Chapter 25
The journey on the plane was infuriating, and when I used that big word, I meant it.
I hated him, and the universe made me spend so much time with him.
There could never have been anyone in my entire life who was as annoying as Dominic, who was as stuck up and a bitch as Dominic, and definitely as irritatingly gorgeous.
I almost felt the Daston song from Beauty And The Beast coming up.
Yes, I admitted that he was gorgeous, he flashed his shirtless body off too many times in the past while that it was impossible to say otherwise.
To myself only.
The flight we endured was 21 hours long from America to England, and with the two stops and the traffic of all the people, it was 23.
It was like being locked in a room with him, which I had been before several times, but I hated it.
Liar. You had the time of your life.
Okay, it wasn't the worst, because there was an old Russian man sitting beside me, and he didn't understand what we were talking about.
So when me and Dominic were constantly bickering at one another, Adrian, maybe got the idea that Dominic was bothering me, and he began speaking in a low and deep, threatening voice, fully Russian, warning Dom.
Eventually after about five minutes when he was done, Dominic just cleared his throat, nodding and turning around, and I smiled a cheeky smile at Adrian who patted me on the head.
I was in the middle of them both, and when Adrian glared at Dom before he fell asleep, Dominic moved close to whisper in my ear.
"He actually seems scary."
"From what I think I got, I'm so sure he was saying something about calling his mafia gang to beat your ass." I whispered back with a snort, and he scoffed in disbelief.
"If only he knew."
"Alright, Mr Big boots." I made a face at him, and he glared at me.
"Hey, Allistair."
"What?"
"What's the time?"
"It's 9:04AM, and it's been two minutes since the last time you asked."
"Right."
So...maybe we were annoying each other?
"Oi, Fiona."
"Who you calling? I don't see anyone green here." I rolled my eyes, and he chuckled.
"Oh, shit." He breathed, and I turned to him.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
He wiped a hand over his face, and whenever he did that, it was because he was stressed or something.
But when he looked at me and spoke, my expression fell straight off my face.
"You're blind as well as stupid. And I just realised that you're going to get me killed. If you can't recognise yourself, how the hell are you going to recognise your bloody enemies?"
My blood was boiling. I punched him so hard on the shoulder he yelled, and I realised it was his hurt one.
Even better.
"I hate you, so, so, so, much. And I'm going to get you killed? Hell nah, I'm going to kill you myself, asshole."
I sat back against my seat, letting out frustrated breaths to calm myself down.
He was shaking with laughter, and I could feel him, but I didn't even once look at him.
"I'm going to tell Adrian over you. Watch."
He started laughing even more, and when I finally just turned to him, fuming, I took his appearance in.
Dom was wearing a dark blue V-neck with a thin grey cardigan over it, and his hair was scruffy, his wide grin creasing up his brown eyes and his dimple was protruding, his scar a faint brown mark on his sun-kissed skin.
Focus.
"Why are you still laughing, weirdo? You find your own jokes and dumbass lines funny?"
His shoulders rested, and he grinned at me.
"Nope, but I'm glad you do."
"I didn't--" I started but he cut me off.
"And the reason I'm laughing is because you're sat there boiling like a potato and didn't even deny anything I said."
I pursed my lips as he laughed again, and then the sight of him and his annoying demeanor just made me start laughing too.
I was so pissed, but I was laughing.
After a while, we played like ten rounds of Rock, Paper, Scissors (which he kept winning), and then we spoke about the movies we like, arguing over which Pirates Of The Carribean movies was the best.
We also talked about funny people we had met, me telling him a story about how I had to seduce one of my first targets, and I was getting so cringed out because he was literally drooling all over me and stalking me everhwhere, so I ended up shooting him in the middle of his love confession.
Dominic was just laughing, telling me I was a heartbreaker.
It felt nice, to be honest. The story wasn't even that funny, but telling him and him laughing - even if he was faking it - just gave it justice and I felt like I was some comedian. Whatever it was, I liked it.
He then told me a story about how a girl was obsessed with him, and whenever she saw him she'd literally jump on him at every chance she'd get, and try to get close to him even though he made it clear he didn't like her.
