{HOLIDAY SPECIAL}Chapter 9: Valentine's Party

(Sorry this is late!)

It was early in the morning when my eyes shot open to see a tall figure standing above me. Instinctively, I punched them in the jaw, rolled out of bed and grabbed the gun laying under it, aiming it straight for them. When my sleepy eyes finally focused I saw that it was Tony who had been awoken me. I gasped and layed the gun down at my side, all blood rushing to my feet. Tony stood there, hand on his jaw with wide eyes.
"Kid... what?" He seemed concerned for me more than anything.
"Oh my god! I-I'm so sorry! I didn't know it was you!"
"That's not what I'm worried about. You... you keep a gun under your bed? You wake up to someone over your bed and your first instinct is to punch them?"
"Well you should know better than to wake me up. My whole life has been moments like that and it's gotten worse since I've become an Avenger. I got kidnapped twice last week because I decided to take a nap on a park bench!... I'm not 100% sure why I decided to do it a second time, though... But that's besides the point! Steve got a grenade thrown in his cereal bowl because the window was open! I have to be cautious!" I didn't mean to say that, I didn't even really want to. I loved being an Avenger and having a family, but he needed to understand.
"I didn't know it was that much trouble for you..." Tony trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck.
"It's not just here, Tony. The past is part of it, too. Besides, it's not like it doesn't affect you as well. You keep your suites facing outward surrounding your bed. I can't even go in there most nights because they think that I'm an intruder! Tony, this life takes its toll on all of us, not just me." I was trying to make him feel better, but I'm not sure if it helped. Instead of letting me know if it did or didn't, however, Tony changed the subject.
"Oh, we're hosting a Velentine's party here! It starts somewhat soon, so... I suggest you get dressed." He said, standing up to leave. However, he stopped himself at the door.
"Oh, and, uh... be wary of Loki. Thor asked us to let him come. I'm not sure how many people will show up now that they know he's gonna be here, but... yeah. Get dressed." And then he left. I didn't even know what to do or say really so, rather than think on that, I decided to get dressed. I put on the outfit that I bought yesterday and stepped out the door admiring the amazing decorating job Tony had managed to do in one night.
"Woah..." I said aloud, gazing in awe at the different colored, glittering hearts hanging from the ceiling. There was a giant (stuffed) chocolate bear that went all the way from the bottom floor to the top, different reds and pinks were tossed around everywhere, lights hung on everything... including the armor of a certain someone. I giggled, walking up to him.
"Y'know, if you took your armor off you might not have lights on you." I mumbled to Loki as I walked by. I saw his cheeks flush as he made his armor vanish. He looked so much different with his armor off. I laughed to myself and went to go find the other Avengers. People were beginning to slowly turn up, filling up the entirety of the tower. A couple of people wanted to get pictures with me, but they left almost as soon as they came, almost as if they thought I was bothered by them or that I was just unaproachable. I sat down in the corner of the room. Someone was sitting next to me, but they didn't try to talk to me so I couldn't be bothered.
"Nice party, isn't it?" I asked the stranger, staring at everyone dancing. A slow song suddenly came on and all the couples went towards each other.
"I suppose." I quickly recognized Loki's voice as he sighed apathetically.
"Not one for parties?" I questioned, turning to face him. He finally looked at me as well and I knew why he was hating his time there. His hands were bound together in a rather uncomfortable looking fashion. I pouted a moment, staring down at them. Finally, I just came out and said it.
"Do you wanna dance?" I said quickly, shifting my entire body towards him dramatically. His eyes went wide for a moment until he began to chuckle.
"This is a joke, right?" He smirked his usual Loki smirk.
"You wish." My eyes became wild as I smirked back at him, pulling him out of his chair. The slow song that had been playing at the beginning of our conversation had long since ended. It was now bouncy and exciting. Loki allowed me to drag him to the dance floor where he stood still as I dance excitedly in front of him. No one noticed us, no one even looked.
"How well do I dance, oh great God of Mischief? Do I meet your standards?" I said after a minute, trying to create some form of conversation.
"You may be good at Midgardian dancing, but you couldn't possibly dance as well as a god." Loki bragged.
"You know, if you hadn't continued your statement, it could almost have seemed like you were complimenting me." I teased, continuing to dance. Loki chuckled.
"Don't get used to it." I saw a mysterious glint in his eyes as he said those words. I stopped dancing as the song ended, another slow song beginning.
"Good. Now I can show you how you should truly be dancing." Loki said, taking my hand. I quickly realised that his chains were making it rather hard to dance, so I decided to help him out a small bit. I used a bit of magic to bend the reality of the chains, warping the center so they fell at both sides of me, swaying delicately with each turn. Loki seemed surprised.
"The chains will only stay this way until I tell them not to, so don't try to escape or anything. Especially not in the middle of dancing. It's not very nice to leave your dance partner in the middle of a song." Loki smiled at my wit, then continued to lead me across the floor.
"You're pretty good... for a Midgardian." Loki smirked, staring me down.
"Another half compliment? I thought we were having a moment!" I pouted, watching his eyes.
"Hah! Now that's rich!" He mused, his gray-ish blue eyes stopped sizing me up to stare deeply into mine. A brief pause that caused breath to get caught in my throat for a moment.
        "Your eyes... they-"
"They're accentuated by what I wear. They do not change color. The clothing merely brings out color. So, the outfit I currently have on doesn't bring out any blue or green." He huffed, looking away for me. I hoped that I hadn't hurt his feelings, but then again, he didn't seem like the kind of person that you could get to. The song eventually ended, causing Loki to retract from me rather quickly, which in turn led to the chains coming back together as my focus was broken.
"That was fun." I curtsied, looking into his eyes. They seemed panicked, like he'd done something he hadn't wanted to.
"Sure. It was... enjoyable." He shook slightly as he spoke. His strong facade seemed to break for a moment before instantly building itself back up again. Suddenly, I felt a strong hand on my arm. I recognized the firm yet calm hold; Tony. I mouthed 'go' to Loki and he instantly turned and walked away from me.
"What were you doing?" Tony asked, seeming worried. Usually I would be happy that he worried for me, but he shouldn't be so worried about Loki. He was actually nice to talk to and nice to me, as well.
"Why are you so worried? I only danced with him." I stated coldly. Thor (as well as the rest of The Avengers) were standing behind Tony and I saw a chill run up Thor's spine.
"You danced with the enemy?" Tony was clearly shocked.
"The enemy? Tony, he's not a bad guy."
"Put your next sentence together very carefully, Shirley Temple." Tony released my arm.
"What? I've been talking to him, and-"
"You're... you've been talking to him!?" Oh no...
