Carry That Weight
Ringo Imagine:
Anxiety was starting to take its toll on you, and you were afraid it was starting to show. Everyday, it got worse and worse, and you didn't know what to do.
It was either for a ridiculous reason or no reason at all. It was when Ringo went on tour, or just went to the studio for work. Would he come back? Or was he leaving? You didn't know. But every time he walked out the door, a pool of nerves crawled into the pit of your stomach, and you wouldn't be able to sit still all day until Ringo returned home with his gentle, loving smile.
Other times, the nerves crept up to you for no reason. Late at night, when Ringo was asleep, you would get out of bed, leave the bedroom, go out in the backyard, and gasp for air. During the day, you would hardly eat anything. You would manage a few bites at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, then you would excuse yourself.
As each day went by, it was becoming more obvious to Ringo that something was wrong with you. He knew you were barely eating, and it worried him. Your health could be on the line. He didn't want to have to take you to the doctor because you weren't eating.
One night, after another day at the studio, Ringo returned home. In the living room, he found you pacing the room, breathing heavily and shaking from head to toe. But when you noticed Ringo enter the room, you stopped and released a long breath, trying to smile.
"Welcome home," you greeted, clasping your hands together to stop them from shaking.
"Are you okay?" Ringo asked worriedly, going over to peck your lips.
"Fine, yeah," you lied.
Ringo obviously didn't believe you, but he was afraid to push it. He didn't want to further upset you.
"You up for dinner?" he asked, concern still lacing his tone.
"Um... sure, why not?"
At the dinner table, with two plates of pasta, Ringo watched you carefully as you forced a few bites into your mouth. But only minutes later, you pushed your plate away.
"You're not eating?" Ringo questioned.
"You know, I'm just... I'm not hungry," you muttered, standing up and quickly fleeing the dinner table.
Ringo sat there, stunned. Ignoring his dinner as well, he quickly followed you. He found you in the bedroom, sitting on the edge of the bed and breathing heavily into your hands. You looked as though you had run a marathon.
Ringo hastily knelt down in front of you, his hands on your shoulders.
"Y/N? What's going on?" he asked, alarmed.
You shook your head, not speaking for a moment. Soon, your breathing slowed and you slowly glanced up at Ringo, your eyes pooled to the brim with tears.
"I'm not okay," you croaked.
Ringo pulled you into his arms. "I know," he whispered.
"I-I can't... I don't know how to breathe," you sobbed. "W-when you leave... I can't f-function. But other times... I still can't! I-I'm always so... nervous. And I can't stop it."
Ringo felt his eyes sting with tears, but he quickly blinked them away. He couldn't cry now. He had to be here for you. He would cry later.
"Oh my love," he sighed, kissing the top of your head. "I wish you told me... Why didn't you?"
"I can't burden you with my problems... You're already busy enough as it is..."
"Never too busy for you," he said. "I love you. I'm always here. Listen to me." He stroked your hair gently, attempting to soothe you. "It's okay to not be okay. But you have to talk to me, Y/N. I can't bear to see you in so much pain. Let me help you. Let me lift some of the weight off your shoulders. Or all of it. I'll carry it all."
Your racing heart steadied to an even pace, and the nerves in your stomach started to ease, albeit ever so slightly.
"I-I just... don't know how to handle it," you whimpered.
"We'll figure it out, darling," Ringo said softly. "We're gonna take it one day at a time. Just remember to always focus on breathing."
Ringo took time off work to stay at home with you. It was a slow process, but over the next few weeks, your anxiety started to ease. You were eating regularly again. Most importantly, you felt safe.
Ringo was there to help you through it all.
