Nine: Touring Massachusetts.
Cambridge Massachusetts, U.S.A
Thursday 06th September.
10:00am
Hamal couldn't wait for the next morning, so he kept on pacing, from his room to the bathroom. As soon as he said his Subh prayer, he sat down on his bed not knowing what to do again. He read Al-qur'an as he played it from his phone. He off it and went to take a long shower so that time could pass.
He came out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist and water rolling for his hard chest, down his flat v-shaped stomach. He doesn't have abs but he has muscles and toned, hard chest. He shakes the water from his hair before ambling to his wardrobe to pick out an outfit. He wants to look handsome for Janaan and he knows what to wear to make her swoon.
He picked out a dark grey cutton shirt and a black loose jeans. She loves grey, but not as much as she loves black.
He grinned at his appearance before taking his wallet and black jacket. He wants to dress with the bad boys' vibe that she likes. She said she loves bad boys even in stories and she loves jackets. Lastly, he picked a black sunglasses from his wardrobe.
Janaan awoke with a dazzling beautiful smile playing on her lips. It has been years, since she last slept like that- like a baby with zero worries. She was so thrilled about their touring. If you were to tell her that she'll be so happy about this tour or even coming to America 24hours back, she would've laughed at your face and say you're insane.
But now, she doesn't even want the year to finish. Hamal will leave her all alone when the year is over and she doesn't even want to think about it. Sooner or later, she'll have to face that but not now. She wants to enjoy every single drop of happiness she'll get from him.
She immediately stood up not after checking the alarm clock next to her bed, only to see that it was already 9:50am. She ran to the bathroom to take a short shower. She doesn't want to be late, he said she should be ready by ten so that they can have their breakfast by eleven then they'll be on their way.
Coming out of the bathroom, she checked the time once again to see it was already 10:09am. She chuckled lightly and mutter 'so much for taking a short shower' in a whisper. She looked at her face on the mirror when she was dressed in a simple Ruby Maxi Lunar Dress with bishop sleeves, subtle sheen fabric and a waist belt. She completed the look with a yellow dove hijab.
She smiled at her reflection on the mirror before adding kohl in her already midnight dark eyes. She looks happy and she knows she's happy. There is nothing she could do or use to trade Hamal. He's just the only person she could be miserable and childish in front of. Even in front of her parents, she has to act matured but not with Hamal. He has seen her at her weakest point.
Hugging him yesterday was wrong, they both knew it was wrong but they couldn't deter it even if they want to. They all missed each other, but they don't have it in them to do that again, no matter what. It was just that they've been distant for so long, and hugging him was the only way to make everything to feel so real.
They hold hands, which was not something they don't do. They do hug but now, they're matured and their parents told them that it was uncalled for as they are both adults. They should not do it again and they stopped. Even when some slanderous rumour was flowing in the family about them, they all act oblivion. Since then, Janaan disliked most of her family members, they are bestial- to her.
Some of them surmise her and they don't even try to hide it. The envy and hatred was shining boldly in their eyes. Hamal was always the one to threaten them when they do any of that to her. And he supports her when she said she'll not be going to the family meetings and they'd ditch it and do something fun.
She could never be angry at Hamal. Even after whatever he did to her, she was willing to give him his throne. He is the only one who could sit in her heart and even sleep on it. He stomped on it, yes, but she doesn't care anymore since he's back to repair it again. He's willing to correct and redirect what he did and she is more than glad give him the chance.
It's hard to wait around for something you know might never happen; but its harder to give up when you know it's everything you want. And she could not bring her heart nor her soul to give up on him. He's the best thing that has ever happened to her. She tried her very best in the past to get him back, but he was far gone to turn around and look at her, and it hurts her so bad.
Good things come to those who wait, greater things come to those who get on their feet and do anything to make it happen. And now, he doesn't have to try hard, she has already forgiven him. She only wants to be with him in every step she'll be taking in her first year before he graduates.
Life is like photography. You need the negatives to develop. That's what she learnt about life and photography. She takes picture and write some words of wisdom underneath each and every one of them- in her photo album.
She zoned out, she didn't hear Hamal calling her name. He knocked at her door, she blinked before walking to the door. Opening it, her heart did a little somersault before it stopped beating for a second.
His light brown eyes were looking at her intently with so many emotion moving in them but she could tell only one of them- admiration. She looks at his straight nose, then his plump peach lips, lastly, his beard. Her hands were itching to touch it and feel how it is but she hold onto her dress instead.
His jaw dropped on the floor when he looked at her- not literally. She looks so beautiful with her natural face, ruby gown- that looks hideous, but he knew better than to comment on that. He even like it when she's not showing her body, and that's exactly what she is doing every time he'll see her. It makes him happy that she didn't forget about his words of being another Man's wife in future.
"You were taking long, so I came to check on you," he blinked, coming out of his reverie first.
"Uhm, yeah. I was just coming out. Lemme get my bag and sandals," she grinned before skipping back into the room.
Hamal was looking at her in surprise, she's no more the quite girl he came to know some years back. She's back to her cheerful self. He is so happy that he was the one who could bring back her old self, from the thick shell she used around it. No one was able to walk there nor even knock at it. It was far from everyone's reach but him, he broke it and there is nothing or anyone that will make him do anything to bring the shell back.
