the book, his ears were pink. "If I needed to talk to her again."

Tae rolled his eyes, "But you are."

Namjoon sat down on his bed and placed the book back. "Yes... But if it didn't work out as it did. This would have been my back up."

"Your backup? Are you serious? A book?"

Namjoon scowled at him, "It is not just a book, it is something that started our shared love for reading."

Tae held up his hands, "I am not trying to offend you."

Namjoon knew that was a bit harsh from his side and he didn't answer. Tae said he wanted to talk so let him talk.

Tae took in a deep breath, his hand was sweating and he didn't know how he should start.

He came to realise that he valued their friendship, and he could say it with pride that this was the first mission that he got that he made an actual friend.

He opened his mouth, "Joonie... what I am about to tell you can not leave these four walls."

Namjoon nodded.

"I am dead serious... And after you learn the truth you might not want to be with Yumei any more."

Namjoon snorted, that was not happening. "Nothing you say can make me stop seeing her."

Tae smiled, that was the answer he was looking for. "I am an undercover police agent."

He took a look at Namjoon's face to wait for his reaction and he continued. "I have been at university for two years to complete my mission."

"What is your mission?"

"My mission is to take down the Yakuza families."

"What!"

Tae placed his finger on his lips, Namjoon turned his voice down. When Tae was happy that he wouldn't burst out again, he continued his story.

"I was sent there so that I could keep an eye on you while you were playing detective in the Kazuma case."

Namjoon stared at Tae and his heart began beating faster.

"I had to report back to my sarge every time we would get closer to some truth."

Namjoon averted his gaze from Tae, so from the beginning, it was all lies.

Tae licked his lips, "That is not all, the story runs deeper than you think."

Namjoon's attention snapped back at him, "There are more? Or is it part of the lie you have kept for two years?"

Thay hit like a knife in his heart, he would explain to him later but he needed to tell him now.

"This dates back to the death of Yunari Kazuma."

Just as Namjoon thought, Tae wouldn't answer his question. "Who is Yunari?"

"Yunari Kazuma was Yumei's mother. She died in a shooting accident while she was pregnant with Yumei."

Namjoon blinked but if her mother died then who was the woman at the hospital. "That is-"

Tae interrupted, he had to get this off his chest or he will not let the truth pass his lips. "Yes, the man who shot her was Goro Kim. Jin Kim's father, he was in love with that girl since they have met but she only had eyes for Shito Kazuma."

Namjoon didn't utter a word, Jin? "Are you telling me that Jin is a yakuza?"

Tae nodded, "He is a yakuza, but you should know that by now."

Namjoon frowned, he was supposed to know this and then it clicked. "My father told me his brother was Goro..."

His breathing came in fast, he and Jin were related by blood? And he didn't even realise that, but he and Jim never talked about who their parents were.

That explained most of the strange things that he noticed when he was with Jin. The way he wanted him to stop looking for Yumei, not pressing pushing and he pushed back by not giving up.

"But why me?"

"Because you didn't know your heritage and therefore you were not a threat but I still had to keep an eye on you."

Namjoom averted his gaze, he was on the police radar?

"I am here to help my sarge get justice for what had happened to his sister, Yunari."

His thoughts were running with every word that Tae was telling him. All of this came back in a full circle to the Yakuza. "What are you planning to do?"

"I am not done yet, Joonie. The Yakuza is cunning and there are spies on both sides but my other job is to keep you safe. Something is going to happen and you shouldn't-"

"Hold up, you want me to quit after hearing your small revelation just now? I am going to help you and in the process free Yumei of this."

Tae looked taken aback, he wanted to free Yumei? But she was one of them and still Yunari's daughter.

His sarge never talked about her, but every shift he would read a letter before leaving the precinct. "Why do you want to save Yumei?"

Namjoon glared at Tae, "Because she is innocent."

"How do you know she is innocent?"

Namjoon didn't back down, "She doesn't have one evil bone in her body."

Tae was grinning now, he was doing his main mission that his sarge asked him to do. 'Make sure someone cares enough to free Yumei in the process.'

His sarge has never seen the girl, Shito had kept his family out of the spotlight and for good reasons. "Then let us save her Namjoon."

Namjoon smiled at Tae now, "Does that mean we are still friends?"

Tae stuck out his hand, "I have never doubt that you are my friend."

Namjoon stood up from his bed and clasped Tae's hand. "Of all the truth that I have heard, I think that you are my only friend."

They shook hands, "And in all honesty,  Joonie. You are my second best friend."

The let go of each other's hands, "Who is your other friend."

He saw worry flash over his eyes, "He infiltrated the Kim family."

Namjoon's mouth hung open, "He is a spy too?"

Tae nodded, "We have a mission to complete but he chose the most dangerous family to infiltrate."

Namjoon started pacing, "We will have to-"

There was a knock on the door, "Namjoon, I brought you some snacks."

Namjoon stopped pacing and Tae scattered some books that laid on his table to the bed and sat down, opening it on a random page.

Namjoon opened the door, "Mom! Wow!"

She stood there with a tray with cookies and creampuffs. "I thought you boys might get hungry."

She tried to peek in but Namjoon blocked her way by taking the tray. "Thank you mom, this will help us get the work done faster."

She nodded and stepped away. "Have fun."

Namjoon stepped back and closed the door behind him, "This is going to be difficult."

Tae nodded, "We would have to make the club the base of our operation from now on."

Namjoon placed the tray down, on his table. "I agree, but I think I know when Jin would move on his plan."

Tae lifted an eyebrow, "What plan?"

"I am not sure what the plan is but I do know that they are adamant on having a mystery party that they want me to organise."

Tae leaned forward and took a cookie, "Then let us plan the best mystery party they have ever seen and spring a trap."

Namjoon nodded, "Exactly my thoughts. I thought a bit about the party."

"Tell me."

"How about we make it a live Cluedo, where we solve a murder."

Tae bit into the cookie, "That could be dangerous."

"What do you mean?"

Tae chewed slowly, "How will we do that? We can not make it obvious that we are on to them."

Namjoon let out a sigh, he was right but what another mystery party could they possibly host? "What do you suggest we do?"

"A masked ball."

"Isn't that to cliched?"

"We will be wearing masks and Jin would not know who I am."

"Tae... how will spring a trap in a masked ball?"

Tae averted his gaze, Namjoon wasn't going to like what his answer would be.  "We would have to use, Yumei as bait."

Namjoon's hands formed into fists, "There is no way, I will put her life in that danger!"

"We might not have a choice, they are after her!"

"How do you know that?!"

Tae inhaled a small breath, "Because she is the key to the Kazuma family."
