Marinette's P.O.V
I walk out the door and into the town. This town was beautiful in it's own way.
"Little town, it's a quiet village.
Every day, like the one before.
Little town, full of little people.
Waking up to say..."
"Bonjour!"
"Bonjour!"
"Bonjour!"
"Bonjour!"
"Bonjour!"
"There goes the baker with his tray, like always.
The same old bread and rolls to sell.
Every morning just the same.
Since the morning that we came
To this poor provincial town."
"Good morning, Marinette!" I look to see the baker.
"Good morning, Monsieur." He smiles at me.
"Where are you off to?" I hold my book close to my chest.
"The bookshop! I just finished the most wonderful story, about a beanstalk and an ogre and-" He cut me off.
"That's nice. Marie! The baguettes! Hurry up!" No one really listens anyway. I go on my way opening my book to the last page.
"Look there she goes, that girl is strange, no question
Dazed and distracted, can't you tell?"
"Never part of any crowd."
"Cause her head's up on some cloud."
"No denying she's a funny girl that Marinette."
"Bonjour!"
"Good day!"
"How is your family?"
"Bonjour!"
"Good day!"
"How is your wife?"
"I need six eggs!"
"That's too expensive!"
"There must be more than this provincial life!"
I walk into the bookstore that I'm so fond of and see Miss Bustier behind the desk. "Ah, Marinette." She closes the book that she was reading. She smiled at me.
"Good morning. I've come to return the book I borrowed." I hand her the book while Miss Bustier takes it. She laughs.
"Finished already?" I hold the book dreamily close to my chest.
"Oh, I couldn't put it down. Have you got anything new?" I look through the bookshelves looking for a new book. Hoping to be taken someplace else.
"Not since yesterday." I smile and continue looking through the bookshelves spotting my favorite book.
"That's all right. I'll borrow...this one!" I hold it out to Miss Bustier as she looks at the title.
"That one? But you've read it twice!" I smile and take the book away from her hands and hold it close to my chest.
"Well, it's my favorite! Far off places, daring swordfights, magic spells, a prince in disguise!" I could go on and on with this.
"If you like it all that much, it's yours!" I look surprised at Miss Bustier she was smiling sweetly.
"But ma'am!" I hold the book out for her to take, but she pushes into my arms.
"I insist." I smile and hug her as I walk out the door.
"Well, thank you. Thank you very much!" I run out the door reading my new book.
"Look there she goes, that girl is so peculiar.
I wonder if she's feeling well.
With a dreamy, far-off look.
And her nose stuck in a book.
What a puzzle to the rest of us is Marinette."
I sit down at the edge of the fountain and look through my new book. The sheep surround me as I show them the book.
"Oh, isn't this amazing?
It's my favorite part because you'll see.
Here's where she meets Prince Charming
But she won't discover that it's him 'til chapter three!"
"Now it's no wonder that her name means "beauty".
Her looks have got no parallel."
"But behind that fair façade.
I'm afraid she's rather odd.
Very different from the rest of us."
"She's nothing like the rest of us.
Yes, different from the rest of us is Marinette!"
Normal P.O.V
A loud gun shot could be heard as a bird falls from the sky. A young man with glasses and a short figure drags the bird into the sack that he is holding. "Wow! You didn't miss a shot, Kim! You're the greatest hunter in the whole world!"
"I know!" He blows the smoke from his gun.
"Huh. No beast alive stands a chance against you...and no girl for that matter!"
"It's true, Max, and I've got my sights set on that one!" He points at Marinette who was reading a book.
"The inventor's daughter?" Max looks at Marinette. Well, she did look beautiful, but she was so weird when she moved here.
"She's the one! The lucky girl I'm going to marry." Kim smiled to himself, over pretentious that he was going to get Marinette to marry him.
"But she's-" But Kim cut him off.
"The most beautiful girl in town." Kim was glaring at Max, daring him to say something else.
"I know-" Kim cut him off again.
"And that makes her the best. And don't I deserve the best?" Kim was poking into Max's chest.
"Well, of course, I mean you do, but I mean..." Kim looks to Marinette in the distance.
"Right from the moment when I met her, saw her
I said she's gorgeous and I fell.
Here in town, there's only she
Who is beautiful as me.
So I'm making plans to woo and marry Marinette."
"Look there he goes
Isn't he dreamy?
Monsieur Kim!
Oh he's so cute!
Be still my heart
I'm hardly breathing
He's such a tall, dark, strong and handsome brute!"
"Bonjour!"
"Good day!"
"You call this bacon?"
"Some cheese, one pound."
"I'll get the knife."
"This bread – it's stale!"
"Madame's mistaken."
"There must be more than this provincial life!"
"Just watch, I'm going to make Marinette my wife!
Pardon!"
"Mais oui!"
"What lovely grapes!"
"Ten yards!"
"'Scuse me! Please let me through!"
"Those fish, they smell!"
"Well, maybe so!
Good morning!
Oh, good morning!"
"Look there she goes
The girl is strange, but special.
A most peculiar mademoiselle!
It's a pity and a sin.
She doesn't quite fit in.
'Cause she really is a funny girl.
A beauty but a funny girl.
She really is a funny girl.
