Chapter 4: Alpha's Orders

•Yeah, I'm used to being the new kid.•

I breathe out a sigh of relief seeing the room number 100. I open the door, well aware of the fact that the bell rang three minutes ago. My eyes scan the room, landing on the teacher who's mouth was stopped open. He turns his balding head towards me lowering his book eyes scowling at the interruption.
"And you might be?" I can hear the old smokers voice. I roll my eyes at the greasy man in front of me.
"Enania Fenbella." I state easily, though I do tense up when I hear a gasp in the back. My head snaps left, eyes narrowing in on a girl with black hair, and wide green eyes. The teacher, who introduced himself as Mr. Voghan, directs me to a seat on the other side of the classroom from miss Wide Eyes.
As I walk I take in a deep breath, eyes widening as I smell something off about at least three people in here. I sit down, eyes scanning each and every person for signs of anything that would say they weren't human. When I get to the girl's corner I see three of their gazes blanking out.
I watch them throughout the class determining they were the ones that smelled were off. Now that I think about it, half of this school smelled weird. Not everyone was human. This means my suspicions were right; I'm not the only supernatural being.
I figured if I was a werewolf, shifter, lycanthrope, whatever you want to call it, then there should, in theory, be other species. Now, these people could be werewolves but I don't know enough about them yet. I sigh placing my head in my hands waiting for the bell to ring.
As I wait I make my hearing tune into their conversation, wanting to know what they were murmuring about.
"Whatever she is, we aren't supposed to touch her. Alpha's orders, and I would recommend you listen." The girl says to the other two boys.
"But Coral-" The boy is cut off.
"No buts Ryan, she's right." The second one says his eyes flicking over to me. I don't jerk away but lazily have my eyes trail over them and on to other parts of the classroom as if taking in the room.
"See Tommy agrees with me." The girl, Coral, says grinning from ear to ear.
"You guys are dumb." Ryan glowers, his head lowering making his dirty blonde hair shine in the sunlight streaming from the windows.
"Um no, we're smart and listen to Alpha's orders." Coral retorts. I notice the light brown hair guy, Tommy, slump back into his seat eyes rolled to the ceiling. Growing bored I lean back, losing focus on their conversation as they begin to just bicker.
Alpha, term for leader in wolf packs. Where there is an alpha there should be a Beta, third in command, and you know minor detail but a freaking pack.
I was in pack land; this is the first time I've even seen another like me since, since the attack. My jaw clenched right as the bell rings. I spring up from my seat and make it out of the door in record time. I hear a girl call my name, so I look over to see Coral's black head of hair shove through the parting crowd as she tries and get to me.
I roll my eyes and speed up, pulling out my schedule to see my next period. Calculus with Mrs. Jacobe in room 103. I walk in eyes finding the woman in charge. She looks at me with raised eyebrows, subtly trying to take a smell of me.
Werewolf. The teacher?? There are so many, how the hell did I not notice? It was probably that stupid boy I saw this morning, distracting me like a bîtch.
I take a deep breath quietly introducing myself and go to sit in the back. I tap my thigh, bitting my bottom lip as my eyes lose their focus thinking of what could happen if they knew I was one of them. Would they be angry? Worried? Threatened?
I groan dropping my forehead to my desk mumbling profanities to myself before I hear other students enter the class. Sure enough, I shut my mouth, fix it with a smirk, and sit straight up, legs stretching out in front of me. That's when I see Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum walk in. Their brown eyes lock in on me as they make their way towards me.
Ryan sits in front of me, turning in his seat to watch me. Tommy sits in the seat next to my own, making me swivel my head from side to side.
"Can I help you two?" I ask in a bored tone, while they continue to stare. That's when I get a little bit angry. "Yo!" I snap my fingers, making them jump. "Take a freaking picture it lasts longer." I grumble, glaring at the two.
"Ignoring Coral was rude." Ryan says, his eyes narrowing on me.
"Talking about me is ruder." I snap back, making them widen their eyes.
"How did you-" Tommy begins looking between me and Ryan.
"It's easy to put the dots together when all three of you kept glancing at me before whispering again." The lie rolls smoothly off my tongue as I meet both their gazes. When the bell rings I snap my mouth closed, refusing to acknowledge either of them even as they try to get me to.
The hour of torture finally passes with a loud shrill bell, making me jump up and make a move to leave. They both grab my arms, causing me to freeze, eyes narrowing to slits as I look to my sides.
"I swear to God, if you don't let me go right now, I will break every bone in your body." I feel my inner wolf rise to the surface making me grit my teeth trying to control my more wilder self. They both seem to cower away, exposing their necks.
Submission.
All three of us look at each other confused; why would two stranger wolves submit to, well, technically a rogue. I snap out of my confusion and get the hell out of there. Not before hearing them call my name.
Just gotta get to World Geo in 115. C'mon, c'mon.
I get there quickly skidding in, not out of breathe but nervous making me take deep breaths of air. Eyes finding the teacher. I give a little wave while taking a deep breath. Human.
"Enania." I murmur softly in greeting before going to sit in a desk in back. As students trickle in I let out a relieved sigh, seeing no wol-
Damnit. Spoke too soon. Coral runs into the room blowing hair out of her face as she looks sheepishly towards Mrs. Kellson when the bell rings. "Hi." She squeaks before turning and weaving her way towards the back. Probably feeling my gaze on her she raises her gaze to meet mine, her eyes widen before she changes course to sit in front of me.
