Part 3 - Romance Novels
I passed by the hallway where I found Khushi busy arguing with a guy, I had seen her with him so many times and anyway that was none of my business so I just ignored them and headed to the parking lot minding my own business.
I had to pass by the bookstore and pick up a few books for my sister so I was in a hurry because the bookstore closed in half an hour, I had to be there before it closed otherwise she was going to kill me if I dint go with her books.
I got inside my car, switched it on and drove outside the gate where I saw Khushi, she was standing in the scorching heat looking around, I opened the window and looked at her.
"Is there a problem?" I asked, she looked at me angrily like she wanted to just punch me or something right away.
"Don't ask like you care." She replied rudely looking away from me, she folded her arms and frowned, she looked beautiful even while frowning like a baby and I had this urge of pulling her cheeks, weird I know, but this girl just made me feel a lot of things.
"I am asking because I care Khushi, is something wrong?" I asked once again, she walked closer to my car leaned on the window and looked at me with the same anger.
"I just broke up with my boyfriend because of you! Why was I even stupid to spread that kind of a rumor? I came to school with him and now he wouldn't drop me home so I'm waiting for a taxi and unless you're a taxi leave!" She was really pissed and I wish I could make her calm down but it really wasn't my fault, she spread a rumor and all I did was to say it was fake, I don't think I did anything wrong anyway.
"Get in the car, I'll drop you." I offered, no matter how she was behaving with me at the moment, I just couldn't me mean to her, I liked this girl, so much I could tolerate shit from her.
"Why? So you can tell everyone tomorrow that you gave poor Khushi lift, and by the way it all happened because of you." She shouted, why did she have to be so angry on me anyway? I was just trying to help, besides she's the one who started all this, I was fine existing on my own and admiring her from afar.
"I won't tell anyone anything I promise, it's too hot, stop standing in the sun, I will drop you home, come on, get in the car."
She looked at me for a moment and then after thinking for what seemed forever, I unlocked the door and she got inside, she settled down while she looked at me with a frown on her face, she folded her arms just like before and looked ahead.
"Don't think you're doing me any favor, I would have had a ride home if it wasn't because of you anyway." She shrugged.
"Okay." I nodded and drove off, she kept on looking outside the window all the while, she still seemed really angry, but she was cute even when she was angry.
She always managed to take my breath away.
"I need to get some books before the store closes, hope you don't mind." I said.
"It's your car, do whatever the hell you wish to, I don't really care." She replied without looking, God this girl was so difficult.
I parked the car outside the bookshop and headed inside, I handed the seller a list of books I needed, she got them for me within a few minutes, I paid her as I grabbed the bag full of books and headed back to the car, I placed the bag on the backseat as Khushi turned to look at me.
The bag fell aside as a few books fell out of it, she looked at them and then started laughing, one moment she's angry and one moment she's laughing, like I said, this girl was difficult.
"What?" I asked as I straightened the bag, picked up the books that had fallen and put them back inside before I headed back to the driver's seat.
"You read romance novels." She laughed, what was funny about a guy reading romance novels, not that they were mine or I was going to read them but I don't think it was funny if I would like to read romance novels.
"They aren't mine, they are my sister's and even if I do, what's bad in reading? It expands your knowledge" I asked as I switched on the engine.
"You really are a nerd, anyway you'll have to take a right turn from ahead I live..." she started instructing me.
"I know." I interrupted her.
"You know where I live? What are you, a stalker?" She asked as she looked me with her eyes wide open, did she really think I was a stalker? I mean the time I'd waste stalking someone I'd rather put it in better use like reading. No wonder people called me a nerd. All I could ever think about was doing homework or reading.
"No, I'm not a stalker but I just know, I used to live nearby, I mean not really nearby, I'm not as rich as you, but that was a few years back, we shifted somewhere else." I said as I drove off.
"Strange, I never saw you." She said, she was still looking ahead and he hair kept on falling on her face every now and then and she kept on tucking it at the back of her ears. How was it possible for someone to look this beautiful? I mean this was the question I'd ask myself every time I saw her.
"Maybe you did, let's say I wasn't that important to remember, or there wasn't anything about me worth remembering." I said, it was a fact that I knew, I mean who would really want anything to do with a nerd? Not that I was a terrible looking person, I've been told many times that if I only got rid of the round spectacle I wore usually, I would look quite good but who cares, I dint want to look good, I was fine the way I was.
