Chapter 24
Yoongi heard the scream and turned his head backwards, 'What was that?' The scream sent a shiver down his spine, 'Was that Yumei?'
Namjoon ran from the spectators' side to the field towards Yumei, 'Why did that girl do that?' He reached her and knelt her face was contorted in pain. "Miss Dodjima?"
Yumei opened her eyes, "Joonie, my-my leg..." her voice was hoarse. His eyes moved down to her leg, it was swollen.
"Hold on, I will get you to the infirmary." He placed his left arm under her shoulders to lift her and she let out a scream, "I am sorry, it will be over soon."
He gently brought her legs up with his right arm to ger it under them and lifted her; bridal style. Her breathing became rapid, "If you can put your arm around my neck so you don't fall."
Yumei gritted her teeth and placed her right arm around his neck, she laid her head against his chest. His heart was beating frantically, but at the same time it was calming her and the pain was excruciating.
Namjoon adjusted his grip again to make sure she was secure, her nails dug in his shoulder, 'Namjoon you have to move now.' He couldn't run with her, that would just mess up her leg more than it already was.
"Yuki, you have to stay awake." He started walking from the field, Yumei didn't answer him and Namjoon walked clumsily trying to make it less painful.
The only way he knew that she was still awake was when she dug her nails into his back. He wanted to get her mind off the pain, "Do you want to hear a story about a little girl who changed my world?"
Yoongi was looking back, 'Shit he still couldn't see a thing.' He was about to walk back to the beginning when he saw Unmei running towards them.
Unmei heard the scream that went up to the sky, she closed her eyes and re-opened them, 'I am so sorry, I am so sorry.' Tears started running down her cheeks, what she was doing was out of her nature and she wiped at her tears furiously.
She looked up at them, she hoped that they hadn't noticed that she was crying. "Mr Kim! Kiryu!"
Yoongi and Jim turned their full attention to her, Yoongi answered first. "What happened?"
Unmei was out of breath, she ran her faster than she was told to run, she looked past Yoongi at Jin who gave her a nod. "It was horrible, the girl I ran against fell over something that stuck in the ground-"
Yoongi took a step forward and placed his hand on her shoulder, "Take a breath, Unmei and start again."
Unmei inhaled and exhaled, "The girl who I ran against tripped over something and there was this cracking sound-"
Yoongi's blood stopped cold, Yumei got hurt? He gulped, he had to go to her. "Why didn't you stop?"
Unmei looked him in the eye, he saw there were dried tears on her cheek. "I haven't noticed until I saw she wasn't with me anymore, I took a glance back and saw she was on the ground."
Yoongi lifted an eyebrow, 'Her story wasn't adding up.'
"How do you know there was a cracking sound?"
He saw anger flash over her face, "The spectators told me while I was running here."
Yoongi wasn't convinced but he let it slide, he turned to Jin. "I am sorry but I have to check on her."
Jin was standing close behind him, "I'll come with you, she was under my care I should be there."
Unmei didn't utter another word she only turned her head when Jin told her to tell Hoseok that he was in charge for the rest of the day.
Yumei lightly dug her nails in Namjoon's back, he took that as a yes to his question. It might help her to forget about her pain.
He weaved between the people as carefully as he could. "Well, seven years ago I was reading in the park."
He rolled his eyes down to see if he could see her face but she had her face down. "While I was reading, a girl appeared, she was wearing this ridiculous pink tutu dress thingy, with two pigtails."
He felt her nails in his back again, "She told me she had never been outside in her life, I haven't believed her and I only wanted to see her smile."
He adjusted his grip again and opened the door leading to the main building of the university. "I offered to buy her ice cream, I have never seen someone getting excited over something so trivial as ice cream."
"Di-did she like the ice cream?" Yumei's voice was a small whisper.
She answered finally, that brought him so much relief, he only had a few more turns before getting at the infirmary.
"She wanted a chocolate ice cream but she was so overwhelmed at the flavours available at the store that she took a vanilla-chocolate swirly."
Yumei clutched the rim of his shirt tighter, he knew she was in pain and he was trying his best to hurry. "That time she opened my eyes to the world anew."
