The class proceeds to be just an overview of what they, as a pack, will be working on in order to be stronger. I stayed in the back majority of the time; arms crossed, eyes bored, sweeping the room.
I often found Damian's eyes on me, in response I'd ignore the soaring butterflies in my stomach, and simply raise an eyebrow in question. He'd roll his eyes and move on, making my lips quirk up into a smirk.
Now at 2:35, the bell rings releasing us from school. I walk to the bleachers where I had dropped my bag off. On my way I look around to see the pack members smiling towards me in friendly greetings. I frown slightly confused, my nose scrunching up, as I grab my bag and slip it over my shoulder.
"Enania!" I hear a female voice call out. I bite my lip, turning to face Coral. She sends me a nervous smile. "Hey, do you wanna maybe hang out?" She asks, her hands wringing together. She was nervous of me; hmm. I open my mouth to politely decline when another voice speaks up.
"No fair. We were gonna ask her to come play video games with us." Tommy says walking up casually, hands in his pockets. Besides him is Ryan who smiles at me, being a lot less hostile after the beginning of class. My head jerks over as I see movement behind Coral. A small smile crosses her face as Connor slips his arms around her waist. He leans down and placed a kiss on top of her head.
"I have a solution. She can hang out with all of us. It's not like you were gonna actually hang out at your houses." Connor says rolling his eyes, flashing me a smile. I nod back, keeping my face mostly neutral, but I know a little bit of amusement is there. "We all know you were gonna crash at the Pack House." Connor states mater of factly.
The three look at each other sheepishly before shrugging. "So what d'ya say Enania?" Coral asks, her eyes hopeful. "I really need a girl friend." She says slightly exasperated at her friends. I crack a smile at that eyes looking between them before opening my mouth to say sure, but once again I was interrupted by a deep sexy annoying voice.
"Or," Damian says stepping next to me and draping his arm over my shoulders. Sparks erupt at his touch, making me scowl slightly that I liked them. "I can hangout with my mate without you guys." He sends me a wink, which makes my scowl deepen. I roll my eyes and shove him off me, and turning to Coral.
"I'd love to hangout with you guys. But, I was thinking more of you guys teaching me about our species." I say adjusting my bag. "Then we can play video games," I jerk my chin towards Ryan and Tommy.
"Yeah! That sounds great!" Coral says, her smile stretching across her face. Her and the boys look to Damian smugly, Tommy actually stuck his tongue out. I laugh before slapping my hand over my mouth as Damian snaps his head to the side to look at me. Instead of embarrassed anger I see awe, and amusement when he looks at me with those mesmerizing eyes-
No. Those stupid eyes. Stupid Grey perfect eyes.
"You're welcome to join us Alpha." I say breezily as I start to back up eyes hiding my attraction but showing my amusement. The four start laughing, sending teasing looks towards Damian whose eyes never leave mine.
"Sure," he says blinking out of his state of infatuation. "I'll grant you guys the gift of my presence." He shoots back, eyes shining.
I spin on my heel, grinning from ear to ear as these people began to slowly work their way into my heart.
— — —
I follow the black Jeep that turned out to belong to Damian, with Connor and Coral behind me in a huge red truck, and behind them Ryan and Tommy in a smaller silver muscle car. We reach the gate that would lead to their little community, pack, neighborhood, or whatever the hell they called it.
We all drive up the winding dirt road that eventually turned to pavement, and lead to a small little town like area. Small shops, bakeries, and retro clothing stores. This makes me grin, as we slowly drive through, making sure to avoid hitting any kid and their family. A couple minutes go by and we reach the neighborhoods. The houses range from cute white picket fences, to huge houses.
All of that is nice and all, but as we continue I see a rise of a hill and right on top stands a huge mansion. Another gate stands in the way of the driveway. Damian scans something and it opens, allowing all of us through.
I'm in complete awe as I look up through the windows in Mrs. Pots little bug. She had agreed to me coming here only because he trusted her daughter to protect me. I still am not sure if she knows what and who these people were, but I think there's a chance because of the fact her daughter Makenna is, as I recently found out, married to the Pack's third in command.
I pull the car over to the side while everyone else parks in the garage. I climb out of the car eyes still wide as I take a minute to take everything in.
