Days passed with in a blur of time, each day and night nearly the same. The days would be spent with the Cullen's learning more about them, nights would be spent tucked away in Carlisle's office reading in the company of the man.

It was not long before she had run out of things to do- it was the third day after the newly wed couple had left that Reyna spent more time in the kitchen with someone chattering beside her baking as many sweets and meals that she could.

There was a desperation that clawed at her chest, tearing her towards an spoken border between the tribe and the vampires. She wanted to go, to sit and spend as much time as she could near him but she had stopped going after a wolf named Leah had screamed at her about how he would never come out to see her- though she never stopped leaving food near the border when she knew that one of them was scheduled to pass by, tucking a small note within the packages.

Alice believed that it was adorable and Reyna liked to believe that he was reading them. Each letter contained something small about her day or a tidbit about herself, each handwritten with her new phone number scrawled on the bottom.

It was the nights that she could hear the howls of the wolves when she ran through the trees hunting that it would hurt the most. Her chest would ache and eyes would well with emotion for someone that was destined to be hers but refused to meet her.

She would wander closer those nights, daring to near the treaty line at night when they would be much more alert and weary. Listening and hoping to hear him once more, to catch a glimpse of him.

It was a night like so when they wolves howled and called to one another that that Reyna sat quietly by the border as Emmett and Jasper continued to hunt. It was always a game with them on who could catch the biggest animal and she would have participated had she not seen the glint of dark eyes watching her.

The wolf sat on his haunches, still taller than herself with fur darker than the night that blanketed them. He didn't move once she realized that she saw him and neither did she, she instead sat with head held high on her side of what she believed to be a dumb rule.

She had not yet met this shifter, the man that lay beneath fur was a mystery to her as much as her own imprinter was. Knowing nothing of the pack when they knew so much of her left her at an extreme disadvantage.

"Is it true, what Carlisle says about you having a shared mind when in this form? Can Embry hear me speak? Is he shifted at the moment?" Reyna found herself leaning forward on her elbows out of habit, balancing them on her knees.

The wolf made no move to respond and the sound of Emmett's bellowing laughter growing distant didn't bother her all that much, it gave her the chance to be alone. She could hunt later if she needed to because she was not willing to pass on this opportunity.

She waited for some kind of response but began to grow increasingly more impatient the longer she sat without some form of conversation.

It was wearing her optimism thin, the good in this situation running dry. She wondered how long she could allow herself to be disappointed for over a group of people that despised her existence.

"It's hard to admit but he gives me hope, you know, even if I've never met him." Reyna kept her eyes on the ground, the brash ruby color had diminished quite a bit but had still not faded completely from the red that marked her for what she was. "The idea that I can be happy, as happy as the others with a mate at my side to keep me from being reminded of the creature that I am gives me hope that I can be the same person I was as a human- if that makes any sense."

She tucked her hair behind her ear angrily. Her thoughts weren't being expressed with the right words, the way she felt feeling dull with the way she explained them.

"What I'm trying to say is that he gives me hope that I could be normal but I'm not going to force him to do anything that he doesn't want," Reyna told the wolf, finally meeting his eyes. She wasn't surprised by how neutral the animal remained, not giving away anything in the slightest. "If this is some kind of meeting to let me know that I'm not wanted then fine, consider me noted. At least Leah had the decency to actually tell me."

The animal didn't move as she suddenly stood to her feet, she didn't wait for it to as she began to run in the direction that Emmett and Jasper disappeared in.

Her head spitting multiple scenarios at he where she didn't let her annoyance get the better of her. she could have been patient, kinder. She knew that some of the Cullen's had to wait decades or longer to meet their mate but Reyna believed her situation was different.

She knew who he was, his imprint on her made her realize over the newborn bloodlust that settled in her- he had squashed it down, given her something else to focus on. He was minutes away form her, she had seen him, been within reaching distance. She didn't have to wait to find him because she already knew it was Embry but he did not want her.

There was something about the possibility that kept her positive about the situation but now the skepticism only seemed to be reinforced by the amount of time that passed without any form of contact.

It didn't take her long to come across Emmett and Jasper, both hunting within a short range of one another. Jasper was already a few animals in, that she could tell by the bright glimmer in his eyes when she came up to him.

He was bent over a mountain lion, the animal dead and slumped in his arms. She admired the clean kill, the pelt in perfect condition.

Emmett was in a different situation when she found him. He had yet to feed and was in the middle of tracking a bear that he had caught the scent of on the way here.

She had taken it as a challenge, her instincts kicking in and she darted off with the boy on her trail angrily. She pushed herself to run faster than him, her size making it easier for her to dart through the trees at a blinding speed.

He reached out for her, hands grazing at the back of her shirt and she yelped. She launched herself forward, summersaulting through the air and onto the ground before she jumped up to her feet- racing ahead of the boy with a laugh.

She could hear the howls of wolves in the distance, the border a few miles away from her but she didn't let it bother her this time- pushing it away forcefully out of determination to not let them ruin this moment for her.

It was easy to find the bear, it was holed away in a cave- deep rumbling snores echoing from within. Reyna let out a peal of laughter as she looked over her shoulder catching sight of Emmett's angry expression.

"Shouldn't have taken a break and went straight for the bear!" she called to him. She darted into the cave, ready to wake the sleeping bear.

Walking toward the Cullen home after a night of hunting with the boys, she was not expecting her good mood to come crashing own around her at an instant.

