Chapter 5 ≈Hand in Hand≈
-•Week 1 Part 2•-
I was at the mall again, third time this week. What was wrong with me? It's not like he's going to show up. He didn't before. It was a one time thing. I continued drinking my sprite, mentally laughing at my stupidity. Get real Garroth for once in your life. I check my phone to check the time. It was 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I can't believe I've been here for three hours. I started to pack up my things to get ready to leave the mall, but then I heard laughing. Girl voices were saying the same thing in the same flirtatious tone, but I couldn't see where it was coming from. Then I spotted it. There were three girls surrounding a guy, but I couldn't see him because the whores gathered around him. Uh...sorry about that word. I spotted tufts of brownish hair peeking out above a girl's head. She moved to grab onto his arm again and I could see him clearly. That childish grin plastered onto a handsome face. Blue eyes scanning the area around them. I kept staring, like last time. He was always with girls, of course, because he couldn't possibly be gay for my sake right? He walked with a spark in his step, probably because he had desperate girls climbing all over him. His hands were stuffed in his jean pockets and two of the girls were gripping onto his arms giving each other occasional glares. The other girl walked in front of him, not even looking at him. She had hair that looked like a burning fire as it swayed from left to right. They were walking close enough that I could now hear them.
"Look we need to go to the fabric store because I need new supplies for a project!" The girl with flame hair exclaimed, still not looking behind her.
"Ugh..Cadenza if Laur doesn't want to go to the fabric store he doesn't have to!" One of the girls screamed with anger in her words.
"Well "Laur" can make his own decisions. He could dump your ass on the tile right now, but hey that's none of my business. He said he would spend time with me today." I like that girl. She has something the other two don't, dignity. They eventually walked too far for me to hear, but I still stared at his gorgeous features. I hate myself...
-•Laurence POV Present Time•-
Was that really Garroth, or was he possessed by someone? I was walking with Emily because we decided to walk to Olive Garden. Nobody was talking to us and all I could think about was that blondie. Was that how he really felt?
"Laur. Who exactly is that guy?" I gulped.
"He's...uh...my best friend..." I trailed off faintly at the end. Best friend...
"That psycho is your best friend? How come I've never heard of him?" She was spitting daggered words at me. Her brown hair was a tangled mess now because of the wind, and her teal eyes were cold and barren.
"Emily. It's because I knew this would happen." I couldn't look at her, and we were traveling far behind the group. Everyone was smiling, laughing, genuine smiles. Most of them with relationships. Then there was me. Yeah I have a relationship, but Emily has a side I didn't notice until a week ago. A very dark side.
"Knew what would happen Laurence?!" She stopped and made me turn to look at her. Nobody saw this happening, I bet they forgot we were there. Ever since I brought Emily to the group two weeks ago, the group became distant of me, even Dante and Travis, my closest friends besides...him.
"That you would get angry at him for absolute no reason whatsoever! You always get pissed off at me if I even look at another person!" I'm angry now, and I think some people heard me yelling and stopped. "I used to think you were a great person then you started to become a complete bitch. Ugh...what was I even thinking with you?! I'm such a blind idiot." I start turning the other way, away from the group to head home and sort my head out.
"LAURENCE GET BACK HERE THIS ISN'T OVER!" Emily was shouting at me, and I turned to look at everyone's faces. Faces of pure confusion, yet happiness? Whatever.. I heard whispering before I heard soft footsteps walking behind me. Tears were streaming down my cheeks and I couldn't talk to anyone right now.
"L-Laurence...I-I-I-I'm s-s-so s-sorry....I-I d-didn't m-m-mean f-f-for that t-to happen..." I stopped and my heart skipped a beat. I didn't turn around. I felt...nervous.
"G-Garroth please..." Tears were flowing harder down my face, and I shakily continued to walk, crossing my arms for warmth in the night. He was walking behind me still.
"L-Laurence. I-I-I-I'm sosososo s-sorry. I-I-I d-don't want to l-lose y-you as a f-friend..." He sounded so sad. Sigh....I can't ignore him. I turn around to face him. He looked so...handsome. NO. Shut up Laurence. You idiot. I sigh at him and look him in the eyes.
"Garroth. Are you serious...? I would never leave you even for some girl. You're my best friend." He was fighting back tears, and so was I. "Alright come here." I held out my arms to him and he looked shocked, but eventually ran into my chest and wrapped his arms around my waist. I wrapped my arms around his back and held him close. It was warm and nice. Just a bro hug....just a brother hug. We let go and I felt my body become cold again. We smile at each other then laugh at our patheticness. When we got back to the group, surprisingly they were still there, but not Emily.
"Where did she go?" I asked them.
"Oh uh...we sorta maybe told her to go crawl back into a hole. Maybe." Katelyn said holding back a laugh and looking away. I laughed, and eventually everyone else did too. We continued walking to Olive Garden, but this time, Garroth dragged me over to Dante and Travis. Dante and Travis kept smirking at me and I didn't understand why. Garroth was talking to Travis while I was talking to Dante.
