Ashley

When I heard the familiar sound of his boots colliding on the floor path I turned and looked towards his direction. I saw his black trench coat and a mop of brown hair fizzled out in all direction, a face of confusion and beautiful pink lips. His eyes moved in every direction looking for me. Out of impulse I rushed towards him right into his arms. My force allowed him to tilt back a little but he catch his balance and wrapped his arms around me. Tears was still falling from my eyes as I buried my face into his chest. I think I may have flooded the hospital by now. The familiar sent of his deodorant fills my nostrils and I found a piece of tranquility. I could hear the beating of his heart at a very fast pace.

"What happened?" He asked after a while as he wrapped one of his arms around me and the other in my hair giving me the comfort I needed.

"It's Matt!" I cried and snuggled further into his arms. I'm happy that I have him with me. I think our mistake was a beautiful one. Things can be complicated at times but it's something we might be able to fix if we talked. I would rather not be anywhere else but in Nathan arms. These are the arms I want wrapped around me,protecting me.

"Who's Matt?" He asked. I could feel the movement of his lips as he placed his chin on top of my head. I don't want to break this hug apart. I want him to hug me forever.

"He's He's like my brother. I love him so much Nathan. I can't lose him."

"What do you mean? Why do you asked me here.?"

"To do me that favour you owed me.?

"Yes what is it?"

"The doctor need two hundred thousand down payment. Please help me out.?" I feel him stiffened and I pulled away. I pulled away from him as I used the back of my hands to wipe my the tears away. He gave me a handkerchief. I know that I looked like a complete mess right now but I don't care. I just want Matt to be ok. I wan to play video games and Lego with him again.

"Please I will do anything." I begged. I look around if I saw Lisa but I didn't saw her. I guess she was still at the room where Matt is.

"I never said I wasn't going to do it. I once told you that I would do anything for you now that time has come. I will write a cheque." He pulled out his cheque book from his coat and write number on it. Then he handed it to me.

"Thank you. Thank you so much." I said as I hugged him again. He pulled me into his arms and kissed me on my forehead. I closed my eyes as I listen to the beating of his heart. I then heard Jai and I looked up.

"Ashley is everything okay with you" he asked with a worried expression on his face.

"Yea I'm fine." I nodd. I saw Lisa in the far end and I let go of Nathan and started walking towards her she looked like she was the living dead.

"Lisa" I called her and she looked up. She started running. She run right into Jai arms. I was confused as to what was happening and so was Jai. He hold his arms out not knowing what to do with them. I saw Nate whispered into his ears and he pulled Lisa in for a hug.

"I'm going to find the doctor." I told them.

"I will come with you." Nate said reaching for my hand.

"So tell me about Matt?" He questioned.

"He's funny ,cute, sweet. He's the nicest kid I ever known and I know for sure he will kick your ass in those video games you have at home." I smiled while talking about Matt.

Nathan chuckled. It was loud enough to fill the silent walk way. "Really? I would like to know him."

"There he is." I pointed through the little window on the door of Matt room.

"Gosh he looks awful. I can't looked at him like that." Nathan replied and we walked away to go to the doctor's office. After another minute of walking we come to an Office where I saw Dr. Sam Lee Hong written in bold letters. I was too busy crying earlier that I didn't noticed. I knocked on the door and waited for him to tell us to enter.

"Here I have the money." I said as I placed the cheque infront of it. He looked at it then he picks it up examining it.

"Why didn't you prep the boy for surgery?" Nate asked.

"As I told her" he pointed towards me "we need a down payment."

"So you would rather let the boy die?" His tone let me know that he was angry. He didn't even know Matt so why is he getting so angry.

"It's hospital policy."

"Bullshit." Nathan yelled.

"Down payment or no surgery. Hospital policy." He repeated. That's a fucking terrible hospital policy.

"I donate money to this hospitality every year and your telling me with all the donation you got from private investors and other organisation you wouldn't used your conscience to save a life."

"That's what we do everyday. We tried and save lives." Nathan pulled the cheque from his grasp and ripped it in two. I feel my heart ripped with that paper.

"Sir."

"Mr. Nathan Christie." Nate corrected him. The doctor eyes widen when he heard his name. His eyes moved towards me but I couldn't say a thing. I just have to watched the exchanged that was happening between the two.

"I will pay for the surgery. I will pay for everything and make sure he got the best doctors, best surgeons , best nurses. Make sure he get the best of everything and most importantly make sure you saved his life." Nathan said as he reached for my hand and hold onto it.

"We have to run some more test and then tomorrow we will prep him for surgery."

We left his office.

"What was that?" I asked.

"I can't believed people are that cruel." When we reached back to Lisa and Jai I saw her drinking a bottle of water.

"The nurse said we can go home. I should come back tomorrow. I don't want to go. I want to be at his side."

"Come on." I pulled her up. We are going to need rest for tomorrow. I realized Lisa still doesn't know that Nate will pay for Matt Surgery.