The thrum of a heartbeat was heard from just beyond the treeline and immediately she hid herself, slipping behind a trunk to prevent eyes from within the home from seeing her, the boys having similar ideas.

She appeared a mess, her clothes were tattered and bloodstained from the fun she had played with her food. It was a distraction, one that continued to amuse her no matter how long she did it. For Reyna, it was thrilling to be strong enough to wrestle wild animals and walk away unscathed.

Though it was situations like these that left her at disadvantage for not only did she need to remain invisible to the population of Forks, but she could not appear looking as she did now.

The two boys hidden somewhere behind her were the first to emerge, moving to the front door at an enhanced speed- something they would not risk with a human present and Reyna grew curious. Taking an unneeded breath of air, her nose scrunched and her body recoiled.

A fire scorched in her throat despite the amount that she had fed during the night and pulling at her chest. It was an impossible feeling, one that she was surprised she could overcome.

The heat that grew in her chest puled her to the house despite herself, body hidden from sight. Her entry to the home was silent but she was positive they heard her enter. It was difficult to repress the habit of breathing, it was her determination that aided her and keeping her from breathing in the sweet scent that she knew could only belong to him.

Seeing him, standing in the middle of the Cullen home with the family sitting around him was different than anything she could have imagined. He was tall, towering over herself and lanky, hair on top his head shaggy and dark- onyx.

His chest was bare, cut off jeans hung low on his hip, shoeless feet hinting at the fact that he had run here.

Anticipation flared in her, the possibility of speaking to him was suffocating as she was unable to guess what he was here for. She feared what he would have to say but she was terrified of not having the chance to hear it.

She tried to slip by and head for the stairs but a step creaked beneath her foot and their attention all snapped to her- locking in on the sound. She cursed mentally and tried to estimate the chances of her getting upstairs before one of them caught her.

"Reyna, you have a guest," Esme told her, smiling where they suspected that she stood. She shifted on her feet uneasily, not knowing what to do.

It was hard to speak whilst holding her breath and she chose not to answer right away. She tried to mentally prepare herself how he would smell to her- of wet dirt and iron, an unnatural mixture that drove her to near insanity.

"Hi." Her voice sounded hoarse, forced, and unsteady.

Embry seemed to respond to the sound of her voice, brows furrowing as he looked in the direction of where she stood invisible. "Are you okay?"

The worry that she heard in his voice was something she tried to convince herself hat she had mistaken- that it was something she conjured up on her own accord.

"Peachy," she breathed out, using it as a chance to suck in a quick breath to ease the anxiety in her chest that formed at the lack of breathing.

She could feel the pressure on her and she looked to Embry, the boy was more uncomfortable and looked as though he was beginning to regret his decision to come here and her heart ached at the thought of him leaving. Her mind flit to the condition of her room, wondering if it was presentable enough for him to wait there, away from the others.

"Do you want to go to my room?" she questioned, finding courage to address him without prompting from anyone else.

He was hesitant to agree but the prospect of getting away from the rest of the family seemed to outweigh the consequences of being alone with her.

"I guess." Embry shuffled on his feet and it sent an ache to her chest, the awkwardness of his nature was so completely charming.

Reyna nodded. "Right, okay, sorry," she stammered. "Follow me."

Forgetting that no one could see her, she began to make her way up the stairs at a human pace. It was a clearing of Rosalie's throat that reminded her that she was still invisible causing her to startle.

Embry was still standing in the same place, face scrunched in confusion and she pouted. She approached him cautiously, making sure that she made noise so that he didn't feel as though he was in danger when she stood in front of him.

She reached a hand out, hovering it over his skin and he stiffened, hairs rising at the cold temperature that her skin radiated.

"May I?" she asked shyly, certain that she would blush if she could.

It was a pure type of intimacy, butterflies alight in her stomach that made her nervous in the best type of way. The notion of holding his hand was far greater than any other intimate moment she had experienced.

He nodded slowly, and her hand met his the next instant without a moment to spare. She was firm yet gentle as she guided him to the stairs she moved at a human pace allowing him to take in the upper level at his leisure.

The way to her room was simple and there wasn't much to observe other than the paintings and old relics that decorated the home. Other than the doors and the clear scents that poured from the other side he could not tell one room from another due to their typical exterior appearances.

It was when they got close to her room did he notice the difference between her and the others. Her door had been covered in a detailed painting of the Empire State building. It was done in dark colours; the entire door was covered.

Seeing his attention on the door she smiled, the awe he displayed warmed her. "That's my room," she remarked. "It took me a few nights to paint and a lot of begging to Alice. Esme was willing to let me do just about anything but Alice was worried about the way everything would look. It gets rather lonely at night with everything the same and nothing to do, they try to help but it doesn't always help."

He didn't say anything as a reply and she didn't turn back to see his reaction. She simply grasped the handle to her room and let them both in.

She released his hand disappointedly and scratched at the back of her head when she took in her room. "Sorry for the mess. I'm usually the only one in here," She laughed sheepishly as he observed the clothes, papers, and the books that covered nearly every surface. "I move things round a lot and sometimes get too into my stuff to actually put anything away."

Moving at human pace, she grabbed some things for a shower and held them to her chest. Embry started at the sight of objects seemingly moving on their own through the air and then disappeared slowly as she held them to her chest.

"I'm going to shower, don't be afraid to touch anything," Reyna told him seriously. "Please don't go anywhere."
