📍Chapter 19📍
"Gentlemen, I think this is enough for today. You can send your final work through my secretary, then I'll review it and give you feedback next week."
It was one o'clock in the afternoon and I was already starving. Moreover, I had an annoying headache because of lack of sleep. I dismissed everyone and sent Ella to reschedule another meeting I had this afternoon. I seriously needed some pain killers. Not to mention the food. Then an idea came into my mind.
I picked up the phone and dialed the number. It rang thrice before she answered;
"Leon, is something wrong?" Came her voice which was unable to hide the surprise.
"No, nothing. Are you home?"
"Yes, where else would I be?"
"Good because I need you to bring food for me." She was silent for a moment and I started to wonder if she had hung up. But she finally responded.
"I would, but everything is finished here. Don't have somewhere you could go for lunch?"
"Yes, but I have a headache and I was wondering if Stephanie could make me that soup she always does when I have headaches." I think I heard her snort before her next words.
"The problem is, she is not here. She went to buy some groceries."
"Then can you make it for me?"
"I...."
"I'll instruct you, don't worry."
This is pure torture.
Now I'm going to cook for Leon when I can't barely make a toast without burning it? My thoughts are interrupted when I hear Leon's voice who hasn't stopped telling me how I'm supposed to make the damn soup.
God doesn't he know something called painkiller, instead of interrupting my peace?
I did as I was told, cut, chopped, grinded ingredients, ignoring the pungent smell they created. I put them in boiling water and I waited. It would take 30 min. That's too much. Maybe I could resume my drawing while waiting. Deciding that it was the best thing to do. I sat down on one of the chairs besides the counter and gave my full attention to my sketch.
Yes I knew how to draw. It was one of my hidden talents.
Some time later, I was brought back by the smell of something burning. Must be the neighbors. But wait....the soup.
I leaped out of the chair and went to the stove. I wasn't even surprised that I had burnt it. Is that even possible? Well the only thing left in the dish, were the weird grasses or whatever that was. And he chose that moment specially to call me.
"Are you done yet? 45 min have elapsed." That explains this whole situation.
"Uh yes. I will bring it to you right away."
"Good. I sent my driver there to pick you up. When you are done, he will drive you here."
With nothing else to do, I poured cold water in a bowl and added the ingredients so that it looks like a normal soup. Expect that this one was not hot and probably tasteless. Still, I put the bowl in a bag and headed outside. I greeted the driver whose name was Peter and together we headed to Smith's design.
🎗🎗🎗
It has never occurred to me that I was living with a filthy rich man, until I saw this building. The building itself made me wonder if I was in tomorrow's land. It was very tall, probably a hundred or more floors, and I think it was built in pure silver because it shone brightly in the sunlight. The big, bold SMITH'S DESIGN CO. hung at the top in white.
Peter opened the door for me as I got out, I grabbed the bag and headed to the building.
I immediately felt out of place.
Every human being in here could be classified as a model, whether male or female. From the hairstyle to the total outfit. Is beauty and hotness a criteria they consider when employing these people?
A blonde tall girl approached and asked me who I was looking for. I guess it was clear that I was staring at them.
"Uh - no one. I was actually going to see my husband." I was expecting her to show me the way but I immediately remembered that I'm supposed to know this place. I excused myself before heading to the elevator. Luckily, I was the only one in it. Then came the hard part. To know which floor his office was. I closed my eyes and I was about to press a random button, when a guy entered.
"Hello, Mrs. Smith."
"Hello to you too."
"It's Ben." For a moment I thought he wasn't talking to me but when I turned he was looking at me.
"What?"
"I'm used to you asking everyone their names even though we have told them to you countless times. So we have to present ourselves again and again."
"I'm sorry, Ben." He was completely taken back by the fact that I said his name.
"Since you are going to see the boss, I'll let you go first." He gave me a genuine smile before punching 50. You are my savior right now.
When we reached the 50th floor, I got out and waved at him. I approached a young lady sitting in front of a desk which clearly showed she was the secretary with the pile of papers on her desk.
"Hello, is Leon in?" That is when she snapped her head up and she froze.
"Umh... Yes ma'am. He is in his office now."
"Thank you." I started walking towards the large glass doors. I knocked and heard a faint 'come in' and I opened them.
Damn this man loved black. Each and everything in this office was black, except for the silver windows. He was on the phone when I entered. He motioned me to come in and I sat down. After ending the call, he asked for the soup. I carefully removed the bowl and a spoon and I handed it to him.
He took a spoonful of the supposed soup and drank it. Instantly, his face showed a mixture of emotions. But I managed to identify one as shock. He looked at me for a couple of minutes while I fidgeted with my fingers, before placing the soup down. He got up and said:
"You know what, let's go get that lunch you were talking about."
Talk about being embarrassed!.
