Blind Date

John Imagine:

"You did what?"

Aunt Mimi rolled her eyes at her nephew, John, as she carefully sipped her tea. "A girl will be waiting for you down at the cafe," she told him. "It's no big deal. I figured you needed some time off from your band for awhile."

"Why?" John whined.

"You need to get out more and meet new people, that's why," Mimi said firmly.

"Can't I go next weekend? We've got an important rehearsal today."

"You'll just come up with another excuse next weekend."

"I shall do no such thing!"

"Of course you won't. Because you're going today. Now go pick something to wear. Something respectable, none of that teddy boy nonsense."

John sighed and dragged himself to his bedroom. He could not believe Mimi had just set him up on a blind date.

"Mum, this is so awkward..."

"Don't be silly, Y/N," Mrs. Harrison smiled as she braided your hair. "It's not so bad. I think this will be really good for you."

"I don't even know who he is," you muttered. "What if he's some kind of serial killer or a stalker? You might be sending me to my death."

Mrs. Harrison chuckled. "You'll be fine," she said. "He's a good lad. A wee bit cheeky, though. Come on, dear, go put on your skirt."

Your mother left you alone to get dressed. As you fixed up your blouse and slipped into your skirt, a knock on your bedroom door emitted. Before you could respond, the door swung open, and your older brother, George, walked in.

"Looking fancy, Y/N," he commented.

"I don't recall allowing you to come in," you said irritably.

"Sure you did," George grinned. "I read your mind. It's sibling telepathy."

"Oh, I see," you folded your arms. "So what am I thinking now?"

He squeezed his eyes shut dramatically, as though concentrating with every last particle in his being. "You're thinking... that I'm the best brother in the world... and when you get back home, you'll make me your famous blueberry pie."

You arched an eyebrow. "Actually, I was thinking about how annoying you are and considering kicking your ass all the way to Sunday."

George frowned. "Well, that's not very sisterly of you," he pouted.

"Is there a reason you so rudely barged into my room while I was getting ready? You're lucky I'm not in my panties right now."

He shuddered. "That can't be pretty," he shivered. You threw your pillow at his face. "And I just wanted to check up on you. Listen, I'm not... I'm not comfortable with you going on a blind date."

"Mum set it up, it can't be that bad," you shrugged. "She knows the bloke. Supposed to be nice."

"But you don't know him," he pointed out. "What if he hurts you? Or kidnaps you? Or kills you?"

"I think you're overthinking it, Geo," you laughed.

"Weren't you worried about that earlier when you were talking to Mum?"

"What, you were eavesdropping too? Do I get any privacy around here?"

"Um... forget the last thirty seconds of your life."

"Trust me... I wish I could."

John glanced around at the cafe, his irritable look from before still etched upon his face. He wasn't looking forward to this blind date. He's had his fair share of girls, he was always up for a date with a pretty girl. But who this girl was, how was he supposed to know? And his aunt had set him up. It was just... weird.

He scanned the small yet quaint cafe in search for whoever it was he was meeting. He spotted you sitting by a table, checking your watch every now and then and looking around awkwardly. John tilted his head to the side curiously. Is that her?

He approached the table and tapped you on the shoulder. You looked up with raised eyebrows and a smile. A rather lovely smile... John had to admit, you were extremely pretty.

"Sorry to bother you, love, but... are you Y/N?" he asked.

Your smile grew. "You're John, aren't you?"

"Ah, I found you!" John cheered. You laughed, watching as he sat across from you. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Y/N. And may I just say... how you doing?" He wiggled his eyebrows at you playfully.

"Oh, you're smooth, aren't you?" you giggled. "Well, John, I'm just fine. You'll have to forgive me if I seem a little nervous, I've never been on a blind date before."

"We'll get on just fine then," he grinned. "I haven't either. My aunt set me up... which sounds wrong out loud."

