Part 5 - Khushi

I was busy finishing up my homework early morning in the class before the lecturer came in, the entire weekend Anju wasn't feeling really well so I was around her taking care of her and that's why I hadn't done my homework.

I noticed when Nina settled down beside me but I was in a rush to finish my homework I dint even greet her or anything.

"Did you hear the news?" She asked to which I nodded negatively not knowing which news she was talking about but right now I really wanted to finish my homework so I wasn't paying attention to whatever the news was.

"Wow, you really don't care about what's happening around right?" She asked giggling, I finally lifted my head up from the books and looked at her, she was dressed in a pretty red dress and her hair was curled, she looked beautiful.

"Right now I just care about finishing my homework really." I shrugged as I turned back to my books.

"Oh, so were you at the party over the weekend like everyone else?" She asked.

"Nina, I have important things to do than attend some stupid parties really." I rolled my eyes, why would she think I was to any party? I wasn't the partying kind of a guy, I'd prefer staying at home and reading a good book instead.

"Okay, I can see you really want to finish that homework so finish it, I'll tell you about the news at lunch time." She said as she stood up.

"And where are you going?" I asked.

"I am not in this class if you dint notice it already, I just came to talk to you but you are busy so I'll see you at lunch." She smiled at me.

"Sorry, I'm just concentrating on this but yeah, I'll see you at lunch." I smiled at her as she walked away and a few minutes after, Rishabd walked in and sat beside me.

Now I really hoped Nina hadn't left, okay not that I dint like Rishabd or anything, he was my friend but he wasn't letting me finish my homework.

"Dude! You should have been at the party, it was entertaining, full of drama." He laughed, I looked at him and just sighed and I went back to my books, why was everyone talking about the party? Parties happened all the time, so what was important about this one anyway?

"Not to be rude or anything Rish, but right now I'm trying to finish homework so can you please take the party gossip somewhere else?"

"Why are you such a nerd." Rish said it more as a statement as he stood up and walked out of the class, bunking classes was his specialty, I wonder why he came to college when he was always bunking classes anyway, it was a waste of fees.

At lunch, as I walked to the cafeteria, I passed people around the corridors and everywhere else just talking about some party, what was it about that it was so important to everyone?

I looked around hoping to get a glimpse of Khushi, I made sure to look at her daily just to admire how beautiful she was, but today I hadn't seen her around, she had been in none of the classes neither was she anywhere else to be seen.

I walked inside the cafeteria and looked around until I spotted Nina seated on a table at the far end, she waved her hand at me so I walked towards her and settled down.

"I got chips, I hope it's okay, I don't really know what you eat mostly and I thought you'd have to stand in line so I just bought yours with mine." She said as she pushed a plate towards me.

"It's okay, I eat everything and thanks for getting this for me." I smiled at her.

"You're welcome." She smiled, I started eating while I kept on looking around, still trying to find her, where was she today? I mean she could always skip classes but she never missed lunch, she was always in the cafeteria eating like there was no tomorrow, but today she wasn't here too.

A part of me was worried about her, I just hoped that she was okay, even though she was rude, manner less and mean, I still cared about her.

"Remember I was telling you about the party in the morning, everyone has been talking about it." Nina started the conversation, I looked at her curiously, now I really wanted to know what was happening because everyone was just talking about it.

"I heard rumors that Khushi was there too, the popular girl, ofcourse she must be in all the parties but I heard she created lots of drama in this one." Nina said.

As soon as she mentioned Khushi's name, she had all my attention, no wonder everyone was talking about it, it was related to Khushi and people here seemed to care a lot more about her life than their own.

"I heard that she had a terrible argument with some guy and he called her really terrible names, she even slapped him or punched him, something like that and then she got drunk like crazy until one of her friends from the ones that follow her took her home.

I feel so bad for her, being popular comes with a lot of issues I swear, the poor girl dint even come to school today, I wonder what she must be going through." Nina said sadly.

I had always had a lot of gossips about parties and Khushi but they were always about her being with guys or doing other funny stuff, never had I heard of her arguing or punching someone.

"I don't feel like eating really, my stomach's upset I think I'm going to skip the rest of the afternoon classes and go home." I said as I stood up.

"Is it bad?" Nina looked at me worriedly.

"Not really, I'll just take some painkiller and sleep, I'll be fine, I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Sure, take care." She smiled at me faintly to which I nodded and then walked away, I was really worried about Khushi and I wanted to make sure she was okay so I did the most stupidest thing I never thought I'd do, I skipped my classes so I could go see her at her place.

She hated me and I dint even know how she was going to react on seeing me there, plus I had only seen her house from outside, I had never been inside so I knew it was a terrible idea, but I just really wanted to make sure she was okay.

*****

I parked my car and looked at the huge mansion in front of me nervously, I was kind of nervous to go in but I did anyway. I walked in through the main door and I was welcomed by a huge hall inside, all white that had beautiful golden chandeliers hanging.

Everything placed around was white, the sofa, the stands, the flower vases and the flowers in the vases too were white, it was beautiful but completely empty.

I dint even know where Khushi was at the moment so how was I going to see her? Luckily one of the servants who was dressed in white too walked towards me.

"Who do you want to see?" He asked.

"I am Khushi's friend, she dint come to college so I came to check on her, can you tell me where she is?" I asked, he looked at me from top to bottom silently for a while and then nodded.

"Head upstairs, the first room on your right is hers, you'll find her there and should I get you anything to drink?" He asked.

"No, I'm good." I smiled at him, he nodded as he walked away while I headed up the stairs climbing them slowly and nervously.

Maybe she was going to punch me and throw me out, why was I even stupid to come here? I still had time, I could turn back and leave but then I also wanted to see her and just be sure she was fine, God! Why was I acting so strange?

I stopped at the door of the first room on my right, it was shut so I inhaled a deep breath and knocked on it nervously, I waited for a while hoping she would open but she didn't.

Maybe I was too nervous that I might have knocked slowly, maybe she dint even hear me knocking, so I knocked once again and waited to no response once again.

I should leave already. I knocked for the third time telling myself that if she doesn't open the door now, I would just leave but gladly I heard her footsteps so I knew she was coming to open the door.

"You know I'm going to fire you all one day, dint I tell you not to disturb me!" She shouted angrily as she finally opened the door and looked at me, the angry expressions were replaced my surprise as she looked at me with her bloodshot eyes wide open.

"Arnav." She whispered and all I could notice was how her voice trembled and how the color of her eyes clearly stated that she had been crying, was whatever the happened really that bad? What argument did she have with that guy that had left her this hurt?