I narrow in on her back, glaring daggers at the stranger who seems to keep ticking me off. Luckily Coral seems interested in the lesson and begins taking notes. I simply study her, fingers tapping against my thigh in rhythmic patterns.
Mrs. Kellson stops her lesson smiling at us. "Okay time for a project. I want you to pick a partner and research a dictator that rose to power. See what he did, how he appealed to the people. Fear, promises, money? Try to find out why, use your own opinion along with professional evidence." Her eyed scan the crowd before landing on me. "For this partner project you'll be writing an essay and producing a propaganda poster your chosen leader might've used." Eyes still on me she smiles kindly. "Now we have a new student who might not have many friends in this class," I almost face palm at the amount of embarrassment she would've caused someone who actually cared. "Do I have any volun-" before she can finish the word Coral's hand shoots up.
"I- uh. I'll do it." She says clearing her throat before looking over her shoulder to send me a nervous smile.
"Great!" Mrs. Kellson grins at us two. "Now you have ten minutes left. I recommend you pick a leader." She then turns to her desk to sit down while the class erupts with conversation.
"So, I'm Coral." The black haired girl says looking at me, as she had turned around to face me.
"I'm Enania." I say simply, eyes cautiously scanning her face looking for anything sinister. Fortunately I only see genuine curiosity.
"Where'd you move from? I mean, I know you're with Mrs. Pots and a foster kid and-" she stops seeing my raised eyebrows before snapping her hands over her mouth. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. That probably sounded so insensitive! I didn't- just-" I can't help but laugh slightly at her blabbering.
"It's okay. You only stated a fact." I sit up folding my hands together and placing my elbows on the table while lowering my chin onto my criss crossed fingers. "Moved from Madison, Wisconsin. And I'm thinking Hitler or Stalin." Seven minutes later we were having a full blown argument over how Hitler came to power. She insisted he used the power of the Nazi party to scare people, I insisted that he used his promises and lies to get voted into power.
"Okay okay, good debate now we just need to write all that down." She jokes lightly making me smile. Despite my cautious side I liked Coral; she was shy but had a passionate fire behind those timid eyes.
"Hey Enania," She asks, her smile dimming down a bit. "Do you know what we ar-" the bell rings making me thank all things holy that I couldn't answer.
"Sorry! Got to go. Talk to you later." I hop up, before running towards the door. I hear her sigh, running her hands through her hair before gathering her own things to leave and go to her next class.
Mr. Houghs, study hall in room 123. I wonder what wolf I'll be dealing with next. As I walk in I sit up towards the front as students come in and fill up I see Coral walking in, laughing with a guy. They hold hands looking adoringly towards each other.
They both stop when they take a deep breath, eyes zeroing in on me. I give them a two fingered salute before going back to working on researching Hitler and his rise to power. I know they're talking, I can hear their murmurs but for the whole period I ignore their slightly argumentative conversation.
When the bell rings I stand up getting ready to go to lunch when there is a tap on my shoulder. I turn to face Coral, her hand laced with the guy's, his name turned out to be Connor, who was glaring at me suspiciously. I send him a glare right back before looking at Coral, who sadly they both towered over my 5'1" frame.
"Wanna sit with us at lunch?" She offers, her smile genuine. This makes me almost smile, before I realize they could try and corner me. I send her a small grin.
"Thanks but I'll pass." With that I walk out of the room.
For the rest of lunch I sit in the library browsing books and reading a few chapters before putting them away. The hour lunch is over and I make my way to 137, music with Mrs. Larson. That was a peaceful class, no Coral, Connor, Tommy, or Ryan. Just humans.
Relaxing.
But turns out 6th Period was gonna be a hell of a time.
Damian's POV
When I got the mind link first period that my mate was with Coral, Tommy, and Ryan I was shocked. They were all Juniors but she looked like a senior.
What shocked me more was that she had the same surname of a powerful pack that disappeared years ago. Fenbella Moon; a feared and dangerous pack thought to be taken out by a powerful rogue force until signs of magic were thought to have interfered.
When the Council of Supernatural beings released this news packs everywhere were outraged. Witches and Sorcerers everywhere were accused until finally the blame had been pinned on a very powerful man, who conveniently disappeared.
Even with the last name, she couldn't be that. We would have recognized her scent as wolf. At least that's what I thought until boom. Coral, Connor, Tommy, and Ryan all smelled undertones of wolf. They seemed to be hidden under years of living with humans all over the place; which makes sense considering Enania was a foster child.
I sigh running my hands through my hair, before looking at my roster for my sixth and final period. They should all be my pack, but as my eyes scan I see a name that pops out. Enania Fenbella. At first I'm angry, that is until I realize this could be our time to question her and most importantly my time to officially meet her. For fûcks sakes everyone else has.
I watch the door as my pack trickles in all smiling and greeting each other. Coral and Connor walk in, holding hands, with Tommy and Ryan behind the pair. They walk over to me saying their hellos.
"Hey, all of the pack is here." Connor reports. I nods eyes still glued to the door. When it opens everyone stills, turning to look as Enania steps in, her whole demeanor looking bored. That is until she takes a deep breath and looks around. Her brown eyes widen, mouth parting those soft pink lips before they turn into a wry smirk. Her next words make me crack a smile.
"Well shit."
