Chapter Eleven

"So you and Mouse finally hooked up?" Anna said with a satisfied smile leaning on Gina's desk.

"How did you know?"

"It was either him or your secret admirer. My money was on Mouse. You're absolutely glowing!" Anna said with a laugh.

"I am not!" Gina said grabbing a compact out of her purse and looking. "I guess I am," she said with a laugh.

"So details."

"It was incredible. I mean, he just came over like he always does. We exchanged presents. We joked around like always. And then all of a sudden we were kissing."

"You kissed who first?"

"Uh, he did."

"Coward."

"And he asked if I was ok with it."

"He did? How sweet."

"He said he didn't want to ruin our friendship," Gina said with a smile. "While he was kissing my neck making my knees turn to jello. How could I resist?"

"You couldn't."

"He had to leave me to go to the Bahamas."

"Bastard."

"Yeah. I won't see him 'til after Christmas. That's ok. I can wait. I'm an adult," Gina said with a sigh and a pout.

"So what'd he get you?"

"What?"

"What was your Christmas present? Besides a satisfied smile on your face."

"I don't know I didn't open it."

"Why not?!"

"Because he said to wait until Christmas."

"And you listened?"

"Yes. I'm not like you."

"Unfortunately."

Gina was happier than she'd ever been. She had a sort of boyfriend. One that was currently on a plane from the Bahamas and heading to Denver and not with her but she had him. Sort of. Nothing official had been said. But they would talk. When they were back. And now she was surrounded by her vast family. Her sister and two brothers. Her nieces and nephews and her parents. Christmas was a flurry of presents being opened and the wrapping being tossed around.

"Oh, Gina, there's another one more here for you," her mother said reaching under the mess under the tree.

"I was saving it for later," Gina said taking it quickly from her.

"Who's it from?" Her mother asked curiously looking at her.

"My...friend. Mouse."

"Oh, it was a shame he couldn't join us. I would have liked to have met him. He's sounds really nice."

"I told you he had to work," Gina said slowly pulling back the paper.

"You sure he's just a friend? Not telling me something?"

Gina blushed.

"I thought so."

"We sort of hooked up right before he left. We haven't really talked about it," Gina said opening the box with Mickey Mouse ears all over it.

Gina pulled out a stuffed animal yellow cat with a Santa hat.

"That's...cute," her mother said.

"I guess. Mouse. Cat," Gina said with a shrug.

"Nice sense of humor at least," her mother said.

"Oh, there's something else," Gina said pulling a large square and flat box out of the box from beneath the tissue paper. There was also an envelope.

Gina opened the small box and gasped. It was a beautiful ruby and diamond necklace.

"Gina," her mother gasped looking at it. "That must have cost a fortune!"

Gina tore open the envelope.

"Thought it'd look great with your red dress. Merry Christmas. Love, Mouse."

"I can't believe him! I feel so stupid! All I got him was James Bond DVDs."

"I'm sure he appreciates them. Men like those movies," her mother said.

"Mom, how much do you think he spent? God, this is incredible."

"It's not the cost that matters, honey," her mother said shaking her head.

"A lot, huh."

"I really don't know but it looks expensive. Just how serious are you two?"

"I don't know," Gina said touching the jewels lightly.

"He's obviously very serious about you. Maybe you want to make up your mind."

"I better call him," Gina said getting up.

"Yeah?" was the answer on the other end of the line.

"Hi," Gina said.

"Hey you, Merry Christmas."

"You too. Thanks for the necklace. It's beautiful. But, Mouse, you really shouldn't have. It must have cost you so much."

"Don't worry about that. I wanted to get it for you."

"You must have....I mean, you got that before...before we..."

"Yeah."

A tear slid down Gina's cheek.

"You there?" He asked.

"Yeah," she said sniffing.

"You okay?"

"Yeah."

"I'm sorry, Gina. God, I can't really talk now. I'm about to board the plane. They're going to make me hang up. Can I call you later?"

"Ok."

"I'll call you later ok, beautiful? I promise."

"Hey, Gina," Wolf said opening the door New Years eve.

"Hey, wow, it's packed in here!"

"Always is. Welcome. Mouse and Anna are around here somewhere."

"I'll find them. Thanks."

"Hey, beautiful," Mouse said grabbing her when she walked in. He pulled her into a long slow passionate kiss.

"Get a room," Wolf said walking past them.

"Gladly," Mouse said pulling her towards the bedrooms.

"I didn't mean here. Go get something to drink. And stay away from the punch," Wolf warned them.

"Okay," Mouse said kissing Gina on the neck. "I missed you," he said hugging her.

"Missed you too," she said turning to look at him.

"I thought I dreamt it."

"Then I must be dreaming too," she said leaning up to kiss him.

"Gina, you look as beautiful as ever," Corbin said approaching them.

"Thank you," Gina said blushing.

"Can I steal him away from you for a couple minutes? Business talk."

"Sure. I'll go find Anna."

"I think I saw her in the kitchen."

"Thanks," Gina said and gave Mouse a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Hey," Anna said hugging her. "You look fabulous. And god! Is that the necklace?!"

"Yeah," Gina said touching it lightly self-consciously.

"What are you two gushing over?" Doyle asked pouring a drink.

"Mouse gave Gina this beautiful necklace for Christmas."

Doyle looked over at it. He shook his head. "He always had good taste."
