Agent B's point of view
I walked into a gym, immediately going for the boxing gloves. I put them on and went towards the leather bag, swinging all my weight into it.
It swayed, left to right, back and forth. The other guys were busy with their own exercises, or maybe they were sitting around on their phones, I didn't know. I didn't care.
I repeatedly hit the bag, painful memories filling my head with each blow towards the bag.
-
"Agent." My teammate said as I stalled, staring at the man infront of me. "Hit him."
"But-" I glanced at the petrified children being held by their mother. A thich, beige rope binded them all together and duct tape covered their mouths.
"This is what we are trained to do B, hit him and get out the answers. It's how we must do this." She told me and I looked at the man hanging from the garage ceiling.
"I promise, I know nothing." He said and I pulled my fist back, my arm shaking a bit with unease because children were watching. His own children were about to watch their father get beaten.
I closed my eyes and landed the blow by his ribcage, hearing the family scream and beg and the man grunt in pain. "Where are they hiding?" I asked but he refused to give us the answer my teammate wished to have.
"I-I don't-"
"Again." My teammate said and I hesitantly pulled my fist back, hitting him in the stomach. I turned away from his family, unable to see the kids cry. His wife I didn't mind, but the kids, under ten years old, I could not stand to see.
"Are you going to tell us where they are?" My teammate yelled and the man repeated his answer, he didn't know.
"Maybe he doesn't-"
"Again." My teammate demanded and looked around the garage for something. I hit him again, as hard as I could and the man coughed. "Tell us or your wife is next."
"No, please no." He begged and I squeezed my eyes shut. I couldn't hurt his wife, she has done nothing. She and the kids were blackmail, not enemies themselves.
"Agent B-"
"A-Again, yeah, I know." I said and pulled my fist back. My teammate stopped me before I could and I looked at her.
"Use it. He'll spit the answer out even if a few bones come out with it." She said, a large wooden baseball bat in her hands. "Well?"
I hesitantly took the weapon and looked at the wife, who's eyes sere puffy and red. I shook my head and held the bat up high before swinging it.
Blood spit from his cough and I closed my eyes, blood landing on my face. "I-I d-do-on-"
"Agent B, you know what to do."
Fuck.
-
"Woah there tiger," Calum said and he set his hands on my arms. "Don't break the bag." He said and I looked at him.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled, somehow feeling the need to apologize for my behavior.
"What are you doing Calum?"
"Talking, fuck off Luke." Calum yelled back and I took a deep breath. "Are you okay?" He asked me and I nodded.
"I'm fine." I lied. I felt like I was suffocating on my own memories and drowning in all the blood I've spilt from others.
"You don't seem fine." He said and and shook my head. "Do you want to rest? We have security guarding the area, even a few officers around, we'll be fine." He told me.
"I'm not worried about-" I stopped myself before I could say something hurtful to him and then shook my head. "Nevermind. I'm fine. Go back to wherever you came from."
"I don't think my mum would appreciate that." He said and laughed, not getting the same reaction from me "You're not that bad, honestly. I don't see why the guys hate you."
"Everyone hates me, I hate me." I said and turned towards the bag. I landed a punch on it and he sighed.
"Don't say that-"
"Why not?" I snapped him and he seemed a bit shocked out my outburst. "If you were me, you'd hate yourself too." I said and he was silent.
"I'd change-"
"You can't change Calum, I can't change." I told him. "I was made into this monster; I was made to fit this job okay? I can't do anything else but sit here and kill people who have supposedly done wrong."
"It's gonna be okay Agent-" He said and set a hand on my shoulder. I shook my head and threw the boxing gloves on the floor.
"You tell me that," I said and looked him right into the eyes. "You tell me it's gonna be okay but what you don't realize is that I have no faith and not the slightest ounce of belief in happy endings so you're wasting your breath." I told him and he looked at me.
"Agent B," he said and then stopped. "Can you just tell me your name? I can't have a heart to heart whilst referring to you as Agent."
"I don't have a heart-"
"Then tell me what the fuck this is." He said, taking my two of my fingers and pressing them against my wrist. I felt my pulse and then ripped my hand from his. "What is that if you don't have a heart?"
"It's called emptiness because for the past sixteen years all I've done is seen people die, by my hand or by others and god dammit Calum, it's empty in here and it will always be empty." I said and his band mates rushed over, immediately trying to pull him away from me.
"Let go of me." He's snapped at Luke and Ashton. "Look at me-"
"Just go." I said and turned towards the bag again. "Leave me alone." I said and held my bare fists up, punching the leather bag again and again.
"Ag-"
"Leave me alone." I practically bellowed at the boy, unable to continue talking to him about this. I took a deep breath and looked at the floor. "Please." I added, my tone taking a drastic change.
"Fine." He said and I waited a few minutes before going back to the punching bag, releasing my frustrations and my anger out on the piece of equipment.
