Janaan turned out to be so wrong about what she thought of the green eyed nerd. The girl was really outgoing, shy, innocent and very down to earth even though her father is very rich and well known in Greece. She likes reading and they have the same taste of books with Janaan which is Mystery/thriller and spiritual and many more things in common.
Her girls' names are Euphemia Lucy Demakins and Yvonne's full name is Yvonne Cornelia De LA Vega. They're both from Greece but they moved out to America because of College and because they always wanted their freedom.
Euphemia whose shortened name is Mia, lives in Corinth while Lia, Yvonne's shortened name lives in Athens. They both live in the same country but have never met each other.
Their freedom there was very little and they both like adventure, just like her. Their parents are well known there so everywhere they go to, they must have bodyguards or paparazzi hot on their tails which they hated with great passion. And having overprotective parents wasn't helping, even though Mia's parents aren't really protective of her but she didn't dove further into the matter. From what Janaan could see, she doesn't have the perfect relationship with her parents.
Then came where they're living, they've been living together in a hotel nearby ever since they met on their registration day. They hit it off and became friend in an instant but not after Lia causing some drama. They're still looking for apartment and Janaan offered them where they're staying, that they should check it if they have the one with two bedrooms and they said they will. She was really excited, hoping they'd find one.
Lia was studying law, 'cause what she found out about we females in India hurt her- they went to India for a tour with her parents- she found out that raping was the most common thing there. The females were always afraid to come out of their homes, to face another day. They're always insecure because the place is really dangerous and they're not taking any action which really hurt her and made her cry herself to sleep that day. She hated that people like her lived with fear and they can't do anything about it, it makes her heart break and Janaan also felt bad even though she has never gone to India.
The same people as her, are out there fighting for their rights, wanting to live freely but are forced to hide in their homes, not to pursue their careers, and not to continue schooling, even though they want to. She vowed that she'll help girls around the world to get their rights and that's what she's exactly putting effort to and looking forward to accomplish the dream.
And Mia, was forced to do it without her interest.
Her parents are well known lawyers in Greece even though her father also runs his grandfather's business. So they forced her into it which is what she was doing with great interest now. Lia was a great influence and Janaan is also one too even though they just met. She knew they'd make her parents' choice less forced and interested.
Janaan found out all about them when they sat down in the cafeteria, having being free at the same time but they're schedule was not the same as Mia's though it's only two different classes not the same but the rest are all the same time. Janaan was ecstatic having them as her friends and they are enough for her to finish the whole five years.
"Girls, I need to pray!" she scrunched her face, thinking if they have a mosque or any secluded place where she could pray. She really have to pray and she asked them with so much strenuousness.
"There is this place where I saw some Muslims praying last week when I was looking for the library." Mia gently replied, looking up from the book she has her nose in.
They already knew that she's a Muslim from Nigeria- which they find it hard to be believe with her fairly beautiful, tan natural skin. They kept gushing about how beautiful she is earlier when they all sat down in the cafeteria since they didn't get the chance to do it when there's a teacher in their class.
"Oh my Gawd! You're so beautiful Jaan. Your beauty drew me to you not the fake seat," Lia had said, laughing her mouth off.
"Yup, you're such a beauty but I can see you're a bit insecure with yourself," Mia narrowed her eyes, then laughed when Janaan moved uncomfortably.
Mia can be a handful when she's comfortable around people and she is already comfortable around them. She's also a trouble maker which Janaan found amusing because her face was the most innocent face Janaan has ever come across. They're happy faces are epidemic and she's liking it.
She just said thank you underneath her breath and then blush when they pinch her cheeks. She's getting really comfortable with them and knows she won't have problem with Fadila. She also have her circle of school friends but these girls in front of her can be more than Fadila to her if they are like this all the time. They are so blunt and carefree, which she likes in a person- they tell you when you're doing something wrong without caring whether they hurt you or not.
"Come and accompany me and then wait for me. You know I still don't know my way around here, so..." They all stood up at that.
"I like seeing you guys pray. It's amazing, how you communicate with your Lord!" Lia grinned, then linked her arms with Janaans' and Mia's.
Janaan performed her ablution and prayed where some Muslims were saying their prayers also. After praying, they walked back to the last class they have for the day which was English. The teacher walked in and introduce himself then dive in, without waiting for them to introduce their selves. Well, this is not high school, Janaan mumbled to herself.
Soon, the class was over and they strolled to the gate to wait for Hamal. The girls said they'll wait for her till Hamal comes before they call a cab or even walk back to the hotel then they'd come later to Janaan's apartment so that they can also search for one there.
"Honcho, I'm outside the gate," she said through the phone.
"Okay, I'm almost there, just a minute," he hung up after that.
"I hope he's also handsome!" Lia squealed, instead of Janaan to feel the possessive side of her waking up, she felt nothing. She knew Lia isn't a threat whatsoever.
"He's here!" Janaan whispered when she saw the rented car Hamal was using. As soon as he zoomed out of the car, Janaan's heart frissons at his sight, the sun slapping his skin and hair.
