♯ ❝THERE WAS A SCREAM❞
⋆⋅ ━━━━ ‧ ༻✩༺ ‧ ━━━━ ⋅⋆

IT WAS AT THE MERE AGE OF TEN YEARS OLD that Maggie Hendrix' life completely turned around. A simple act that changed her life forever, creating a path to walk on that no matter what she could not avoid. Whatever road she took, full of hope was led to the same destination that left her bitter.

And maybe she was destined to walk a road full of struggles and defeats only to rise stronger than before with a skin of steel  or maybe she was destined for hardship and setbacks.

They feared the monster only forgetting they were the ones who created it.

Once upon a time the chesnut haired brunette full of innocence and jubilance faced the world in nothing more than bright colors, a place full of heroic knights and couragous heroes. Where dragons were slain in bedtime fairytales and princesses were saved from evil.

It was a calescent summer day, no clouds to block out the scorching sun and the only relief found in the small town Maggie Hendrix' lived was the small lake where most children spend their summer days.

The little brunette was always found near a source of water, it is where she truely felt at ease, with her legs swinging from the wooden dock. The way the breeze carresed her cheeks on a cool Autumn day and the lake was vacate. Only the sound of rustling leaves echoeing over the terrain as they dropped from the trees in the most graceful ways and painted the ground in refined hues of yellow, orange, and red.

Now however her little safe haven was full of blissfull children running around, screaming in joy when they jumped from the dock in the most silliest ways without a care in the world.

Little Maggie Hendrix was sitting at the edge of the lake, her feet placed in the cold water, her white sundress she was told to keep clean already dirtied by the grass while she watched a couple of the younger kids play gleefully in the water with her blonde friend Lily sitting beside her.

The happy scene that was painted at that exact moment however was not what was happening around them in reality with a war raging around them. They were one of the small blessed towns that weren't as much effected by the current events as most. The only sign that something was astray was the fact that some children had lost their father to the war as most men were urged to join the army and fight against the Germans leaving their families on their own.

Maggie was lucky enough that her father was unable to fight after a atrocious accident leaving the raven haired man in a wheelchair for the time being.

The sky, a brilliant azure blue was memorizing to watch, like an ocean of blues blend together to form the perfect color to paint the day brighter than it in reality was, or would be.

Maggie's chocolate eyes had a certain spark inside them, the innocence radiating out of them since she was born. The young girl that believed in heroes and knights in shinin' armor wanted nothing more than to be a hero herself. She wanted to have the world look up to her, to see her as this remarkable person everyone adored.

If she had only known that the world wasn't this pretty idea she pictured in her head like in the books she had read. That there would be no praise or graditute for doing something heroic. Praise only came from people when they deemed it normal, if they could explain it. If she had only already known that people fear what they do not understand. That like a wild animal trapped in a corner they lashed out in fright. That they would see her as the villain of the story instead of the couragous saviour that slayed the dragon.

It was the twenty third of July that the sparkle in little Maggie Hendrix' eyes would vanish, like a candle blown out at night. Little Maggie Hendrix' she would be no more in the eyes of the people that knew her. They would view her as an abomimation of nature.

In the distance, Maggie watched with a naive smile how one of the younger children of the baker in their town gleefully walked waist deep around the water, no clue of what was to happen to him. His sandy blonde hair a shade darker because of the water, as it sticked to his forhead, blinding the boy for a moment.

A moment to long.

The small brunette knew little Billy could not swim. The small brunette also knew about the small and invisible ledge in the water where the boy was standing.

A second.

A second was all it took to change Maggie Hendrix, life forever.

She remebered it clearly, like everything was in slow motion and time stopped for just a second. Her heart hammered in her chest as she jumped to her feet, eyes blown wide as no one seemed to notice what was happening

There was a scream.

Then there was nothing.

Above the loud chattering no one but naive Maggie Hendrix noticed little Billy disappear beneath the surface of the water and something deep in her core unlocked. Like a wave of power leaping over the rocks, breaking free from the surface for just a moment something snapped into place.

"Billy!" Her thundering yell echoed across the lake leaving a defeaning silence to fall over the small lake. All eyes were focused on her but instead of focusing on why she was screaming they all directed their gazes towards her outstreched hand and as innocent Maggie Hendrix followed their petrified gazes she watched in utter confusement how the lake was parted in two.

It was like an invisible force had created a wall to keep the water from falling down and lying in the muddy sand in between was an onconscious Billy, sprawled out with his face upwards.

And like everything clicked into place, Maggie realised she was the one holding the water back. She suddenly felt the pressure of the water, trying to push through and the brunette frowned when she watched the invisible wall slowly fall apart, the water creeping closer and closer towards Billy.

The wave of power slowly diminishing now the adrenaline left her body.

Maggie watched as one of Billy's older brothers sprung into action rushing to get his little brother out of the lake. The brunette sighed in relief when they reached safety and she dropped to her knees clearly exhausted and drained from the intencity of the power that was used.

But the small brunette could not contain the large smile that formed. The feeling of saving someone just like in her books left the girl in a state of euphoria. But when she looked up, she was met with the complete opposite of what she expected.

Instead of graditute she was met with disgusted and terrified looks. Parents pulling their children closer as they looked at her as if she was a wild animal that would attack them any moment. But what shattered little innoccent and naive Maggie Hendrix that day was the look on her friend's face.

When the small brunette reached out with her hand towards Lily her world came falling apart.

Lily flinched away from her touch, like she was going to hurt her.

A second

It only took one simple moment to uproot her from everything she had ever known.

They didn't see her as a hero, she was the villain in their eyes.

She would always play the villain
in their eyes.