When him and his friends were at a pool party, she showed up and was fangirling over him, telling every person he was her boyfriend, so when she 'accidentally' pushed them both into the pool together, he jumped out as soon as he fell in, angry as hell. Still, helped her out, being the gentleman he was, but as soon as she got out and moved up to kiss him, he said "Oops" and pushed her back into the pool, walking off while everyone behind was laughing.
"Of course you'd do that!" I cackled, and Adrian opened his eyes and muttered something in Russian at me before turning the other way.
All I heard was "Tupaya korova."
I didn't even know if it was that or I made it up.
I was sat cross legged, fully turned onto one side, facing Dom who had his arm resting on my seat, his legs stretched across my feet space, and we were both comfortable as my feet were up.
"Shit, I think the mafia thing is for me now, too." I whispered, and we both giggled.
Going quiet, I saw that he was just looking at me with the faint smile on his lips, and I bit my lip awkwardly, but didn't look away.
He broke the contact, clearing his throat and averting his eyes, and Iet out the breath that was caught in my throat.
"I think we should get some sleep." Dominic finally said, and I just nodded, beginning to turn around and sort myself out.
I needed to relax, he was just looking at me normally, I wasn't used to any of this stuff but it didn't mean it wasn't normal for him.
"Hey, do you mind if I stay like this?" He moved closer to me, his arm still across my seat behind me and he rested his head back.
"Yeah, I'm comfortable like this anyway." I stayed where I was, feet up and facing Dominic who had scooted closer to me. What was I supposed to say? No?
Well, Hayley Williams certainly would have. Maybe Fiona likes being this close.
"Okay." He awkwardly smiled at me, and I smiled back, thinking, where the hell was I supposed to lean now?
Even the other night, I woke up and saw that his arm was over me, and I was feeling suffocated because of the fact that it was heavy and because it was his arm, and I did throw it off but he just grunted in his sleep before throwing it back onto me.
I managed to fidget around and get my head to rest on my seat, but I was slightly on his arm, and when he didn't move it, I took advantage and rested my head onto it, closing my eyes so I wouldn't have to endure the awkward stare.
It was my turn now, he put his arm over me, I put myself over him.
His arm.
Get your head out of the gutter.
After a while, I slowly opened my eyes to check if he was looking at me, and he was, so I just shut them again, and heard his soft laugh.
We had been awake for sixteen hours of the flight, and slept for the remaining couple, and I woke when Dominic called my name, telling me the plane had landed.
Saying goodbye to Adrian, he gave me a hug, laughing when I said 'Tupaya korova' to him, and he shook Dom's hand giving him suspicious looks, and we got out of the airport after checking ourselves in, me with a blonde wig and him with a big mustache and sunglasses.
Mr and Mrs my arse. I bet he did that purposely.
It was always freezing in England. And I warn you all, if you see the sun from your window, don't ever think it's warm. Because as soon as you get out the door with shorts on, you'll get a flu and frostbite. Maybe the frostbite thing was a little too much.
"So, is Jimmy coming to pick us up?" I nudged him as we got out, and were stood waiting in the cold.
Dom let out a laugh, "Aren't you excited to meet him? Trust me, you won't like him."
"I like everyone. I think I'll like him." I smirked, and saw him stiffen up.
"You won't, he's--"
"Well, I guess I'll find out for myself." I interrupted, giving him a weird look, wondering what was up with him.
"Fine." He rolled his eyes and stalked over to a Tesla stood a couple of metres away from us, and I followed, muttering 'What's stuck up his ass?'.
He knocked his knuckles on the window, leaning down, and his chain dangled. I saw the chain around his neck multiple times, and realised it was something sentimental for him, because when we were in any sort of mess, which we were so many times, I had seen him hold it for a second before doing anything, even if he thought I wasn't looking.
It was probably from Isabelle.
The window came down and a young guy, around the same age as us, poked his head out, fixing his glasses on his nose.
"Oh, hey! I didn't see the time. It's been a long time, bro."
Dom nodded, "It's good to see you, Jimmy." He looked back at me and gestured to come.
