Chapter 12: Getting Started
Loki and I have been living in the middle of no where for at least a month now. Since I asked him to place tiny cameras around the Avenger's tower, he'll give me weekly updates of how and/or what they're doing as a way to assure our safety.
"Loki!" I called through the trees. He had recently told me a game that I had missed out one (one that he used to play with his brother frequently) called hide-and-seek. He won almost every round which, in all honesty, wasn't exactly fair considering his ability to vanish.
"Loki, c'mon! You have to stop cheating like this!" I laughed, rushing freely over the grass and leaves. I heard a sudden rustling around a nearby tree and instinctively went towards it.
"Gotcha!" I announced, pulling myself around the tree. Nothing. I scratched my head in hopelessness.
"Rargh!" A shout. I rolled, quickly pulling my gun from it' s holster and aiming it directly where the sound had come from, a strand of hair falling into my face.
"Oh... I forgot you had that." Loki wavered, raising his hands up.
"Loki!?" I questioned, standing up.
"Yes. Now, could you put the gun away?" He asked, pointing to the gun in my hands.
"Oh, yeah. Sorry." I muttered, placing the gun back into it's holster. I looked at Loki in shame, but he simply smiled at me. I couldn't bare to.
"Loki... do you... do you think I'm going to die here?" I wondered, looking deep into his seafoam-green eyes. I felt tears swelling in my eyes.
"What? I don't-"
"I mean, it's not like I mind, I just... I always assumed I'd go down fighting, y'know? Now that I say it out loud it sounds stupid, but-" I attempted to explain myself, but... he hugged me. Loki, God of Mischief (and someone who doesn't show emotion easily), hugged me.
"Loki? A-are you okay? This... it isn't like you..." I stuttered, slowly beginning to wrap my arms around him, resting my head comfortably on his shoulder.
"I know, but I thought you might need it. You know how week you midgaurdians are, always needing comfort." He chuckled lightly. I snuggled and let out a saddened laugh and pulled away, wiping some tears away.
"Do you always feel the need to do that?"
"Give anti-compliments?"
"Of course I do!" He smirked slyly. I gently punched him in the arm. He feigned to be in pain and I laughed at him.
"You know, I think that this is the first time I have ever seen you genuinely smile." Loki said, looking at me.
"And I think that this is the first time you've ever actually been nice to me." I commented. Loki let out a hearty laugh.
"Don't get used to it." He leaned his head to one side and smirked again. He pulled out the small camera system he used to check on the Avenger's and quit smirking the second he did. Instead, a wide, devilish smile crept up his pale cheeks.
"Oh... you're gonna want to take a look at this." His voice was dark and hateful and I was a bit afraid to come look. He had one camera positioned on the TV, but there was no one there so it must have been left on. I looked harder and what I saw on the screen I couldn't comprehend.
"K-kidnapped!?" I asked in disbelief.
"All of them." He answered, his smile getting wider.
"We have to help them!" I proclaimed, staring at him. His face immediately twisted up in disgust.
"What!? Why!? After everything they did to yo-"
"They were the closest thing I ever had to family!" I shouted, clenching my teeth, fists balled at my sides. Everything was clenched so tight that I began to shake violently.
"What?"
"I... I don't actually have... a family. They took me in, they helped me, saved me from the life I left from. Though they may have hurt me and cast me off, I... I can't help but feel that I have a debt to them."
"So you're trying to get even?"
"I... I guess so." Loki sighed and rubbed his face.
"Fine. Fine! Let's go save them, but we won't do it again!" My eyes out up.
"Yes! Thank you so much!" I jumped up and hugged him.
"So," I started, stepping back, "Where are they?" I asked.
"I honestly have no clue... but I know where we can find some information." He put his hand on my shoulder and within two seconds we were at the Avenger's tower. I fell to the floor instantly.
"Whoops... I forgot that mortals couldn't handle teleportation so well." Loki winced, looking down at me.
"Nope, I'm fine." I announced, standing up and looking my neck.
"Let's start looking. The most likely place would probably Clint's room since he isn't very good about hiding his secret papers." I told Loki, walking to his room. I stopped in front of his door. Loki reached for the door handle but I slapped his hand away and he seemed surprised by the action.
"He may leave important things laying about, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have safety precautions. I should know. I tried to sneak into his room and scare him and got hospitalized." I laughed at the memory, then motioned for Loki to get behind me. He obliged, so I opened the door. Of course, the second I did, about 20 arrows shot into the wall across from us.
"I'm surprised you were hospitalized rather than instantly killed." Loki chuckled, his eyes wide in slight shock.
"So were they." I scoffed, stepping around the door and into the room.
"Information... information..." I kept muttering to myself, searching through the room. I stumbled across a selfie that Clint had taken and framed. It was all of us in a line, smiling and giving each other bunny ears. I smiled sadly, then put the photo back and wiped a stray tear from my eye.
"Find anything?" I asked Loki, turning around to see him.
"Nothing so far, though I did find a diary that our big bad 'Man of Iron' (ad my brother so calls him) made for him. It has everything from strange worm cravings to-"
"Give me that!" I shouted, taking it from him.
"What? That can't possibly be helpful!" Loki was clearly exsapsorated and I don't think he wanted to be there in the first place.
"Look!" I yelled, shoving the book in his face. "Right there! Tony wrote these for all of the Avengers as a way to disguise missions in meaningless, stupid jokes! It tells us where there are! Or, at least where they were headed."
"I think they all may be losing touch." Loki laughed. I scowled at him and he seemed to shrink down a bit.
"Well, I guess we should leave then."Loki said nervously. I smirked wildly at him.
"No. First... we stock up."
