Chapter 4

After hours of talking to Jarvis and eating food that was magically conjured up from the kitchen, Fiona was sat with her feet up and doubling over with laughter after she told Jarvis to tell her dead jokes from the internet.

"Did I ever tell you I was a banker? Yeah, I quit because I lost interest"

She let out a whoop of laughter and flung a chip in the air, laughing like a maniac

"Fiona, these are not in the least funny" Jarvis spoke

"Oh trust me. They're HILARIOUS!" she giggled and bit on a chip.

"This is going completely off topic, the reason I am here is to assist you of your needs with finding and assassinating Target 995. But instead you're telling me to tell you jokes from the internet which are not in the least funny"

"No shit"

"It is the truth." Jarvis said, and Fiona rolled her eyes

"Well stop telling me jokes and put on a song for me, I'd like to hear I'll be There by Jess Glynne"

"You are Incorrigible, Fiona"

"What the hell does incorrigible mean?"

"Incorrigible- the word has a meaning of someone being beyond correction, reform and alteration. It can also have the meaning of one--"

But he was interrupted by Fiona spinning on her chair and raising her voice over him. "Okay Okay I get it, you mean there's no bloody point of telling me that the people I work for are monitoring us and that we should be speaking of how to kill people nothing else because that's what we do. Kill kill and kill." Her mood had switched completely from good to bad, and she had a feeling that even Jarvis, a robot, would probably have regretted mentioning anything at all. How her mood had changed just like how a gun becomes lethal after the trigger is pulled back.

" And also because theres no way I'll listen to you, right?
Well here goes. I. Do. Not. Give. A. Shit. I'm going to do the job aren't I? I'm going to kill my best friend am I not? So let me do it the way I want to, even if that means to have a little fun. I haven't spoken to someone like this this openly, been myself in front of someone in seven years, so let me be me."

There was nothing but silence for the next few minutes, and then Fiona let out a laugh "who am I even telling? You're not even real and here I am thinking I've got a friend. When you're just a robot who they are ordering to listen to me, to help me kill Merleah... Forget it, fine." She sat up "Tell me where she lives I'll go to her workplace and put a bullet through her goddamn head within no time"

Shit was getting real, and what Jarvis said surprised her.

She was expecting a 'you have disrespected the League, and shall pay' but instead Jarvis spoke

"I'll be There by Jess Glynne coming right up" and then the music began.

"Wha---" Fiona sputtered but there was no more word from Jarvis, only Jess Glynne as she began singing

When all the tears are rolling down your face
And it feels like yours was the only heart to break
When you come back home and all the lights are out, ooh
And you're getting used to no one else being around

Fiona knew that there was nothing to say, and that Jarvis most likely didn't want to talk either, so put the large box of chips to the side and sat back with her eyes closed, listening to the song.

* * * *

The next morning she woke to see that she had fallen asleep in the tech room, and Jarvis didn't even bother waking her. She checked the time on her watch and found that it was 11:15am, and rubbed her eyes

"Jarvis?"

"Good morning Fiona, I hope you slept well"

"Jesus, you're fast" Fiona jumped a little

"Scared you did I?"

"Pfft no" she lied with a scoff

"Good because I wouldn't want to. On the brighter side of things, Merleah Henderson will be finishing work at 13:15pm, and that is when you shall be going to meet with her. "

"Yay" she smiled a fake smile

"One question, if you don't mind me asking"

"Why would I mind? Shoot" she began getting up

"When are you going to assassinate Target 995?"

"I have three days to do the job. I'll see whenever, although my initial plan was to get to know her again, chat some shit about where I've been, hang around with her, and then on the last day... You know"

"That seems like a great plan"

She looked around with a confused look "Hey, why are you being so nice?"

"No reason."

"Okay..."

And then she headed out of the room saying she wanted to change her clothes and go over the plan, so she is ready to go meet her ex-best friend.

She went for a pee, brushed her teeth and stared at her hair with a brush in her hand

"Im not going to even bother the slightest with you"

And put the brush on the stand, walking over to another room. Clearing her throat she smiled and stood on the platform opposite the door.

And then hyped for five seconds.

Three guesses what happened when she did.

The door unlocked, and Fiona let out a chuckle and flicked back her hair dramatically "Still got it in you, fiona. Well done" and gave herself a pat on the back before entering.

It was a room full of clothes, neverending clothes. And not only clothes, which is what brought a cheeky grin to her face when she approached a table in the far corner.

After a couple of touches in the weirdest places, a screen appeared, and she carefully wrote her Agent number and password just before the table began to rise with a click and move to the side, leaving a hole in the ground.

Looking over, Fiona climbed down the stairs, making her way down the hole. As she did, she came to a stop when she sensed no more steps, and let herself drop only a few inches down when her feet hit the floor.

And that's when the lights came on.

