It was all to unfamiliar to Keith, being on the ice with people all around him. It made him shiver even with the five layers of clothing he wore to keep warm. "I don't feel so well," He grumbled with a tightly knit frown on his forehead that made his thick eyebrows seem like a little bug on his face.

He looked over his shoulder to see Lance standing behind him with a gentle smile on his face, "You never feel well when you leave your dusty old flower shop. You just need to get out and experience the world Keith," he stated as he maneuvered his way around Keith in order to step onto the ice with his skates. His hands were held out to his sides to keep himself steady as he turned around to look at Keith with inviting blue eyes that made him feel safe to look at.

He held his hand out to Keith and smiled gently, "Coming, samurai?" He asked with a small bit of laughter.

Keith nervously looked at the couples on the pond with them holding hands. They were all so happy as the man kept his hands on his girl's waist as he gently guided her across the ice. If he were to take Lance's hand they would be like all the other couples out here, holding hands as they skated. The thought of it made him feel lightheaded. He was afraid of falling for the taller man and surely holding hands as they skated under a sky full of stars would trigger a spark between them that Keith never wanted to feel.

He shook his head and backed away slightly, "I can't s-skate," He mumbled as he felt his face heating up in embarrassment and fear. His purple eyes must have looked terrified from Lance's viewpoint because the tanned man frowned in worry at his shorter friend. "I never learned how when I was a kid so I don't want to make you worry about me."

Keith was about to lean over and untie his skates in order to run away from this new obstacle in his way but he was stopped by Lance as the blue eyed man smiled and let out a small yet comforting laugh. "Oh come on Keith, you're teaching me how to play the piano," He started as he adjusted his scarf slightly so that the red fabric covered his chin. "I can at least teach you how to do something as small as skating."

Keith felt like turning away to stumble off to their car they came in as he stared at Lance. Why was he so nice when Keith needed him to be a jerk? He wanted Lance to do his stupid little mocking fit where he would make fun of Keith and get him annoyed enough to leave. It would have been so much easier to turn away if only Lance hadn't been so... so kind to Keith.

Keith looked down at Lance's outstretched hand before he looked out into the ice to see those cute little couples smiling as they skated by. He let out a small and reluctant sigh as he lifted his gloved hand up to gently brush against Lance's finger tips before he pulled away slightly to look at Lance for permission to grab onto his hand. When he met Lance's blue eyes however, he didn't expect them to look so warm and loving. They were almost like all the other men's eyes on the ice who had a girl at their side and Keith felt his cheeks turn cherry red as he quickly looked away in order to reevaluate what he was doing.

If he took Lance's hand while the Cuban saxophone player stared at him the way he was then there was almost a one hundred percent chance that Keith was going to fall for his student. He didn't want to fall for someone like Lance, not after all the failure and abandonment he suffered through all his life. He didn't want to let Lance share his baggage with him but if he took his hand now then everything in his life he dealt with would be out there for Lance to carry as a burden too.

Maybe he was selfish to reach out to take Lance's hand while the brunette looked at him so gently but he knew deep down that he needed someone to help him with the problems he had that weighed his shoulders down like a ton of bricks. "O-Okay," Keith stuttered as he took a firm hold of Lance's hand and felt the man pull him out onto the ice carefully where Keith nearly slipped instantly.

Lance instinctively placed his hand on Keith's back to steady him as he tightened his grip on Keith's hand. "Whoa, take it easy. Wouldn't want you to fall and injure yourself," he stated as he managed to steady Keith on his two skates before he began to push him alongside him. "You have to think of it as sliding," Lance pointed out as Keith tried not to have a panic attack at the touch of Lance's hand on his lower back.

They really did look like all the other couples out here except Keith looked way more terrified than the girls as he held on tight to Lance with one hand while the other was trying to keep him balances by flapping about in the air. "I like land," He stated with a shaky voice as he felt his heart rate picking up at alarming speeds. "I like land a lot. Can we just go back because I'm really a-"

Without meaning to, Keith felt his skate suddenly slip out from under him and he automatically clung to Lances waist with his eyes squeezed shut out of fear that he was going to injure himself on the hard surface below. Lance nearly fell backward as he tried to steady himself and Keith on the ice earning them a few weird glances from the other skaters. Keith felt so embarrassed by his actions he actually felt like letting go and knocking himself out by falling down face first was the only option left in his life.

