Mother's Day
John Imagine:
"I finally got him to sleep."
John glanced up to find you dragging yourself across the bedroom. Or rather, you were struggling to drag yourself. You were utterly exhausted, and it showed. John grinned slightly at you and moved over to make room for you on the bed.
"Julian's a fussy little guy, isn't he?" he chuckled.
"I just don't understand how such a small, tiny human can spit up so much," you groaned, flopping down face first upon the bed. "And how much food are we giving him? Do you have any idea how many diapers I changed today? I have to buy more tomorrow."
"Babies are a lot of work," John grinned.
"That is no baby," you said, your voice muffled against the bed. "That is a monster. A smelly, constantly hungry... and adorable monster. Damn it, he makes it so hard to be mad at him, and he's not even in the room."
"To think you once said you wanted three kids," your husband teased. You mumbled something incoherent. "Get some sleep, love. And if Julian wakes up–"
"—Which he will–"
"–I'll put him back to sleep. I've got the day off tomorrow, so don't worry about a thing. I'll even get the diapers."
You lifted your face off the bed and offered John a weak yet grateful smile. Then you sighed, turning yourself over on your back so you could stare at the ceiling.
"Don't get me wrong," you said quietly. "I love Julian so much. And I wouldn't change a thing. It's just–"
"You need a break," John interrupted softly. "And you'll get one. And more. Don't worry your pretty head anymore, darling. Come over here."
You inched up into John's arms, allowing him to envelop your tired form. Snuggled up and comfortable, you fell into a deep slumber.

"Y/N..."
What?
"Y/N, wake up..."
But I don't want to.
"It's the end of the world, Y/N, let me see your pretty face before it's completely over!"
"Huh?"
You fluttered your eyes open and sat up to find John smiling sheepishly at you. Little Julian, one year of age, sat between his father's legs, his toothless smile bright and adorable.
"The end of the world, John?" you arched an eyebrow.
"Sorry, I needed you to wake up," John laughed.
"Needed me to?" you repeated, lovingly smiling down at Julian and leaning down to kiss the top of his head. "Hey there, little monster."
Julian babbled in response.
"You know what day it is today, Y/N?" John asked.
You furrowed your brows. "June 2nd?"
"No. Well, yes, but no."
"So what?"
"Tell her, Jules!" John told Julian, taking the child's hands and waving them dramatically.
"Mama!" Julian squealed eagerly. "Mama! Mama!"
You giggled uncontrollably. "I don't understand," you chortled.
John sighed. "He was supposed to say, 'Mama day.' Come on, Jules, we went over this an hour ago."
Julian pinched John's nose in response. John laughed.
"Mama day?" you asked, puzzled.
"Mother's Day," he explained.
"John, that was a month ago–"
"And we didn't get to celebrate because we were both busy!" John cried. "We need to! Better late than never, right?"
"But John–"
"Y/N, listen to me," he said, his childish grin which was very similar to Julian's softening into a gentler smile. "You work so hard everyday to make sure that both Julian and me are taken care of. You take care of us, and you never ask for anything in return. I get the feeling that you don't think we're grateful for having you in our lives." He crinkled his nose at you playfully. "We are. We're so lucky to have you. You love us and give us the entire world. So we want to give you something in return. Right Jules?"
"Mama!" Julian squabbled again, reaching out for you.
"He wants his mama!" John exclaimed.
You stared at your boys tearfully, unable to contain the smile curling upon your lips. You reached over and took Julian in your arms, holding him to your chest and kissing his head.
"Oh my boys," you sighed, gesturing for John to join. He shifted over to you and wrapped his arms around both you and the child. "Taking care of you two and being a mother isn't a job. It's a privilege, a gift. So really, I'm the lucky one here."
John brushed your hair out of your face and pressed his lips against your forehead. "How about the three of us go out to celebrate later, after we give you the gift?"
"Sounds wonderful," you said brightly. "Say, what is the gift anyway?"
"Breakfast in bed!" John said excitedly. "Pancakes, scrambled eggs, French toast, and of course, a lovely cup of tea for the most lovely and beautiful wife in the universe."
You sniffed the air to catch a whiff of what John was cooking for you. Your smile faded.
"John," you said. "I think your gift is burning."
"Don't be silly, love, it isn't..." John's voice trailed off as he took a breath in. His eyes widened. Jumping out of bed, he raced to the door, yelling, "Crap! Crap! Crap!"
"John!" you scolded, covering Julian's ears with your hands. "Watch your language! I don't want him learning–"
"Crap!" Julian giggled.
You and John stared at Julian.
"Crap," you sighed.
Apart from the breakfast mishap (and Julian learning a new word), your belated Mother's Day was truly special. And it was even more special spending it with your favourite boys.
Requested by @Doda1726! I know Mother's Day was like two weeks ago, but happy Mother's Day to all the amazing mommies in the world! Including mine :)