"Honcho, let's go. I don't want to eat here, I can't wait to start touring all those beautiful views you post. All those cafés, restaurants, parks, and even Charles River if you'll take me." she grinned, giggling like a high school girl who's trying to talk to her crush but messing it up then end up grinning and giggling.
He smiled, he knew exactly where to take her to shut her mouth in awe. "Oh, I intend to, love." he grinned before holding his left brow with his thumb and forefinger- something they do as a promise.
Her heart did sort of, double somersault before racing like it was being chased by a hungry lion, when he said love and when he held his left brow. She was so happy that he didn't forget the little things about them. She then laughed, making Hamal to look at her like her brain was damaged or something like that.
Eyes shining with an unknown emotion to Hamal, he also smiled. Since when he left Nigeria- his first year, he stopped heaing her laughter- when he'll go back for holidays. Even with Aamal, her laughter and smiles are calculated. Her enthusiasm was as fake as his old Dior bag. He knows her more than she knew herself, she thought she knows how to hide her emotions, but Hamal was there to dig out each one of them.
She acts like an emotionless human or someone heartless but he knew she was hurting. There is something about her that even he doesn't know but he knew her too well for her to hide something. That was the one thing he doesn't know about her, albeit he was the one who brought her out of the depression she was in, at a very young age.
"Stop staring at me, will you?" she pursed her lips before bending down to tie her yellow sandal shoe.
"Well, well, well, little one is already bossy. Interesting!" he glared, feigning miffed.
"Will you shut up? Your voice is already making me dizzy and these sandals are making me dizzier," she hissed underneath her breath 'cause she very well know how much he hated been hissed at.
"Ya Hamal?" Fadila called groggily, peeking through the door to take a look at the two enemies. She looks puzzled, seeing the slight blush on Janaan's cheek but she thought it was due to embarrassment of something she doesn't know, so she brushed it off and looked at Hamal.
"What is it?" he is back to his dark self. Ever since what she did yesterday, he was angry at her and he's not willing to forgive her easily, most especially, because he doesn't want her to ask him whether she could go out with them.
"Uhm, can I eat those pancakes in the kitchen?" she asked moving uncomfortably.
Her cotton pajamas with a blue silk robe on top was shining- the yard was silky and shiny and the sun was hitting on it. Janaan raised her head to look at Fadila who was already looking at her with a questioning gaze and Janaan just shrugged, not wanting to tell her about her and Hamal for some unknown reasons.
"Yeah!" he answered before yawing his gaze from her to Janaan. "I'll be in the car," he said and walked out of their sight, down the small corridor.
"Bye!" she forced a small smile at Fadila before walking out of the apartment and down the corridor to the lift where Hamal was already waiting for her.
"That was rude you know," she looked up at him but he just shrugged.
"You know how much I hate disrespect," he mumbled after she didn't say anything to make a conversation, which means she's waiting for him to answer her or she'll not talk to him for the rest of the day.
"You're so what you are, Honcho," she sighed before leaning her head on the wall beside her.
*
"Where are we, Honcho?" Janaan asked with her brows scrunched.
"We're in 1 Central Wharf, Boston, New England Aquarium," he grinned before lacing their hands. "You'll like it so much, the building is intriguing, the whale watching will also get your attention more. It's just beautiful," they walked to the door and pay for their tickets.
They walked in and watch at everything inside the building with awe, especially Janaan who couldn't stop gushing about the fish. She'll laugh when Hamal makes any female sound like he's about to run away from the fish or when the fish looks like it'll come out from the aquarium.
"That was fun, Honcho!" she giggling, her straight white teeth on display. She looks so happy and it makes Hamal want to just pause this moment and live in it forever but he knew it was impossible. He just smiled at her and nod his head, agreeing.
"You have to see Museum of Fine Art Boston. It is the fifth largest museum is United States, it has about 450,000 works of art. It always have more than one million visitors a year," he kept on talking about the museum as they walk into the museum while she listened to him attentively. She loves history.
Some art works really caught her attention- The Tea which was very beautiful, The slave ship, The Sower, Grainstack (Sunset) it was her favorite since she loves sunset, Bocca Baciata and Water Lily Pond. She wanted to buy one but she couldn't afford it and she doesn't want to ask Hamal or her father for money.
"Those art works were so beautiful, Honcho. I want to come to their next exhibition, please." she made up her best puppy dog eyes.
"Okay!" he sighed before glaring at her. She's making him do what he hates. He hates coming to exhibitions and he has to make some reservations. He'll just see those celebrities that thinks that the whole world revolves around them with their noses on air.
"Stop glaring at me," she laughed before asking. "Where are we going next?" just when she asked the question, her stomach growled.
"You got your answer," he chuckled before leading her to the car. "We're going to Bartley's Burgers. That place will be your favorite place on earth, as from today."
"Let's go and see!"
After eating the best burger she has ever had in her life, they drove to Harvard Museum to see some art works where she bought one- for sunrise. She was so happy but tired at the same time, she still doesn't want to go back to their apartment, so he drove to the Coop- it has all the plethora of Harvard paraphernalia to offer, especially for the curious ones.
Janaan still didn't want to go back home, so they stopped at a small building that looks like a mosque then say their prayer before they took off again to Franklin Park Zoo which Hamal said that will be their last place to visit but she didn't agree they end up going to Harvard University itself to tour around it too.