Lance gently placed one hand on Keith's upper back while the other was gently rubbing the back of Keith's head as if he were a little kid in need of comfort. "Hey, you're fine. Everyone slips on their first try Keith, it isn't something you should be ashamed of you know."

His words, they were so reassuring and gentle to Keith. He felt his embarrassment slowly drain from his body as he looked up to meet Lance's eyes from where he stood clamped onto the lanky man like some sort of flea on a dog. He was about to say something but he found himself at loss for words as he noticed the night sky above them. It was so clear that Keith could see each and every little twinkle above them like some sort of movie. It was so breathtaking that he could barely even remember where he was for a moment.

He wanted to be able to stretch his hand way up high to pull one of those twinkling lights from it's place in order to just gawk at as he held it within his palms. He wanted to feel its warmth against his skin and the joy it would give him. He didn't know it at the time but he already had his star that he wanted to hold within his palms; it was actually in his arms.

His star was a tall man from Cuba with deep blue eyes that reminded Keith of the sandy beaches of Texas where his father used to take him before he left Keith at school wondering when his father was going to pick him up. His little freckles that were barely on Lance's tanned face were the constellations above and his brown hair was like silk sheets. His touch was warm and soft, barely noticeable yet one couldn't ignore it. His smile was always so radiant that it really felt like the sun Keith would see every morning that made him feel content with his bland little life he led.

Everything about Lance made him Keith's star.

Lance helped Keith stand upright as he slipped his fingers into his and held onto Keith's hand gently, "Want to try it again?" He asked with a playful tone in his voice as he brought Keith's concentration away from the sky above them.

Keith felt himself smile slowly at Lance as he nodded. "Let's."

This next one is just a quick little thing that doesn't have an AU style.

Keith was so overwhelmed and so fast too that he felt his mind swimming in uneasiness as he stood closely next to Lance as they walked through the busy streets of New Orleans. There were street performers trying to captivate the families passing by with their rehearsed musical and dance numbers all for a few coins to be tossed their way. Keith found all of this weird and out of the ordinary, unlike the countryside where he was from, New Orleans was bustling with all sorts of eccentric and loud people along with jazzy music that filled the streets with happy people.

"It's amazing isn't it Keith?" Lance asked with a wide smile plastered across his tanned face. He was wearing a blue hat that protected his eyes from the powerful rays of the sun glaring down at them in the early summer day.

Keith felt extremely uncomfortable as he pressed against Lance's side for the comforting feeling of having his boyfriend there with him during all this excitement. "I guess," Keith began as he took a firm hold of Lance's arm and closed the little bit of space that remained between them. "It's uh... it's different," Keith offered with a sheepish grin showing his discomfort.

Lance looked down at Keith and smiled softly before his slid his hat off and placed it over Keith's mullet he loved dearly. "Just pull it down to cover your eyes then, I'll be here guiding you through the streets so you won't have to feel so uncomfortable."

Keith was blessed with such an amazing person in his life he couldn't even begin to describe how much he liked the tall man walking him through the crowded sidewalks where tourists took pictures in front of the Andrew Jackson statue (can't do that anymore smfh). He loved the way Lance would act whenever he found something that spiked his interest; he would be like a little child all over again and start getting excited over something as lame as a Gameboy and his eyes would sparkle much like that of a moon reflecting off the smooth waters of lake Pontchartrain.

His voice was as sweet as candy and his personality could've made anyone swoon (not really but Keith thought so). He was literally the embodiment of all things good in this world sort of like an angel that happened to trip right out of heaven and land at Keith's side. "T-Thanks," Keith mumbled as he tugged the baseball cap down to cover his eyes.

Lance led the way past Jackson square and up towards the only steamboat left in Louisiana. He'd been wanting to go on a ride on the Natchez with Keith for a while and now was his chance if only he hasn't gotten so distracted by a young woman in a fortune teller getup with the stupid little clichéd fortune telling crystal ball and tarot cards on her purple table.

Her green eyes locked onto Lance as she caught him eyeing her table and a coy smile sprawled itself across her scaly looking skin. "I can sense a great amount of curiosity in you, do you wish to see what services I offer young man?"