In the middle of the drive way is a gorgeous old statue of two wolves. The male's head resting gently over the female's head as he watches over what I assume to be their land. The female looks content as she stands vigil.
"My great great great grandparents." A voice I've come to recognize all too quickly, says softly behind me. I turn around to face him, eyes meeting his. Subconsciously I'm aware that everyone else has left to go inside so that it is just Damian and I.
"They seem strong." I say in comment, brown eyes meeting his silver blue ones. They seem to read right through me; see every emotion I try so hard to forget.
"They were. They conquered this land from dangerous rogues years ago, saving a lot of innocent humans." I could hear the admiration for his grandparents in his voice. This makes me smile a little, before I turn away from him and grab my bag, making my way towards the front door.
"Enania," He starts, making me stop and turn to look at him.
"Yeah?" I question, hip cocked slightly.
"Can I ask what you know about mates?" He asks, eyes scanning over my face, searching for answers.
"Not much. I know my parents were mates, I know every wolf has one, and that's about it." At the mention of my parents I look past his shoulder seeing flashes of the golden blonde hair and blue eyes of my mother dancing with my brown haired brown eyed father. Their mouths stretched in happiness, as Jude and I giggle, twirling around them.
I quickly shake my head, and look back to Damian who had a curious look on his face, as if he was trying to figure out what I was thinking about. I send him a shaky smile before jerking my head to the side motioning towards the front door.
"You can explain it in there along with other wolf things." I say quietly before walking to the front door. I hear his quiet footsteps behind me as I reach the door. I open the door and step inside, turning to look over my shoulder making sure Damian was still behind me.
He smiles walking up next to me closing the door. His hands are in his pockets as he takes the lead to take me where his friends are. We walk past a few adults who freeze to stare at me with confusion; eyes flashing between Damian and I. I lift my head and meet the eyes who lock with my own before they turn away.
Damian places his right hand on my lower back guiding me through the huge manor. We walk up a flight of stairs, then another before turning left and going into a room with a huge floor to ceiling TV, bean bags, kitchenette, pool table, foosball, and old arcade games.
"Wow," I breathe out, alerting the four already in there that Damian and I have arrived. Damian and I make our way in. He makes his way and plops onto the couch. I drop my bag next to the door and walk over making my way to sit on a dark purple beanbag. Before I can plop down, Damian snatches his arms around my waist and tugs me to him. I gasp as I fall into his lap. The four sets of eyes all look over with knowing grins. I scowl, elbowing Damian in the ribs. He lets out a oomph, arms loosening as I scoot off of him to the other side of the couch.
"Nice try Alpha." I say, wiggling my eyebrows. He rolls his eyes, rubbing his ribs before leaning over to snatch my feet and place them on his lap. I feel the gentle sparks from his soft touches as he begins to draw designs on my calfs, before sliding off my converse and giving my small feet a massage. I shrug, not turning down a foot rub. "So you guys are sure Mrs. Pots doesn't care I'm here?" I ask eyes scanning the crowd. Tommy and Ryan nod, stuffing their faces with chips and soda, while Coral and Connor snuggle together on a larger beanbag.
"Yep. You're good to stay, even for dinner." Coral says smiling brightly at me. I frown though, not wanting to leave Mrs. Pots alone.
"I'll probably head back for dinner. I don't wanna leave her alone." I say eyes leaving Coral's to meet Damian's. He pouts slightly, hands continuing to gently massage my legs.
"Don't worry about that," Coral says smiling still. "She's coming over for dinner too." I raise an eyebrow.
"How? I have the car." My eyebrows furrow together.
"Makenna will go pick her up." Connor says lifting his head away from Coral's neck.
"Oh. Okay." I reach up, taking my hair out of the pony tail; my long brown hair falls down in loose curls around my shoulder.
"So," Tommy says, putting his bag of chips down. "What can we tell you about ourselves?" He tilts his head, wiping the crumbs off his hands on his navy blue T-shirt.
"Well," I start taking a deep breath. "I was taken away from Pack life when I was four." I don't mention Jude, even as my hand goes to fiddle with his hand made bracelet. "So I can't remember much. What I know now I've been looking it up on the internet, books, and such, to compare to what I remember and what I can do." I tell them, meeting all their gazes.
"So you know we shift when we turn ten?" Coral asks, hands running through Connor's hair.