-
"Should have worn gloves." Michael snorted as I iced my bruised knuckled. I paid no attention to him as I sat at the dining room table.
My phone rang and I picked it up with my opposite hand. "Agent B, speak now or end the call." I said and looked down at the wooden table.
"B? It's Agent V, I've been reported to digging information up for you. I found something useful." She said and I clenched my jaw.
"When did this happen?"
"When boss got a report from the manager that the boys did not wish for you to be there. To lighten the load on your shoulders, I was told to look up information for you and report what I have." She said.
"Very well; what have you got?" I asked and held the phone with my opposite hand.
"Analeigh Reed has a fiancé and is currently hiding away in a building at New South Wales. I am unable to pinpoint direct locations, but the general area should be enough for the moment." She said and I was silent.
"Past acquaintances and close friends are María Guadeloupe, William Irwin, Agent S, and Daniel Salvador." She spoke and I furrowed my eyebrows together.
"I want locations on where I may find these people and so god help me Agent V, if I do not get them, it is your rank that's falling not mine." I said and she speedily said she was on it.
"Three are deceased, Agent S, William Irwin, and María Guadeloupe." She spoke and I interrupted.
"Deceased or not, I want you to email me all the information you have on them and get back to me when you are done. Are we clear on instructions?" I asked.
"Crystal."
"Very well. Until next time Agent V." I said and then ended the call. I set my phone down and then rubbed my temples a bit.
"Want some coffee?"
"Sit down Calum." I said and I heard him pull out a chair. "Savanna, she was an agent, yes?" I asked and looked at him. He nodded, but he looked confused as to why is was asking.
"She died, am I correct?" He nodded once again and I folded my arms across my chest. "Did she ever tell you about friends she has or friends she hangs out with?"
"No names if that's what you want." He told me and I nodded. "She said she traveled a lot and hung out with some friends when she wasn't on missions and stuff."
"Go get that picture." I said and pointed to the one on the wall. He nodded and stood up, grabbing the frame and then walking back with it. "This is Savanna, correct?"
"Yes." He said and I looked at the man on the couch, pointing at him. "That is Ashton's father. He died the day Savanna did. They died protecting us." He told me.
"What is his name? Who was he? What did he do?" I asked, trying to get general information on him.
"His name was William Irwin, but we called him Will. He... He was a bad man at first, tried to kill Savanna a few times, but then he sided with us because Ashton's his son. Family over all right?" He said.
"Wrong." I said simply. "It said in Ashton's filed that his parents divorced-"
"Yeah, Ash didn't know his dad until the day he came by and Savanna tied him up because she didn't trust him." He explained explained and I nodded.
"Do you know why a mutual friend of the two would go after you?" I asked him and he scratched the back of his head.
"Besides for the fact they gave their lives up for us, I have no clue." He told me and I nodded, taking that as an answer.
"Do you know what company Savanna worked for?" I asked and he pulled his phone out.
"I don't have the name but I have her boss's number because he checks in with us from time to time to make sure we're fine." He told me and I nodded.
"Maybe I have the number?"
He showed me his phone and I turned my own on. I dialed the number and he put it away after I put my phone against my ear.
"Name and reason of calling." A woman asked and I looked at Calum.
"Agent B of the AEA, I'm calling to speak to a Mr. Devin." I said since that's the name Calum had as the contact and then I pulled my I.D out.
"Number of identification please." The woman said and Calum watched me.
"2091567501." I spoke and waited a few moments for her to speak again.
"Ah, Agent, welcome. Devin will be with you shortly." She said and I tapped my nails against the desk as I waited a few moments.
"Devin speaking, how may I be of service?"
"This is Agent B of the AEA, I assume you know what that is." I said and he told me that he did. "I am working with the band 5 Seconds of Summer, and they claim to have had an agent from your company previously. If possible, can you send me general information on Agent Savanna for mission purposes."
"I will need a number of identification and proof that you are indeed working with the band at the moment." He spoke and I reread the number to him. "Okay, you have half finished."
"Calum," I said and he hummed. "Say something to show Devin you're well, you." I said handed him my phone.
"You bailed us out of jail whe we were singing Kansas songs and your daughter is gay." Calum said and I rolled my eyes. He handed me my phone back and Devin was laughing.
"Ah yes okay then, Agent, how may I help?"
"I need all the information I can get on Savanna and a girl named Rachael, who I'm assuming is an agent there aswell?" I asked him.
"My daughter is not an agent, just a very skilled gunner and a black belt in various forms of fighting." He said and I nodded. "I will send you an email with all the information I am allowed to give out as soon as possible. Check your email tonight."
"Thank you, farewell." I said and then hung up the phone. I set it down and he looked at me.
"You're talking more." He said and I nodded.
"Sometimes it's easier to use words than to continuously glare at people and breath heavily." I told him and he laughed.