We've agreed that I will take Lisa home and stayed with her for the night.

"Have you eaten already?" Nate voice blasted through the phone. He was the one you woke me because he won't stop ringing the phone until I answered.

"Yes." I lied. My eye's were swollen and puff and my head was killing me.

"Are you lying to me?"

"No I'm not. I need to get ready."

"Okay. I will see you after I leave the office."

"Okay see yah bye." I then ended the call.

I walked into the living to see if Lisa have woken. She went into Matt room last night to sleep. She just wanted to feel this connect with him. As much as I wanted to stay in there as well I couldn't. It was just too depressing for me. I never felt a pain like this ever since William. Not even the heartbreak of Joel didn't hurt this much. I feel like I'm connected to him in some ways. I don't know how or why but I felt a strong connection.

Lisa was in Matt room holding Mr. Bunny in her arms. A teddy bear that Matt love's so much. I miss hearing his laughter throughout the house. I miss hearing him asking about my day. I miss us playing video games. I miss him running into my arms. I missed everything about him. Thinking about him , about every fun we had together brings tears to my eyes again. This hurts so much. I washed my face and made breakfast, Scrambled eggs , bacon and coffee then I woke Lisa. She looked like a complete mess like she was dragged through hell and back. Her eyes was puffy and red and I realized that she's been crying all night. I reached my hand on her shoulder and comfort her. Then I get painkillers from the cabinet and handed them to her.

"So you and Jai?" I asked after she swallowed the pill. I just wanted to lighten the mood because this is depressing.

All night Lisa have been watching videos with Matthew and the more she cried. I had to turn off the television and told her to go sleep.

"No nothing of that sort." She shook her head.

"So what was that running into his arms. I know what I saw."

"I just wanted comfort and in that moment I saw him and that was my immediate reaction. I met him the night of the charity event and then when you ran away he came to the restaurant asking for you."

"Oh"

"I let him pay a dollar for every question he asked. Let's just say I got a hundred dollar tip from him and he still didn't get the answer he wanted."

I laughed "clever."

"Yea I guess."

"Do you like him.?"

"I don't know. I think I do he's funny, sweet and kind but I don't think he want a relationship."

"We need to go to the hospital in an hour. They have some paperwork that they need you to sign?"

"Why? Ashley is Matthew dead?" She starts to cry again. "My parents now my brother. What kind of sin have I commit."

"Lisa calm down. Matt is going to do surgery today. I take the call while you were sleeping."

"What? How? I don't have the money."

"Let's just say someone wants to help us." I don't know if I should have told her that, that someone is Nate. I don't know if Nate would want me to. She just have to pray that this surgery will go well.

Hospitals are depressing. Everything here is depressing. The smell of blood. The sight of sore foots. The coughing which lets bacteria in the air. The man with his arms turn backwards because it was broken so bad. And the family that has been rushed to the ICU because their car fell over a ditch. The screams that escaped the little boy mouth was enough to kill me. I need to take a break. I rushed outside getting some fresh hair which was not filled with blood, coughs, disinfectant and cries.

"Want one?" I heard a man voice and I turned to the direction. He outstretched a box of cigarettes raising his eyebrows. He was in a suit and his grey hair was tossled in all direction. He takes a puff of the cigar in his hand. He cleared his throat.

"Oh , umm sure." I pulled one from the box and he lit it. I take a puff then I released and watched as the fumes filled the air around me. One cigar won't hurt right?

"It's my daughter. I told her to left that scumbag that she's with but she won't listen. Everytime I saw bruises on her hand she tried to cover it up and cover for him. Saying Daddy he loves me and he's the father of my child. But she thinks I don't like him. Heck I don't him. Who like an asshole who is beating their daughter? And now she's in the hospital unconscious because of him. I'm going to fucking kill him!" He yelled squeezing the lit cigar in his hand.

"That's terrible you can't stay in a relationship because of your child. It's only healthy to leave the relationship and go with your child." I said to him as he was looking at me to agree with him. But that is really terrible. How could one be so cruel to the person they are having sex with. The one who have there child.

"That's what I keep telling her."

"I say no to violence against women."

"I don't know what I would do. She's my only daughter and she's my wife favorite. I mean she loves our boys as well but she loves her more."

"Where is your wife." I asked out of curiosity.

"She's inside with her. She's been crying all morning and doesn't want to eat. I told Tori to left that boyfriend of hers but god damit she just doesn't listen. Such a stubborn child."

"I'm sorry to hear. I really hope she recovers" I realized that the cigar in my hand was in its last so I crushed it beneath my feet. "I have to go."

Lisa needs me now. I heard him mumbled something about going in to see his daughter and bringing something for his wife to eat. I saw Lisa sitting with the paper in her hand. Wanting to sign but scared to.

"What is it?" I asked and she shift looking at me.