"Laurence finally you got rid of that chick. I tried to be nice but damn." Dante said, still smirking.
"Well...I thought she was nice. Guess back to the mall to start again." I felt something grip my hand stronger. I also heard fangirl squealing in the background, but ignored it because it was just typical Katelyn, Aphmau and KC.
"Wait why the mall?" He looks at me with confusion, but still smirking.
"Well because that's where I found a lot of my past girlfriends."
"Oh...why didn't they work out?"
"Eh all different reasons." He simply nods and we continue walking, when it hits me. The smirking, fangirling, the warmness and sparks. Oh my Irene....
I hadn't let go of Garroth's hand.
-•Garroth POV•-
I'm talking to Travis while Laurence and Dante are talking.
"So Garroth. Handy how all our friends live near each other huh?"
"Uh...y-yeah...I-I-I guess..."
"Well our friends can be a total handful. Am I right?" He kept putting emphasis on the word hand. What is he doing?
"Uh...I-I-I guess...why d-do you keep p-putting emphasis on the w-w-word hand?"
"What? No I'm not, but hey don't you think I'm the handsomest guy on Mystreet? I think my hotness is too hot to handle. It's like I was handcrafted by the Gods. They must've handwoven me with the most beautiful of materials, and only with their bare hands of course. I must be their most prized handicraft, right? Hey did you know that men can be truly judged on their manliness through their handiness? I mean some are merely stagehands while others are handymen. Also-"
"T-TRAVIS P-P-PLEASE W-WHAT'S S-S-SO G-GREAT ABOUT H-HANDS?!" I couldn't take it anymore. He was using way to many words with the word hand in them. What was this guy's point? I must've shouted too loudly because everyone stopped walking and looked at me, especially Laurence who was on my left. Travis suddenly burst out into laughter and was on the concrete, clutching his stomach. "T-TRAVIS!? A-ANSWER ME. W-WHY W-W-WERE YOU USING S-SO MANY WORDS W-WITH THE WORD H-HAND?!" He continued laughing, louder this time and eventually I heard laughter from Dante. I threw my hands in the air and screamed what at the group, but I heard a grunt from next to me. I looked at my left hand in the air and saw another hand connected to it. I looked at Laurence. He was looking at me with shock and annoyance. My face flushed an extreme red with embarrassment and I let him go. I made a whimper sound and continued walking. Oh my Irene...I still haven't gotten over him....
We finally made it to Olive Garden and Aphmau couldn't hold her excitement.
"Babe calm down. It's just Olive Garden." Aaron said, but was quietly chuckling.
"I DON'T CARE AARON." I think she meant to sound mean, but didn't. The host lead us to a large table in a separate room, which is lucky. On the end was Aaron, then Aphmau to his left, Katelyn, Travis, Zane, Reese (who showed up later), Kawaii~Chan, Dante on the other end, Vylad, Nicole, Cadenza, Laurence, me, then Lucinda on the right of Aaron. They purposely stuck me next to Laurence. I was shaking because how could that happen without me noticing?! I've never really talked to Lucinda so I couldn't find safety talking to her. I looked over at Zane. He looked angry like always. Aphmau befriended him and he soon was invited to almost every group activity. We don't really talk much, which actually hurts. I'm close to Vylad, but Zane, I'm far from being close. The waitress took our orders then sped to the kitchen to give the orders. I was sitting there in silence. Laurence was talking to Cadenza, but I looked to my left to see that Lucinda wasn't talking either. Okay you can do this Garroth.
"Uhm....h-h-h-h-hi...L-L-L-Lucinda..." My voice was faint, but she heard me and smiled.
"Hello, Garroth, right?" She had such a flirtatious tone, but I heard this is how she normally is. I nod my head. "Hmmm you're a real cutie aren't you?" Was she flirting with me? Oh my Irene.
"Uh uh uh uh uh uh uh-" I couldn't find words. I've never been flirted with.
"Lucinda leave Garroth alone." Aphmau spoke from across the table, but was giggling.
"Oh come on Aphmau. I wasn't actually flirting with him. It's just my personality~." I gulped nervously and munched on a breadstick.
"GARROTH DID YOU JUST EAT MY BREADSTICK?!" Aphmau shrieked at me and I swallowed the last of the breadstick. I'm. So. Dead. I shake my head, scared out of my mind. "GARROTH!!!" She screeched louder and now the whole table was looking at her and I. Oh no...no no no no no no...I hate attention. I shrunk back into my seat and I could see she was staring at me.
"Uh Aph calm down okay?" Aaron. He was holding back a chuckle, pulling her arm down. She huffed and turned away. Everyone was staring at me and I quickly burst out of the room. I ran outside and started to walk. My vision started flashing white, then back to reality, bright white, reality, bright white, reality, bright white.
"Garroth Ro'meave could you come up and talk for O'khasis Prep?" The principal's voice boomed throughout the auditorium. I shakily stood up from the front row to walk up the stairs that lead to the stage.