"Yeah. I know there is an Alpha and his mate can be considered Alpha Female or a Luna." I say looking down at Damian as his hands now just trail lightly over my legs.
"The mate of the alpha is like the mother of the pack, a Luna. An Alpha Female is a female born with Alpha blood." Connor explains breezily. "Which you have." This makes me pause, eyes narrowing.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Nia." Damian says, using a nickname I haven't heard in years. "What do you remember of your pack?"
"I- I don't know." I frown closing my eyes trying to remember what I could. "I remember we were big. Lots of warriors..."
"What about the name?" Damian asks again. He gently grabs underneath my knees and pulls me closer so that I'm almost on his lap again.
"I can't remember." I say defeated.
"It's okay." He says quietly. "Nia, you were a part of a very powerful pack by the name of Fenbella Moon. Your father,"
"Kenneth Fenbella." I finish for him eyes never leaving his silver blue ones.
"Yes. Kenneth Fenbella, was a direct descendent of one of the first Alpha families." I sigh at his words running my hands through my hair.
"So, I'm an Alpha Female?" I ask out loud.
"Yes. You're also technically a Luna," Ryan speaks up for the first time. He jerks his head to Damian who was now holding me to him.
"You're an Alpha Female and a Luna." Coral confirms.
"Okay okay, wait one second." I groan. "What exactly is a mate?"
"A soul mate. Someone the Moon Goddess pairs you with. Everyone has one, wolves are just able to recognize their soul mate easier." Tommy says stretching his legs out. "Mates are a big deal here. You find them, you mate, and marry, yada yada." He waves his hands out in the air. My eyes widen as I look to Damian who wiggles his eyebrows at me. I scoff and scoot away from him back to my side, tucking my legs underneath myself.
"Now, a big question I've been wondering." I say settling down, breathing easily. "What do we call ourselves? Like werewolves? Shifters? What?"
"Lycanthrope is the technical term, but mainly we've changed with the times to werewolves." Ryan says smiling at me. I nod in thanks for the explanation.
"Now, am I a part of this pack? Still a rogue? What?"
"Well technically you're still a Fenbella Moon pack member." Damian says while turning to face me. "But you can join this pack, if you'd be willing to give up Fenbella Moon." Damian offers. I immediately shake my head no.
"If that's my pack, then it's my pack." I say sternly. "What's left of it?"
"That's the thing Nia," Damian says sadly. "Until you, we all thought they were wiped out completely." My heart thunders hearing his words.
"No one survived?" I whisper.
"No, only you." Damian says just as quietly.
"I'm the last Fenbella Moon Pack member..." I say quietly to myself. "I- I think that's enough for today." I whisper shakily. I think I knew that that's how it ended, but a part of me hoped that I'd be able to go home. I blink back tears, my hand gripping Jude's bracelet tightly, with shaking hands. "How about some games?"
Damian's POV
I watch her shakily grab onto a green and blue friendship bracelet with what looked to be a death grip. My heart breaks seeing her shakily change the subject. I can't even imagine my pack being take away and killed from me. Let alone while I was defenseless and had to watch.
Before I can say anything to help her she shoves on a mask, eyes blanking and a smirk quirking up her lips. And slowly, she starts to relax again, playing video games, laughing and cracking jokes with everyone.
I can't help but join, and after an hour of just having fun and laughing with everyone I notice her slowly inching closer to me. She was seeking my warmth, my comfort. She was seeking her mate, so I snake my arms out and around her waist tugging her towards me once more. This time she stays, placing her head on my shoulder, hands playing with my larger fingers.
"Are you okay?" I whisper into her ear so only she can hear.
"I think so. You help me for some ungodly reason." She says seriously and jokingly all at once.
"It's because I'm your mate." I rub my nose gently against the top of her head smiling as she relaxes into me.
"Hey, just because I'm letting you hold me and we're mates doesn't mean anything." She says stubbornly. "You still have to actually try just like any other guy would." I growl softly at the mention of other men.
"Trust me. I'll win your heart, and then no other guy can even think of having you." I say into her ear, breath tickling her neck.
"Mmhmm. What ever you say Alpha." She laughs as I grin, secretly loving her calling me Alpha, secretly already falling in love with this girl that I've only just met.
