Chapter 13-Expectations

OSCAR'S LEGS MOVED INVOLUNTARILY, although he didn't object this time. He wanted-no, needed-to be as close to Bailey as he could be. A part of him deep down worried how she'd react to when he told her about the Marking process, but his thoughts were cast away when she tipped her head up to his.

I tipped my head up to meet Oscar's lips.

My eyes shut, and when his lips met mine, my whole body reacted. I had never had a kiss with someone-not even with Xavier, who I had once thought I'd marry-that made all the nerves in my body implode upon contact. My hands twisted in his shirt, and my spine was as taut as piano wire. I was not expecting this.
I was the first to pull back-even if I didn't want to, though I also didn't want to suffocate- and Oscar stumbled forward a little, causing me to smirk. Clearly our kiss had the same affect on him as it did me.

"Do you believe me?" His voice was breathy as he spoke.

"About my undeniable attraction for you, definitely. The werewolf thing? You have to believe me when I say that I don't. It's kind of a hard thing to process, and while there's a part of me telling me I should believe you, I still… can't. Not yet, at least." I responded.

"What if I prove it to you?" He held me captive in his gaze.

"Okay," I whispered. I was nervous, wondering if what he said was true, and waiting for my brother to pop out of the bushes and tell me that I just got pranked. But the look on Oscar's face… the true sincerity. If this was fake, I'd seriously recommend an acting career to him-then I'd kill him.

"Follow me, then." Oscar seemed nervous, too.

"Okay," I answered as if something else gripped my mind, and allowed him to take his hand in mine and lead us toward the forest.

He led me into the greenery, his eyes flashing brighter the further we went. The uncertainty of the situation scared me, but I think what I was going through would scare anyone-even the most diehard paranormal fans.

It's not that I was scared of Oscar-I certainly wasn't. I was scared of what he could be if what he was telling me was true.

Oscar stopped in front of an old knotted tree that was hunched over slightly to create shade on the dusty forest floor. He lifted his fingers up to trace the wood, then turned around to face his Mate. Bailey stood there, wide-eyed with a curious tilt to her head.

Oscar swore to himself he'd be careful around her as his wolf. He knew that in his more primal state, he wouldn't be able to control his lust for his Mate as well as he can as a human-and even then, it's not a good as he wished it could be.

"Get ready," he glanced at Bailey, who nodded. Although he meant the warning more for himself.

I nodded, the breathing hitched in my throat. My eyes widened slightly as I heard loud cracking, so I whipped around to look for the source of the horrible noise. I soon realized it came from Oscar.

I turned slowly back around, heart thumping more wildly with each inch that I moved. Oscar was gone.

"O-Oscar?" I called out. I had never felt more vulnerable or terrified than I ever had before. "I swear to God, if you left me out he-"

A wolf stepped out of the undergrowth, it's large head lifting to meet my gaze. Those eyes of his, the yellow...

"Oscar?"

Author's note: the only reason Bailey went with Oscar into the woods was because of the Luna and Alpha connection. She wouldn't have normally just went into the woods with a guy she met the other day.
