Moon River
Paul Imagine:
Moon River,
Wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style someday
Paul nervously stood by the shore, overlooking the ocean where the water sparkled and shimmered beneath the moonlight. A gentle wind tousled his smooth mop of dark hair, causing his fringe to tickle his forehead. He tugged anxiously at his shirt collar - he never felt so nervous in his life. He closed his eyes and listened to the waves dancing among the soothing waters, attempting to calm his racing his heart.
It worked. For a moment, anyway.
But when he heard footsteps grazing across the soft, warm sand, his heart rate increased once again. He opened his eyes and turned, his gaze now on you, approaching him from afar. Be still my beating heart.
You looked absolutely breathtaking. Your long white coat trailed behind you, like pure snow surrounding your very presence in such grace and wonder. You had your hair down, allowing it to flow every which way like the ocean waves. You seemed to glow, the outline of your frame incredibly angelic while the moon paled in comparison. You were a true vision of beauty.
Old dream maker,
You heartbreaker
Wherever you're going,
I'm going your way
"Hi Paul," you greeted with that enchanting smile.
"Y/N," Paul responded, extending his hand for you to take. "You look beautiful, darling."
"You're not so bad yourself," you giggled as you took hold of his calloused hand. "You're full of surprises. It's nearly eleven and you ask me to meet you here? You must be off your rocker or something."
"You came, didn't you?" Paul said sheepishly. You shrugged, your grin never ceasing. "I'm sorry for making you come here so late. But I really need to do this."
"Whatever this is," you said, "it really couldn't wait? I mean, I'm available tomorrow."
"Yes, well... tomorrow never knows, right?" he pointed out. "While I still have you with me, I think this is something that I have to do now. I don't want to miss my opportunity and regret it for the rest of my life."
"Opportunity for what?" you asked curiously.
Paul offered you a sideways smile. "You remember this beach, don't you?"
"Of course I do. We had our one year anniversary over here. I made us a picnic lunch and you brought me my favourite flowers and a bottle of wine."
"Right," he nodded. "Well, I couldn't find the same wine, but..." He brought out his free hand, where a single flower was enclosed gently between his fingers. You blushed; it was your favourite.
Two drifters,
Off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
"What's this for, Paul?" you asked as he tucked the flower within your hair, the stem settled behind your ear.
"That was five years ago," he said quietly. "And since then, I've been falling more and more in love with you. Everyday, you gave me more reasons to love you. And everyday, you become more and more beautiful."
You blinked in surprise, your cheeks burning an endearing shade of rouge. "Paul..."
"Since I met you," Paul said softly. "Life has been an adventure. Every little moment we share together holds more meaning to me than anything else in the world. Every good morning kiss, every meal we eat, every stupid fight... It's all I want to see, all I want to live. Until the day I die, I want to share every moment with you."
Your E/C eyes glittered, tears now swimming and leaking down your cheeks, yet your smile never faltered. Paul reached into his pocket and pulled out a little black velvety box. He opened it, though quivering within, he managed to keep his hands steady. Sitting delicately within the box was a silver ring, with a princess cut diamond posing at the centre like a lady of utmost elegance.
We're after the same rainbow's end,
Waiting round the bend
Paul, his doe eyes wandering in the depths of your heart, slowly bent down until he settled on one knee before you whilst holding your trembling hand.
"Y/N L/N," he said, his voice now melodic and supple like the strings of a violin. "My love, my life... Will you do me the honour of spending the rest of my days making sure your smile never wavers? Will you marry me and become my beautiful wife?"
You quickly mopped up any stray salty tear running about on your cheeks, giggling uncontrollably and nodding vigorously. "Paul... How could I ever say no to you? Yes... Yes! Of course I'll marry you!"
Paul felt his heart leap as he carefully slid the ring on your finger, binding your promises to one another. He stood up, enveloping your smaller form with his arms, and pulled you towards him, your chest gently meeting his. He bent his head down and captured your lips with his. Your kiss was harmonious, your lips dancing with his in perfect synchrony.
My Huckleberry friend,
Moon River,
And me...
Song: Moon River by Barbra Streisand (originally sang by Audrey Hepburn)
Exams are coming up in a couple of weeks but I really wanted to write this! This song is bittersweet to me. Moon River was my beautiful aunt's favourite song in the world. She died when I was ten, and this song was played at her funeral. I was thinking about her and this song today and was inspired to write this. I hope you enjoy it :)
To my wonderful aunt, I love you so much.