Keith looked up to see the scam artist and he wrinkled his nose up slightly as he felt Lance nod enthusiastically, "Yes!" The man exclaimed as he practically dragged a very bilious looking man along with him. "I've always believed in this sort of stuff ever since I was a child, it's so amazing!" Lance announced as he took on a very excited look.

Keith sat next to the man and folded his arms over his chest with a frown, "You mean you believed in hoaxes?" He chided.

The reptilian looking woman glared at Keith before she softened her gaze on Lance, "I can feel your spiritual power, it's so great and-"

"And fake."

"Keith."

The woman ignored the non believer and placed Lance's hands on the crystal ball and began to play her stupid games. "I'll allow you to speak with a loved one who has moved on, just allow me to make the connection," once she she said this she began to chant bizarre things in what Keith believed was either Latin or Creole French. Either way, it sounded like some sort of freaky alien language.

Lance was practically shivering in joy as he bit his lip and tried to hold still. "Oh my god Keith, I can feel the energy in the ball connecting with me!" He said in excitement.

Keith scoffed slightly as he crossed his legs and pouted even more. "It's just a stupid crystal ball Lance, actually, it's probably a glass ball. There isn't anything even remotely-"

"Ah, yes!" The woman interrupted Keith as she groaned as if she were doing something that strained her. "I can feel her, your grandmother, Nina!" Her green eyes rolled back causing a shiver to go down Keith's spine. "She's saying '¡Eres un chico estúpidamente estúpido!'"

Keith leaned back a little bit with his eyes wider than a damn beignet. He was about to say something when Lance began tearing up, "Oh my abuela always said that to me," he gasped then leaned forward, "tell me what else she's saying!"

The hoax master herself began to look at Lance with a funny expression on her face, "She's angry, so very angry with you Lance. Are you sure you wish to know what she is saying to you?"

"Yes, I will listen to anything mí abuela says! She was a wise woman and I loved her so much!" Lance persisted.

Keith held his hands up and began to express his concerns, "Wait wait, hold on," he frowned at the woman, "so all you have to do is chant a few words and all the sudden you can connect to Nani like a Bluetooth speaker?" Keith's voice cracked slightly as he looked between his boyfriend and the scam artist. "If that's how it works then you may as well connect my ears to my ass because all I'm hearing is bullshit!"

The woman looked at Keith and then at Lance, "She's talking about your boyfriend here, are you positive you want me to repeat her words?" She asked curiously.

Keith suddenly felt his curiosity beginning to take over; what if this wasn't really a hoax? What if this was the real grandmother Nani who Lance loved? Keith needed to know if she liked him. "Yes," Lance nodded in determination.

The woman took a deep breath before she began shouting in perfect Spanish, "¿Cómo te atreves a salir con otro hombre, no quieres hijos, qué hay de la herencia de McClain? ¡No puedes tener hijos de McClain sin una esposa española!"

Keith was at loss for words, he wanted to cry. Grandma Nani must've been so excited to know about her grandson dating Keith because of how much she was saying. Keith looked at Lance with tears in his eyes, "Does your grandmother like me Lance?" He asked with hopefulness in his purple eyes.

Lance's face twitched slightly as he stared down at his boyfriend. He wasn't sure whether to tell the truth or not but he was trying to keep himself from busting out in a laughing fit. You see, Lance knew this was a hoax, he actually paid the woman to do this so he could get Keith to believe in the supernatural and so the woman had been insulting him the entire time in Spanish. The real show was right after Lance's next line.

"She loves you Keith," he said with a strained tone as he tried to keep himself from laughing. "She even has a gift for you, she told the woman you were to cone here at this very moment so Nani wants to give you something important."

Keith grabbed Lance's T-shirt in surprise as he fell into the trap, "I'll treasure anything grandma Nani gives to me Lance, I swear!"

"Good, here it is," Lance removed his hands from the glass ball as the scam artist pulled a green and blue hippo out from under the table.

The hippo was small yet large enough so that it would force Keith to carry around with both arms. It was the exact one he had been eyeing in the aquarium gift shop that he had been too quiet to ask Lance for. Keith's eyes began tearing up as he gratefully took the hippo in his arms and tried to keep himself from crying.

"T-Thank you g-grandma!" He whimpered.

Lance smiled softly as he wrapped his arms around his boyfriend and gave the scam artist a thumbs up. This date was a success.