The room was twitching from outside darkness to O'khasis Auditorium.
I look out amongst the students, all looking at me with dull, angry eyes. I grabbed the mic and began speaking, not hearing my voice. I felt my heart dropping, my throat hoarse, legs wobbly, head pounding, hands shaky, and worst of all, bullying looming in my future.
The scene twitched again, back to reality, and my knees fell to the ground. Why was I remembering that now? I sat there on the concrete for a bit, before heading back inside. I can't let them think something's wrong with me. When I walked in, I was looking at the floor, silently sitting back in the chair. The food came, and no one said a word to me. Guess they didn't want to startle me. I sighed, then began to remove my hand from my lap to start eating. My hand was stopped roughly and set back into place. I see a tan hand gripping tightly onto my paler one, and I automatically knew it was Laurance. I didn't say anything just looked at him. He had his right hand placed under his chin, looking at the opposite end of the table. His face was scarlet and he refused to look at me. He forced my right hand under the table to hide it along with his. Why was he doing this? My face was probably a tomato and before you knew it someone questioned me.
"Hey Garroth are you okay? Your face is really red...I'm sorry about earlier, you know me! I didn't mean to frighten you like that." It was Aphmau smiling sadly at me.
"Oh! Y-Y-Yeah! J-J-Just not used t-t-to the attention!" I squeaked. The grip on my hand got stronger and I felt like it was going to snap off of my wrist. Is he trying to snap it off?! I give him a look trying to tell him, but he looks everywhere that I'm not. Everyone finished their food and chipped in to pay. We all started leaving, but as soon as I started to get up, a hand pulled me back down roughly into the chair. Nobody noticed and just continued walking out of the room, and eventually it was just me and Laurance. "L-Laurance...we need to g-get home.."
"I know. I was waiting for everyone else to leave."
"W-W-What? W-W-Why?!" I was blushing again of course, and he still didn't look at me, more specifically, at the exact opposite of where I am.
"Because. You're worrying me and you're spending the night at my place."
"B-B-B-But I-I-I didn't s-s-say t-t-that I w-was..."
"Yeah well you don't have a choice blondie." He laughs and I frown at him. "Ugh...I mean...damn it. Screwed that up. Forget that." He finally looked at me, and I could now see the faint pink spread across his cheeks. "Come on. Don't make me carry you." Is it bad that I actually wanted him to carry me...? Garroth! Get over your crush on him! He stands up, and I refuse to move. He tugs at my arm, but I remain in place. "Garroth come on they need to clean the table!" I still sat there and he kept tugging at my arm. He grumbled, but then I was swooped up and placed on his shoulder. "Pretend your asleep." I laugh, but he slaps me lightly on the head with his other hand. I then pretend I'm asleep, blushing a bright scarlet, no, ruby.
-•Laurance POV•-
I can't believe I'm doing this and liking it. I just broke up with my girlfriend, I don't feel sad, now I'm carrying my best friend on my shoulder like a wasted guy at a bar. I step out of the Olive Garden doors, not after getting looks from people. Ugh...Garroth only for you. What I didn't expect was to see the group standing there waiting for us.
"What took you dorks forever?!" Katelyn yelled angrily.
"Well Garroth fell asleep and none of you noticed. I now have to carry him."
"Laurence~kun's going to carry Garroth~kun all the way back to Dante~kun's place?" KC asked confused.
"Oh uh he's not going back there. He's going home with me." Dante and Travis bursted out laughing while Aphmau was screeching. "Oh my Irene it's not what it looks like. We promised that tonight we would finish Uncharted 4."
"But that's single player, and Garroth never mentioned this~." Dante smirked and said creepily.
"Ugh leave me alone. I have no reason to explain to you." I started walking again, holding him tightly on my shoulder.
"AHHHHHH GAURANCE FINALLLYYYY!!! I TOLD YOU KAWAII~CHAN IT WOULD HAPPEN!!" Aphmau screamed so loud I can imagine London heard. She eventually stopped and we all walked as a group back to Mystreet. Everyone waved their goodbyes and walked into their houses.
"Alright Garroth you can stop pretending now." I whisper to him. He nods and I gently remove him from my shoulder. We both got into my car and drove to my apartment.
"I'm hooommeeeee~!" He says excitedly to the apartment, laughing. He's rarely ever at his house anyway. He might as well live here. "S-So....U-Uncharted 4 huh?" He bursts out laughing on the couch and I just scoff at him. The idea kept coursing through my head.
What if Garroth lived with me?
And that's it for the chapter! I hope you all enjoyed all 2844 words! Ahhhhh just kiss already!
L: No I'm straight.
Me: Are you sure about that?
L: YES!
Me: Laurance you're as straight as a rainbow ferris wheel.
L: SHUT UP YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING
G: I-I-I like rainbow f-ferris wheels.
L: GARROTH GET BACK IN THE LIVING ROOM!
