Chapter 22: Rain

Loki was currently sitting on the couch in Stark's library reading a book. If I had known that this library would be so big, I would have visited a long time ago. I knocked upon one of the bookshelves, catching Loki's attention. I saw pain in his eyes for only a moment before he decomposed himself. For the 'God of Tricks and Lies' he wasn't that good at hiding his feelings early on.
"Can I come in?" I asked, walking up to him and sitting down. I had finally lost my blankets since Tony had finally fixed the thermostat and it was already warmed up. I still need to ask why he only just decided to fix it.
"Not that it matters at this point in time, but yes." Loki asnwered, scooting over to give me more room.
"So, Loki... you do realise that Steve and I aren't together, right?" I asked him. His eyes widened in shock but he instantly decomposed himself.
"I figured you weren't. Why should I care about your stupid mortal relationships, anyway?" Loki questioned, narrowing his eyes at me. I gazed at him with soft eyes and he gulped.
"Loki, don't play dumb." I told him. He leaned back, surprised that I had said something like that.
"(Y/n), is something wrong? You've been acting rather strangely."
"I've been acting strangely? You've been acting strangely! Ever since that night it seems that our relationship has taken multiple steps back!" I explained, voice slightly raised. His originally inquisitive expression turned to one that looked almost apologetic. And it stayed. Seeing him vulnerable and upset like that... I think that that's what brought on what I did next. I leaned in slowly and I felt his warm lips against mine. He didn't kiss back and just sat there. When I pulled back I saw his eyes were wide open. I should have known.
"I-I'm sorry..." I barely whispered. I rushed out of the room, not listening to anyone shouting after me. I ran out the front doors and down the street in the pouring rain. I finally sat down under a bus stop awning, my clothes were soaked through and my heart was broken. Why did I ever think that he would love me. I'm such a fool... humans are foolish. Loki was right all along. We care too much, we put our hearts on the line only to have them broken again and again until we can't take it anymore. I put my head in my hands, wishing that I just could've kept my mouth shut. I heard a knock on the side of the bus stop glass.
"Can I come in?" Loki mimicked, sitting down next to me. I moved away from him and didn't dare meet his gaze.
"What do you want?" I asked him, trying to hold back tears.
"Look at me." Loki pleaded, turning my head towards him. He stared deeply into my eyes, as if he could see right through me, see everything that had happened, everything I was. Once again his soft lips met mine in a kiss he inniciated. I moved my lips in cinc with his and he grabbed the back of my head and snaked his arm around my waist, pulling me toward him. I raked a hand through his dark black hair, deepening the kiss further. My other hand reached around to his back and rubbed it gently. We only pulled away for breath. We both gasped and smiled excitedly at each other. I don't think that I've ever been happier in my life. I put my hands on his cheeks and rubbed circles on them with my thumbs.
"That was... wow..." I breathed, leaning in so our foreheads and noses touched. Loki put both hands on my waist and lifted me up, spinning me around in the rain. I laughed happily at him.
"Loki, you're soaking wet!" I laughed after he put me down. He chuckled and leaned back a little.
"So I am." He acknowledged, leaning in and rubbing his nose against mine. He was uncharacteristically loving and I absolutely loved it. Was this how he was when he finally let someone in?
"So... what are we?" I asked him.
"Well, you're a human with powers and I'm a god." He answered.
"Ha ha, very funny." I said sarcastically.
        "Seriously, though... what are we?"
"Whatever you want us to be." Loki smirked, pulling me to him and kissing me passionately. I melted into the kiss, glad that I was finally able to be happy with someone and glad that it was him. Yes, I knew how the Avengers still didn't fully trust him, but that didn't matter to me. I trust him. When we pulled away again I suddenly remembered the deal I made with Tony.
"Oh, uh... we have to go on a date now." I told Loki, shuffling my feet.
"What? Why? Is this Midgardian ritual important to you?" Loki seemed rather puzzled by this, which I sort of understood. We had known each other for some time now and he knew that a lot of things that were important to most people weren't that important to me.
"No, no, it's just... I kinda made a deal with Tony that if you actually liked me, which I highly doubted, we would go on a date." Loki chuckled at this.
        "And if I didn't?"
"Steve had to admit that he had a crush on Bucky..." I mumbled. Now Loki was fully laughing. After a couple minutes Loki got serious again. His seriousness suddenly reminded of the rain that was soaking us to the bone.
"(Y/n), I'm going to ask you to do something that is very important and I need you to comply." I nodded, wondering what he was about to tell me. He placed his hands on my shoulders and, for the third time today, he looked deep into my eyes. It was beginning to get somewhat cliche, but every time he did it I couldn't help but feel connected to him.
"Never doubt that I'm with you. Even if I am across space, across time, across this plane of life all the way in Valhalla, always remember that I am with you." My eyes brimmed with tears at his heartfelt confession and I hugged him tight, never wanting to let him go. Maybe I wouldn't have to. Maybe we could be perfect together... forever.