"Maybe." She shrugged and looked out of the window again, her hair blew with the wind once again and I couldn't take my eyes off her. How many times did I day that? Well because it kept on happening every few minutes.
After a silent drive of about five minutes, I finally arrived at her house, it wasn't really a house, it was a huge white mansion
The whole area was kind of Posh, only rich people lived here and they all had huge mansions, the one Khushi lived in was the biggest one in the area and it was beautiful from the outside, I believed it was even better on the inside.
Once I parked the car aside, she stepped out and shut the door, she bent to the window and looked at me.
"If you think I'm going to thank you for driving me home, it's not happening, this was your fault so it was your duty to drop me home, now get lost." She said, remember me saying she was mean at times, well yeah this was just a glimpse of her being mean.
I looked at her as she walked towards the gate and suddenly a guy came from nowhere, he called out her name and she stopped, he walked closer and stopped in front of her.
I reversed my car to leave because I wasn't really a nosey person, I dint want to know who the guy was or anything, so I turned my car around and drove off but before I drove out of her sight, I looked at her through the side mirror.
She and the guy were sharing a kiss, wow she just broke up and she was already with someone else, I wasn't really judging her or anything, but it was just weird, but hey, she was Khushi, guys were always waiting for her to break up so they could get a chance with her.

"I'm never talking to you if you haven't got my books." My little sister said as she rushed towards me as soon as I walked inside our small house.
It wasn't really that small, it was a sort of a cottage, not huge not too small, it consisted of three bedrooms, a hall and a kitchen and it was enough for us, dad had his own room and Anju and I had our own rooms.
"I did, I don't want an early death." I laughed as I showed her the bag, she grabbed it from me happily like she had just won a jackpot, she was kind of a bookworm, she loved reading just as much as I did but then she dint look like a nerd like me.
My sister was beautiful, I could say that considering the guys that were always roaming around her trying to take her for dates and stuff but she always kept rejecting them, I knew exactly why she did that though.
"Thank you, you're the best brother ever." She hugged me happily and then turned to go back to her room so she could start reading the books.
"Anju, did you take your medicines?" I asked, she stopped and turned around to look at me making a really cute face, I knew what came when she made such kind of faces, this girl would never do anything she's been told to.
"I am sorry I forgot." She pouted and blinked her eyes cutely.
"When will you ever be serious about your health, you can't even take your medicines on time." I said as I dropped everything on the sofa, I held her hand and pulled her along to her room, I grabbed her tablets from the drawer and handed them to her as I poured a glass of water from the jug, she gulped down the medicine and looked at me.
"Don't be so worried about me, you'll cry when I die." She laughed jokingly.
"I told you not to talk about dying Anju." I warned her as my eyes became moist, even the thought of losing her scared the hell out of me.
"Well the doctors did say they weren't sure if I could be saved, I've accepted the fact that I'm going to die soon, it's high time you accept it too." She said, I mean she was so casual about it as if it wasn't a big deal, how could it not be a big deal?
"You know, I don't even want to talk to you." I said as I rushed out of the room trying to hide the tears that were falling off my eyes.
A year ago, she was diagnosed with a heart condition and since then she's been on medication, the doctors said she might not be able to survive it, she accepted it so easily but I hadn't been able to accept it until today.
Every day I live with the fear that today is going to be the last day I'll be seeing her but then every day I pray for a miracle to happen, the doctors did say there were chances of her surviving it but they were very thin so I just keep on hoping and praying that a miracle would happen.
That maybe one day I'll wake up and my sister will be completely fine and I wouldn't have to live with the fear that I was going to lose her.
She was the only person I had in life that was so close to me after mom, dad was depressed after mom passed away and he was always too drunk to care about his sick daughter not knowing he might lose her too one day.
Let's just say that it was a miracle that he still had his job, maybe he just came home drunk but was okay at work, gladly I had a fully paid scholarship so I dint have to worry about my fees, and whatever he earned was enough to get us through living, I dint really know what was up with him anyway and honestly I had stopped caring.
All I ever cared about was Anju and I really hoped that one day she was going to be fine and she wasn't going to leave me alone like mom did. I dint think I was going to be able to survive that pain if she left me.