"OMG! You're really a bad person, Jaan. You didn't tell me he's drop dead handsome, with sideburns, chiseled nose, hard jaw, greyish/brownish eyes, high cheekbones and and hard chest with muscles. He has all my weakness, Jaan." Lia was gushing till he reached them.
Janaan also didn't notice that Hamal's eyes can be grey when the sunlight hit it, she just noticed it. Hamal is changing with each passing day as he grow up and he's turning more masculine and handsome which made Janaan proud and happy. And now, even Grecians girls are drooling at the sight of him.
"Hi!" He smiled at them but they were all staring at him like he's a piece of meat, even Mia.
"Uhm, Honcho, this is Mia and Lia!" Janaan chuckled and broke the awkward silence.
"Oh, hi." They grinned in unison before Janaan could talk, Mia beat her to it
"So you're the famous Honcho. Hamal Habib Malik huh?" She raised a brow, her grin never once writhing.
Hamal look amused then stole a glance at Janaan who was blushing furiously due to been caught talking about her brother to her friends.
"Yes, the one and only!" he cockily grinned, showing his straight white teeth and the side of his eyes crinkling at the end which show that it's a genuine smile.
"Nice meeting you, Honcho." Mia kidded before yawing her gaze to see what Lia is doing.
"Nice meeting you, HHM. I heard her said that earlier," she nudged at Janaan's shoulder. Janaan cursed at the girls for making her this embarrassed.
Hamal just chuckled before saying; "I really want to keep teasing you, little one, but I'm so hungry. We can catch up tomorrow!"
"Well, we're coming over to your apartment later, we want to find apartment also." Lia smiled.
"Wow, that's nice." He genuinely grinned, he knew they mean no harm to his little one and these are the kind of people she'll need at this stage of her life where her past was already a blur.
"Let's go, I can make something fast for you." Janaan bequest.
"Let's go to that restaurant." He antagonised, he was really hungry.
He didn't get to eat anything since those pancakes in the morning 'cause he was supposed to come back to school last week, he didn't and now he's paying for it. Some drawings really passed him and he has to ask his classmates to help him out.
"No, I'm not giving you a choice. Let's go, we're spending more time here," she sternly retorted with a quell look and he knew it was irrevocable. He slumped his shoulder.
She has totally forgotten about Mia and Lia watching them with mirth swimming in their eyes. They laughed when she looked startled as she pivoted to check where they are.
"We became invisible when Honcho came, so we try and act surreptitious." Lia mischievously grinned, seeing the spark between them, which they're obviously denying.
"Ooopsie...doopsie!" Janaan apologetically grinned.
"Well, we gotta go before Honcho here, eat our souls out." Mia laughed when he looked at her with fake horror.
"Bye, guys!" They all said in sync and chuckled in sync before they pivoted to the direction they're supposed to follow.
As soon as they reached their apartment after Janaan abridged how she met her new friends to Hamal in the car, Janaan placed her bag on the couch and remove the slippers by the door, she tied the dove hijab securely on her head before carrying an apron and slipped into the kitchen to make something fast for a whining Hamal who sat down on the wooden chair, looking at her every movement, intently.
It looks like magic to someone but not to Hamal, she immediately on the stove and start to cook but as soon as she started, she finished and he was less hungry by then, looking at her somehow made him feel contented. And now as she put the toasted sweet potato, topped with mashed avocado, slice strawberries, chia seeds and bee pollen, he drooled. It looks like she used a rivet.
Janaan was looking at Hamal as he kept on fretting the food she finished just some minutes back. Her heart thawed at the sight. She thank God that her father and mother taught her how to cook outside country foods, not only traditional. She smiled, looking at him, he looks like a bairn who was locked in a room for more than three days without food.
Not to gloat, but she knew she knows how to cook perfectly which she learned at the age of thirteen, when her mother will not even allow her in the kitchen but she'd sneak in with her father. Her father gladly taught her how to cook what he can, he was happy that his daughter was making effort to learn how to cook and want to let her depressed self behind.
"I need to change this outfit, it's not comfortable. Tell Fadila that I packed hers, it's in the oven, when she's back. Maybe I'll need some beauty sleep before I call Akira," she stood up from the table.
She didn't eat the toasted potato but she'll eat some later- she isn't hungry at the moment. The pancakes she took to school somehow satisfied her till now. Her father told her to call Akira when she's free.
"Aw, I know my Kira missed me." Hamal gushed making Janaan to throw a hot glare his way.
"Whatever!" She knew he was saying the truth so she relinquished. "I'm off!" She walked down the small corridor and slipped into her room.
After taking a short relaxing shower, she came out and wore one of her huge shirts- sky blue, cotton, and a pair of black leggings under. She get under the comforter- the whether was getting chillier day by day, and soon she fell asleep with Hamal's handkerchief next to her nose.
When she was at home, she hardly sleep because of the scary nightmares she's always having. S,o she avoided them by not sleeping but her best friend found out, he didn't leave her sight for a second at night and his parents are good with it. But after her best friend left, she'll take some sleeping pills before she could sleep, at a young age. With time rolling and rolling, she was able to sleep, mostly in the mornings or afternoons, not nights.