"They want me to sign so if he die under the knife it's won't seems like there fault."

"Lisa this is what you wanted all those years. If he doesn't do it he will die but if he doesn't then he have a better chance of surviving."

"You right. I will just have to put my faith in God." She sign the paper and stand. Just as we walked off to give in the signed paperwork. We see the doctor.

"Have you signed Mr. Scott?"

"Yes I have" Lisa handed the paperwork to him.

"Your brother have woken. You can go see him now and then we will prepare him for surgery."

"And your just telling us now!" I asked. We both rushed to his room and the nurse stops us giving us two blue scrubs to put on over our clothes.

"Matt." Lisa called and rushed over towards him, hugging him.

"Hey bud." I said from the other side of the bed. He had a white face mask over his face.

"Hey Lisa. Hey Aunty. I think I have bed sores already."

"It's only been a day Matt." I laughed.

"Well it feels like forever."

"Matt your going to do your surgery today." His eyes became wide looking at us as if he were surprised or happy. I couldn't quite decipher.

"Did you find the money?"

"Don't worry about that. Worry about kicking my ass in that video game." He laughed then he coughed.

"I love both of you so much."

"We love you too."

"Sister please stop crying. I will be fine."

"Matt-" Lisa utter

"Please stop or you will make me cry."

"It's time for you to go." A nurse who we didn't realize came in said to us. I hugged him and placed a kiss on him forehead.

"Be strong for me." I whispered in his ear and the moment I reached the door tears started to flow from my eyes. Matt is a fighter. I know he will pull through.

Ten hours and not a word. I have been pacing back and forth. Ten fucking hour's waiting and not a word about Matt condition and if the surgery is going well. Why do they have to torcher us like this.

"When mom and dad came home from the hospital with Matthew he was just so tiny and when mom told me to hold him I was so scared. But dad outstretched my hands and mom placed Matt in my arms and I hugged him. I fell in love with him. They smiled and said meet your little brother and it's your job to protect him."

"Lisa, Ashley." Someone called out name. I looked up immediately hoping it's the doctor but it wasn't him. It was the gang Tyler and Duran.

"Guys?" I looked up in confused and walked over to us. Giving us a hugged.

"Lisa text us earlier explaining why she wasn't at work." Duran explained.

"We are here to show our support."

"We are very sad to hear about Matt Lisa. We have been praying all day for him and for your strength to pull through this." Tyler spoke.

"Never knew you were holy Ty. I laughed.

"Shut up."

"Here." Duran gave both of us a cup of coffee. I looked at my phone and it was 9pm. And I still haven't heard a word. They should have someone communicating with us. We were now on the fifth floor waiting.

"Do you need anything to eat?" I got a text from Nate.

"Yes please. I haven't eaten since breakfast. We are on the fifth floor." I type a quick reply.

Nate and Jai arrived ten minutes later. Nate handed me two burgers and I give Lisa one. We are so quickly that it's seems if we stayed another minute without food we would die.

"Look at this." Ty called to us. He was looking out the window. We all walked up to the window. It was all of Matthew school. The students from his class was at the front and the waved some florocent light it the air. I saw a poster reading ' We are here for you Matt.' Tears started to fall from our eyes again as we see the sweet gesture.

"Miss Lisa Scott.?" The doctor came out calling.

"Yes."

"A word please." And Lisa walked up to him holding her hands together nervously. I watched as he talked to her and Lisa broke down in tears.

"We are sorry for your lost." I heard as I rushed towards her. She fell to the floor and I fell holding onto her.

"Matthew is dead." She cried into my shoulder. This can't be real. This has to be a dream. I started to cried.

"Your lying right." I stand looking at the doctor as Jai rushed over holding Lisa.

"Why would we lie about such thing.? The heart transplant was successful but he's not responding. We have been trying for the last hour to get a pulse but we didn't."

"Doctor Lee you need to see this now!" One of his assistant rushed out of the room. Her gloves were bloody. Doctor Lee excused himself and rushed towards her. I rushed behind him because if it's about Matthew then I need to find out.

"Yes Doctor Smith." Dr. Lee asked.

"He was laying here for ten minutes exact and as I was about to pulled down the machines we I heard the Machine. His heart is beating. He's alive."

"That's a miracle. I watched him die."

"God's not ready for him."

"Matthew is alive!" I screamed and they just noticed that I was in the operating theatre.

"You can't be in here. Someone get her out.?" Doctor Lee screamed.

I rushed towards the crew. Lisa was still crying in Jai arms and everyone looked towards me.

"Matt is alive." I screamed. Everyone couldn't contain there excitement and Nate pulled me into his arms and fell a tear fall on my forehead and I realized that he has been crying. Everyone has been crying.

We all walked to the window and watched his schoolmates with the lights.

So things have take a turn. Matt is still with us.

But why do Ashley love Matt so much..

Jai and Lisa .. what???? Do you ship them..??