Guns

Snipers

Machine guns

Pistols

Every type of gun you can mention, all at her aid. And all hers. Which was what made her feel good. Although good was an understatement.

"Come to mama" she laughed, and then spent a long time in that room, not realising when she came out that she had spent 45 minutes down there.

Getting a standard khaki shirt and black jeans and boots, she made her way to the tech room, hiding a gun under her shirt just in case.

"You ready?" Jarvis asked

"Yep, where does she work again?"

"How about we do an overview of everything?"

"That's sick, go on then. How long do we have?"

"An hour until she exits the building"

"Cool, so I'll be outside the workplace at 1"

"You have it all sorted don't you, Fiona?"

"Of course, how can I possibly be me if I don't have it all sorted?" She grinned sarcastically.

"Back to work. Merleah Kaylee Henderson, age 22, height 5"4, weight 45kg. Ger routine on business days is wakes up at 5am, goes for a jog for half an hour, comes back to her apartment on 5th street, Diana's Hotel, room 601, has a shower for ten minutes, gets out and does all her necessities. Has breakfast, usually a glass of pure apple juice and two toasted breads with jam--"

ew, Fiona thought. First apple juice not orange, and now jam not margerine? This girl surely had changed in all these years.

"Then leaves for work at 6am, gets a cab to Samson's Reporting Enterprise, also known as SRE. Arrives there at 6:15am and begins work at 6:30. Gets three break intervals, one at 9:00, second at 11:15 and third at 12:30pm. Works until 13:15pm and then comes home."

"Wow, Jarvis thanks. But tell me, how does what she has for breakfast benefit me in any way? Unless you want me to poison the jam..." She grinned and she knew that if Jarvis was real he would've rolled his eyes at her.

"You could try. After all, it is down to the Agent how they like to kill their targets, I am here to be of any kind of help"

Fiona bit her lip "You can't be that much help when you're only in this room"

"And who says I have to remain 'only in this room'?"

"You being bloody serious?!" She stood straight in front of the table where a hologram of Merleah was still there from Jarvis' overview.

"Well... I really shouldn't have said that because I've never done it before. There are ways, but I'm not completely positively sure whether it can work. And if I am permitted to allow this"

"Ugh Jarvis you're a real killer when it comes to suspense. All you had to say was 'I'm not bloody sure if its gonna work and I'm not allowed'. Why do you drag it on as if you've been told to give a lecture that can't be less than three billion words?" She threw up her hands, and Jarvis asked

"Do you want to know a way?"

"Yeah..."

"Go to cabinet 556 to section 443 and drawer 332"

"Hey hey, easy there tiger!" Fiona yelled in confusion as Jarvis spoke so rapidly

"Well you were the one who instructed me to not drag my words, so I thought--" but she interrupted him with a laugh

"Yeah but not like that " and after realising Jarvis didn't understand when he replied with silence, she shrugged "just be you. Forget what I say. Anyways, you were saying?"

"Cabinet 556, drawer-"
"Hang on." She walked over to the cabinets in one corner of the room and looked at the labels, searching for 556.

"Okay, found it." And she searched it.
"Section 443" and she found it
"Drawer 332" and she opened it.

"Now what?" Fiona asked, pushing back a strand of hair behind her ear.

"What do you see?"

"A shitload of ear coms"

"There can be a better phrase to describe that, Fiona. Your language is quite rude and straightforward."

"That's me" she smiled " so what do i do?"

"Find an ear com that suits you best, Fiona"

After a couple of moments looking at the different sizes and styles, she picked out an ear com about the size of a small piece of blu tac, smaller than a fingertip.

"Awesome" she whispered, and then Jarvis told her to bring it over to the table screen. As she did so, he told her to place it on the screen, and then it began changing colour. From white to black. When the colour was completely changed, the screen made a noise and it said 'TRANSFER COMPLETE'

"Jarvis?"

Silence.

"Hello? Yoohoo anybody here?"

Silence.

Staring down at the ear com, Fiona lifted it with her fingertip, and eyed it.
Was it going to blow? She had to weigh out the possibilites, she had something blow up in her face once.

Not pleasant at all.

Shrugging, she placed the com into her ear, it attaching to the inner part of her ear like a magnet. And that's when Jarvis spoke

"Hello? Fiona? I'm here, where are you?"

"Where'd you go?" Fiona laughed looking around "I thought you dissed me then, I was going to cry from heartbreak"

"I'm in your ear." Was the reply, and the smile vanished from her face and she jumped

"Holy shit. I didn't realise that at all, cos you're never in one place I--" she stopped and was, for once, speechless.

So Jarvis made it clear

"Like this, I am with you wherever you go"

"HELL YEAH JARVIS! I SWEAR I COULD HUG YOU RIGHT NOW IF YOU ARE REAL"

"Well, everything happens for a reason, doesn't it?"

"You mother--"

"Language, Fiona. How about we go to that building now?"
