Charlie
(It was a bright sunny morning when a beautiful young woman exited her house and began her walk into town. This young woman's name was Charlotte, but she preferred to go by her childhood nickname, Charlie. She had shoulder length dark brown hair, chocolate brown eyes, and a petite figure. She was wearing a white t-shirt, a green jacket, dark blue jeans, and a pair of green combat boots. Her silky dark brown hair flowed freely down her shoulders. She carried a book as she began her morning walk into town. Birds flitted about her as she passed.)
[Charlie]
Little town, it's a quiet village
Every day like the one before
Little town, full of little people
Waking up to say
[Townsfolk]
Hello! Hi there! Good morning! Good day! Hello!
[Charlie]
There goes the baker with his tray like always
The same old bread and rolls to sell
Every morning just the same
Since the morning that we came
To this poor provincial town
[Baker, spoken]
Good morning Charlie!
[Charlie, spoken]
Good morning, sir.
[Baker, spoken]
And where are you off to?
[ Charlie, spoken]
The bookshop. I just finished the most wonderful story about a girl and a robot and a-
[Baker,spoken]
That's nice. Marie! The bread! Hurry up!
[Townsfolk]
Look there she goes, that girl is strange, no question
Dazed and distracted, can't you tell?
Never part of any crowd
Cause her head's up on some cloud
No denying she's a funny girl, that Charlie
[Man]
Hello!
[Woman]
Good day!
[Man]
How is your family?
[Woman]
Hello!
[Man]
Good day!
[Woman]
How is your wife?
[Woman]
I need six eggs!
[Man]
That's too expensive!
[Charlie]
There must be more than this provincial life!
(Charlie walks to the bookstore and enters it.)
[Bookseller, spoken]
Ah, Charlie!
[Charlie, spoken]
Good morning, I've come to return the book I borrowed.
[Bookseller, spoken]
Finished already?
[Charlie, spoken]
Oh, I couldn't put it down. Have you got anything new?
[Bookseller, spoken]
Not since yesterday.
[Charlie, spoken]
That's alright. I'll borrow...this one.
[Bookseller, spoken]
That one? But you've read it twice!
[Charlie, spoken]
It's my favorite. Far off places, daring sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise...
[Bookseller, spoken]
If you like all that much, it's yours.
[Charlie, spoken]
But sir...
[Bookseller, spoken]
I insist.
[Charlie, spoken]
Well, thank you! Thank you very much!
(Charlie exits the bookstore and continues her walk through town, burying her face in her book all the while.)
[Townsfolk]
Look there she goes, that girl is so peculiar
I wonder if she's feeling well
With a dreamy far off look
And her nose stuck in a book
What a puzzle to the rest of us is Charlie
[Charlie]
Oh, isn't this amazing?
It's my favorite part because you'll see
Here's where she meets Prince Charming
But she won't discover that it's him till chapter three
[Woman]
Now it's no wonder that her nickname's Beauty
Her looks have got no parallel
[Shopkeeper]
But behind that fair facade
I'm afraid she's rather odd
Very different from the rest of us
[Townsfolk]
She's nothing like the rest of us
Yes, different from the rest of us is Charlie!
(Meanwhile, an arrogant hunter named Arty was planning to marry Charlie. He had dark brown eyes, a muscular figure and curly brown hair. His sidekick, John, who was always with him, had messy black hair and emerald green eyes.)
(Speaking segment)
John: Wow! You didn't miss a shot, Arty! You're the greatest hunter in the whole world!
Arty: I know.
John: No beast alive stands a chance against you, and no girl for that matter.
Arty: It's true John, and I've got my sight set on that one.
John: The inventor's daughter?
Arty: She's the one, the lucky girl I'm going to marry.
John: But she-
Arty: The most beautiful girl in town.
John: I know but-
Arty: That makes her the best. And don't I deserve the best?
John: But of course! I mean, you do! But I-
(End speaking segment)
[Arty]
Right from the moment when I met her, saw her
I said she's gorgeous and I fell
Here in town there's only she
Who is beautiful as me
So I'm making plans to woo and marry Charlie
[Bimbettes]
Look there he goes
Isn't he dreamy?
Sir Arty
Oh, he's so cute!
Be still my heart
I'm hardly breathing
He's such a tall, dark, strong, and handsome brute!
[Woman]
Hello!
[Arty]
Pardon
[Charlie]
Good day
[Woman]
But of course
[Woman]
You call this bacon?
[Woman]
What lovely grapes!
[Man]
Some cheese
[Woman]
Ten yards!
[Man]
One pound
[Arty]
Excuse me! Please let me through!
[Cheese merchant]
I'll get the knife
[Woman]
This bread -
[Woman]
Those fish -
[Woman]
It's stale!
[Woman]
They smell!
[Man]
Madame's mistaken.
[Women]
Well, maybe so.
[Townsfolk]
Good morning! Oh, good morning!
[Charlie]
There must be more than this provincial life!
[Arty]
Just watch, I'm going to make Charlie my wife!
[Townsfolk]
Look there she goes
The girl that's strange but special
A most peculiar woman
It's a pity and a sin
She doesn't quite fit in
Cause she really is a funny girl
A beauty but a funny girl
She really is a funny girl
That Charlie!