That Marinette!"
"Bonjour!"
"Bonjour!"
"Bonjour!"
"Bonjour!"
"Bonjour!"
"Bonjour!"
Marinette's P.O.V
I am about to reach home when someone blocks my way. I look up to see Kim. Such a pretentious person. He always gets on my nerves. "Hello, Marinette." I roll my eyes.
"Bonjour, Kim." I try to make my way past Kim, but he takes away my book. "Kim, may I have my book, please?" He looks through it making a disgusted face.
"How can you read this? There's no pictures!" I tried to grab the book away from him, but he pulls it even farther away. Man, I really dislike this man. He is making me angry.
"Well, some people use their imaginations." I fold my arms across my chest. I was already irritated with him.
"Marinette, it's about time you got your head out of those books," Kim threw my book into the mud. Oh I'm going to strangle this guy! "And paid attention to more important things...like me!" I try to pick up my book, but Kim still blocks my way. "The whole town's talking about it." I finally pick up my book and try to wipe off the blood. I see Chloe, Sabrina, and Lila all glaring at me. I don't even know why they have the hots for Kim. He's not even handsome. "It's not right for a woman to read...soon she starts getting ideas...and thinking." He makes a disgusted look when he talks about thinking. What is wrong with all these people? I try to leave.
"Kim, you are positively primeval." I bet he doesn't even know what that word means. Kim puts his arm around my shoulders. I try to shake him off.
"Why thank you, Marinette." I was correct. He doesn't even know what primeval means (I don't either). "Hey, whaddya say you and me take a walk over to the tavern and have a look at my hunting trophies." Kim made a sport out of killing innocent animals. I roll my eyes and take his arm off my shoulders.
"Maybe some other time." Get the idea, idiot! I don't want to be with you! Ever! I see Chloe, Sabrina, and Lila all looking at me.
"What's wrong with her?" They were talking among themselves.
"She's crazy." As if I've never heard that before
"He's gorgeous!" All they can think about is being beautiful and wanting to appeal to the male population. But even if they try to look pretty, they're still ugly on the inside.
"Please, Kim. I can't. I have to get home and help my father." Max and Kim start to laugh. I glare at them.
"Ha ha ha, that crazy old loon, he need all the help he can get!" I glare at Max. They both laugh even harder.
"Don't you talk about my father that way!" Kim stops laughing and hits Max on the top of his head.
"Yeah, don't talk about her father that way!" I roll my eyes.
"My father's not crazy! He's a genius!" I hear an explosion and rush home with Kim and Max laughing heartily behind me. I open the basement and a black cloud of smoke engulfs me.
"Papa?" I see Papa wearing a barrel around him and he tries to take it off. I walk up to him and help him.
"How on earth did that happen? Dog gonnit!" I giggle as Papa's face was covered in soot.
"Are you alright, Papa?" He nods and kicks his machine. I giggle again.
"I'm about ready to give up on this hunk of junk!" I smile and look at the machine. I wonder what it does. It probably has to do with baking though. Maman always loved to bake.
"You always say that." Papa shakes his head and gives a determined look. I giggle.
"I mean it, this time. I'll never get this boneheaded contraption to work." Papa crosses his arms and I smile.
"Yes, you will. And you'll win first prize at the fair tomorrow" Papa huffs not believing me. I give him a hug. "...and become a world famous inventor!" Papa smiles at me.
"You really mean that?" I smile and nod. I see Papa look at the picture.
"We both have, Papa. Maman and I will always believe that." I see a tear roll down Papa's face. We both miss Maman very much.
"Well, then what are we waiting for! I'll have this thing fixed in no time." Papa slides underneath the machine and start to work on it. He sticks his hand out. "Hand me that dog-legged clencher there...." I take out a weird looking thing and hand it to Papa. Papa was very talented. I love to design and my design was upstairs. I really wanted to work on it, but I had to take care of Papa. "So, did you have a good time in town today?" I nod and hold the book close to my chest.
"I got a new book from Miss Bustier." I frown at the memory of the towns people. "Papa, do you think I'm odd?" Papa slides from underneath with the binoculars on his eyes.
"My daughter? Odd? Where would you get an idea like that?" I lean against the wall, sighing.
"Oh, I don't know. It's just that I'm not sure I fit in here. There's no one I can really talk to." Papa smiles at me as I reopen my book. Oh, how I wished I lived in a world like that.
"What about that Kim? He's a handsome fellow!" I roll my eyes. Very arrogant and selfish as well.
"He's handsome all right, and rude and conceited and...Oh Papa, he's not for me!" I look out the entryway and sigh. The sky was perfectly blue. I felt like I belonged someplace else.
"Well, don't you worry, cause this invention's going to be the start of a new life for us." Papa slides out from other from the machine and takes off his binoculars. "I think that's done it. Now, let's give it a try." He pulls the lever and the machine starts to chop wood. Perfect so that you don't have to do it yourselves.
"It works!" I was so proud of Papa!
"It does? It does!" We dance around and I was so happy for Papa.
"You did it! You really did it!" Papa smiles brightly.
"Hitch up Phillipe, girl. I'm off to the fair!" Then I duck to see a log flying and hits Papa in the head. I giggle at that.