Yumei blinked through the pain, his story confirmed that he was the boy and she enjoyed to hear the story from the mouth of another. His heartbeat was easing her, "How did she do that?"
Namjoon turned left, good she was still listening. "She made me realise that one should always look at the world through the eyes of a child for it can make the world a happier place.
Yumei's heart skipped a beat at his words. She liked to think that she hadn't lost her childlike demeanour.
When he turned the right corner, Tae came out of the door. Namjoon paused in time, the door almost hit them. Tae looked at him then at the girl in his arms.
" Joonie, what-"
"I am sorry, Tae. I don't have time to explain, I have to get to the infirmary."
Tae closed the door, "This looks serious, I will go on ahead and let them know."
Tae ran to the infirmary, Namjoon adjusted his grip once more and Yumei gritted her teeth. "I am sorry, Miss Dodjima. It will be over soon."
"Call me Yuki."
He smiled at this, that meant he was doing a good job to get on a first-name basis. "You can keep calling me Joonie."
Yoongi and Jim ran to the spot Unmei told them were Yumei fell, there was no one and the spectators had moved on.
Yoongi was scanning the ground frantically, there was nothing that suggested someone could have tripped.
Jin was at his side, "Where could she have gone?"
Yoongi turned his head where the other students were, someone should know what happened. He ignored Jin and walked to a few students who were watching the archery.
"Sorry to bother you, but could you tell me what happened to the girl who fell?"
They looked at him and started talking simultaneously he held his hands up, "One at the time."
"Well, we didn't see what happened from the beginning but we believe another guy went to her aid. He carried her from the field."
Yoongi narrowed his eyes, that meant she was safe but not safe. "Where is the infirmary?"
"We don't know, you should ask Mr Kim."
He thanked them and walked back to Jin. "Mr Kim, where is the infirmary?"
Jin placed his hand over his chin. "They told you what happened?"
What games was he playing? He didn't have time to play q and a with his brother. He had to get to Yumei, he was already thinking about the great speech he was going to get tonight.
They might remove him from her side, so he will have to defend himself, again. "They have, someone took her from the field."
Unmei walked over to Hoseok, "Are you happy now?"
Hoseok lifted an eyebrow, "Do you think you should take that tone with me, Miss Sato?"
Unmei bit her lip, she was so angry to have gotten mixed up in the Yakuza business.
She had never believed when Yoongi told her eight years ago that he was the son of a notorious Yakuza head, but after he had disappeared from her life that was when she accepted his truth.
Now they took her family to play this little power game and she was in the middle. She was happy to have seen Yoongi again after all these years but they made it a burden.
Her mission was simple, distract him so that he didn't have any thoughts about this girl who he hung around with.
That was easier said than done, she knew his heart he will protect her till he doesn't breath anymore. Now they want her to ruin him and she didn't want to do this.
She agreed so that they wouldn't harm her family and she asked them clearly that it was only to distract him and Jin looked her in the eye and said yes.
Then Hoseok came to her with her mission, break the girl's leg. She didn't breath and told him no. Hoseok grabbed her arm and told her to think about her family.
So she agreed, "I will speak to you as I please."
Hoseok reached out and cupped her chin, "You should think twice but if you want an answer, Jin was happy with your performance so keep it up."
He let go of her chin and left her standing there. Unmei felt the tears running down her cheeks, 'Yoongi, forgive me.'
Jin nodded, "I think Namjoon was the one who helped her."
"Tell, me where the infirmary is, so I can check up on her." Yoongi made a mental note, the 'stalker' had the same name but how does he fit in with Jin?
Jin removed his fingers from his chin, "I am still coming." Jin moved to the tree where her bags were and picked it up and held it out to Yoongi. "Coming, Mr Shoma?"
Yoongi grabbed the bag and they both walked to the main building of the university.
Namjoon turned another corner and saw Tae was standing outside the door. "The nurse said we should phone an ambulance."
Namjoon feared that that would be the case. "Would you mind calling one?"
Tae showed him his phone, "I already did and the nurse said you should bring her in so that they can make her more comfortable."
Tae opened the door for them, "Thank you, Tae."
Namjoon entered and was greeted by the nurse. "Her leg is really swollen, put her here."
Namjoon lowered his head near Yumei's ear. "Bite through he pain alright?"