"Hey, I'm Jimmy. You must be Dom's bird, jump in." He smiled at me, and I glared at Dom before sitting in.
"I'm Hayley, and no, not Dom's bird. But it's nice meeting you."
"I like her." He laughed, poking Dom who was sat in the passenger seat, and looked at me through the rear view mirror with a grin.
Dom didn't even reply, and after a couple of seconds, I moved forward and turned the radio on, and when the car jolted, I nearly flew forward, but a hand held me firmly from the arm. I looked over at Dom and he just stared at me, and I gave him a small smile before moving back.
"Sorry, my fault. I've always been a shit driver. But don't worry, we're only fifteen minutes away from Knightsbridge, where we live. You'll survive, just about. Dad's excited to see you guys."
"Yeah, me too. And hey, remember when you flew the car into a wall?" Dom smirked, and we all laughed.
Jimmy then raised his eyebrows, "Oh, I love this song!" And turned up the volume.
Me and Dom looked at each other awkwardly as we didn't recognise the song, but Jimmy was shaking the whole car with his dance moves.
When we finally entered Knightsbridge, I looked around and took it all in. I hadn't been in this part of London before, I was always in Kensington, Chelsea or West Brompton even, and it was stunning.
Knightsbridge was one of the richest and poshest neighbourhoods in the world, I knew a couple of people who had mentioned that, but I just never went there personally.
Posh places weren't really my thing, I mean they were, but weren't at the same time, I preferred small and loud and friendly places more.
When the song finished and Jimmy didn't recognise the next one, he turned it off and cleared his throat.
"So, Hayley, I've heard a lot about you."
I was looking out the window, but when he spoke, I moved forward.
"You have? Good things or bad?" I grinned, and he let out a chuckle.
"A bit of both, mostly bad if I'm being honest, and I guess it's because you're from the rival side of the family, but I find that badass and attractive."
"Wow." I nodded, and then glanced at Dom before saying, "Well, I've heard a lot about you too."
"Really?" He smiled, pushing back his blond hair and pushing his glasses up.
"I told her about you and Jared so she wasn't lost when it came to meeting you." Dom spoke, not allowing me to say anything, and I rolled my eyes.
"Lost? She doesn't seem that type to me." Jimmy raised an eyebrow, and I just looked between the two guys in front, thinking : What the hell?
"Hey, I'm not a lost person, okay? I learn people's names and things about them real fast, and everything else too."
I heard Dom laugh sarcastically.
"Jimmy, there was a guy named Jacob, and she called him all sorts like Jonathan and James even though she knew his name.
And there was a Luke, who she called Liam, so yeah, she's real lost. Those that I told you are the only ones that have come to mind, but I bet you there's more."
"I hate your cousin, Jimmy. He's a real asshole, was he adopted? Because his brother Cole and you have way more integrity than him." I tapped him on the shoulder and glared at Dom.
Jimmy parked the car and was laughing.
"Wow, you do really fight like a couple. Now come on, we're here."
I didn't have time to reply to him or hear Dom's remark, because I was too busy staring out of the window and getting out of the car. This place was stunning, it had a huge garden with a pool in the middle, and there were trees lined up on both sides of it, creating a path towards the mansion.
I was in awe, and although I had seen many places just like it, it felt different. Because this time, it felt like a home, not a house, and I realised that more and more after we spent time there.
The doors were opened by a doorman, and I was nervously looking around that I didn't see Dominic walking beside me until he spoke in my ear.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine here."
How did he know me so well? Without talking or showing him how I felt, he already knew.
"Who said I was worrying?" I looked up at him, and he smirked.
A man in his early fifties came up to us as we were stood in the door, and I was guessing he was Jared by the way he was grinning at me and Dominic.
"Finally, you're here! Ah, kid it's good to see you." He hugged Dominic and patted him on the back, then moving back turning to me, my heart rate speeding up as he did.
"You must be Hayley. It's a pleasure to meet you in person."
I smiled, holding out my hand, but he moved forward and hugged me, and I had to admit... I melted into it.
"You've become such a beautiful young woman, Jonathan would be proud." He moved back and smiled at me, making me shocked and surprised at the same time.
No one had spoken to me like that in so long, spoken about my father, and meeting Dominic Hawke's uncle who was close with him definitely was a new one.
And the way Jared was looking at me made me feel so safe, I had no idea why, but it was the first time in so long that I felt like I had an elder who wanted what was best for me.
"Wow, erm... thanks, I guess." I laughed awkwardly, and just looked over at Dom who was staring at me with a small smile, and I cleared my throat.
"Come on, I don't want to keep you standing here. I'm sure my nephew didn't let you get any rest on the plane whatsoever." Jared laughed, holding out his arm to me, and I laughed, taking it. He was such a gentleman.
"You have no idea."
"That is rude. And completely a lie, I have to add." Dominic joined, and Jared waved his hand dismissively but smiling.
"I know how you are, Nick."
I got a room to myself in the huge mansion, but first I showered properly, which I hadn't in so long, and was given new clothes which Jimmy had bought from downtown for me, and I was impressed he had good style.
I wore some leggings and a long black sweatshirt ontop, so I was warm and comfortable at the same time, and I left my wet hair out after I dried jt with a towel.
When I went down to find everyone, I saw that Jimmy and Jared were in the huge and decorative dining room, waiting on me and Dominic, and they were talking before Jared looked up and saw me stood in the door way.
"Darling, how do you feel? I thought you might be hungry before you got some rest."
I headed over to the table and took a seat next to Jimmy, who was eyeing the chicken stir fry in the middle of the table.
"Yeah, I'm starving. I haven't eaten properly in days, Dom got me doughnuts and a hot chocolate the day before, but that's not food, and then plane food is just horrible."
"Wow. I don't know how you're still sat here. I've eaten twice already today and it's only four p.m, and I'm still starving."
"Well, not everyone eats for himself and the rest of the family, and look at how much work these two do. The most work he has done is gone walking to get food but got a taxi back." Jared winked at me, and I started laughing, while Jimmy went red and laughed awkwardly.
I nudged him, "It's okay, I'd rather be working like you than be working like me."
Jared's expression changed, and I stiffened up, hoping he wasn't offended or anythung by what I hsd said, but then I caught a sympathetic look.
"I know, and I'm sorry that you two are in this mess. Only if there was something more I could do to help."
"No, really it's fine. Thank you, you've already done so much for us, for me, no one has ever done what you have, and I don't think anyone ever will."
"Well, we're here for you, so if you ever need anything, you know who you can call." Jimmy poked me, and I smiled at him and Jared.
"I promise, I'll get you the money for the plane ticket and the passport when I get back onto my feet."
Jared frowned. "Nonsense. You came with my nephew and you both need help, and I was going to do it for him anyway.
But, when I found out you're Jon's daughter it made me want to help even more, so no, you definitely are not going to pay for anything, young lady."
"Ah, finally you're here. We can eat!" Jimmy widened his eyes hungrily, and I turned to see Dominic walk in, wearing a white V-neck and blue jeans, his brown hair dripping slightly.
He came and sat opposite me, but didn't even look at me once when he did, and I had no idea what was wrong with me if I was being honest.
"What are we talking about?" He asked, and Jared smiled at me before looking back at him.
"Hayley was about to tell me everything that happened between you both."
That was the first time Dominic looked at me, and I couldn't stand the awkwardness.
Why did it feel like we had done something wrong? And why did 'everything that happened between you both' hit differently?
I cleared my throat and did the only thing I used to when I was nervous.
I started babbling.
Halfway through when I was talking, I calmed down because I didn't look once at Dom, and also because it felt really nice to be talking truthfully about my life to some people and not have to lie about anything.
When me and Dom were done talking and laughing, interrupting each other to fill in hilarious and serious gaps the other missed out while Jared and Jimmy listened, we were knackered.
We were drinking, and I didn't know what time I had fallen asleep or at one point, but all I remembered was that we were all sat around on sofas drinking and laughing, and I was sat next to Dom, where I felt safe.
After a long time, I felt safe.
I felt like I had a family.