"My mum really wanted me to do this as well," you said. "She's good... but she's really into my dating life. My brother wasn't very excited about me going, though. He's way too protective."

"Ah, all brothers are," John waved his hand as if it wasn't a big deal. "You know, I'll admit, I wasn't sure about this at first. But you seem great. And you're quite nice to look at."

"I'll admit, I was a little hesitant myself," you smiled. "But I'm glad we're doing this. You're not so bad yourself."

"Why, thank you," John tipped an imaginary hat and winked at you. You released another giggle. Your laugh was really nice... John was starting to think maybe there could be something real between you. "I'll order us something hot to drink and then we could toast."

"What should we toast to?" you asked.

"I guess to my aunt and your mum for setting us up," John chuckled.

You grinned. "Oh, I could definitely toast to that."

"How was your date? Did he want to kill you?"

You rolled your eyes at George as you kicked your shoes off by the front door. "No, he was really great," you responded. "The date was actually fun. He taught me how to make spit wads."

George scrunched up his nose. "That's gross."

"Exactly," you grinned.

"You're not going out with him again, are you?" he whined.

"Oh, yes I am," you glared. "And you're not going to bother me about it, you wee bugger. I really like this guy, so hush."

George sighed. "Whatever... as long as he's not a teddy boy."

"Geo, you're a teddy boy."

"... Shut up. Anyway, what's this bloke's name?" he asked.

"None of your business," you called as you went up the staircase.

"Well, what's he like?" George questioned, following you.

"He's nothing like you, that's for sure. He's not annoying," you said irritably, entering your room.

"Oh, just tell me something," he pouted, stopping by your doorway.

"Let me think about that... Nope," you smirked, closing the door in his face.

You laughed joyfully as John grabbed your hand and sprinted with you towards the gates to Strawberry Fields.

"What's the deal with this place?" you asked curiously.

"It's just a great place!" John cried. "We can just sit here with nobody to bother us. It's a nice day, we can enjoy it by ourselves. I like it when it's just us."

You smiled fondly at him. "So do I."

You had been dating John for nearly a month now. Every date had been fun and adventurous. John just knew how to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. You never felt this way about anyone before. He was one of a kind.

You sat next to John by a tall, fruit tree and cuddled up to him, resting your head on his chest. He wrapped his warm, welcoming arms around you and kissed the top of your head.

"Hey Y/N," he said. "Guess what?"

You lifted your head and peered up at him. "What?"

"You're beautiful," he cooed.

You blushed. "Oh, you're just saying that."

"You do," he murmured in your ear. "And you're not like other birds. You don't like doing boring classic things like dinner and a movie. You like adventure. I can't wait for the next one."

"I didn't know you were so cheesy," you smiled. "But I've had the most fun with you. You make everything amazing, even if it was just a dinner and a movie, I'd look forward to it if it was with you."

"Look who's cheesy now," John mused.

You leaned up and pressed your lips against his. He kissed you back, threading his fingers through your hair. He felt you smile against his lips.

He was really falling in love with you.

And you with him.

John clutched his guitar case tightly as he lifted an arm and knocked on the door to George's house. The band was going to rehearse today at George's since Paul's wasn't available. Paul's brother, Mike, went ill and needed the house to himself to feel better.

The door swung open, revealing George. He grinned and stepped aside.

"Hey Lennon, come on in," he greeted tiredly.

"You been sleeping?" John chuckled, stepping inside.

"Yeah, a bit," George laughed quietly. "Been practicing until past midnight."

"Where's Paul and Ringo?"

"Not here yet. Hope you don't mind, by the way, my sister's here. Her boyfriend's busy today, he couldn't take her out."

"It's fine," John shrugged, following George into the living room.

There sat a girl on the couch, immersed a book and sipping tea. John froze in his tracks and stared, wide-eyed.

"Y/N?" he said numbly.

You looked up from your book, nearly choking on your tea as you stared back at John. You stood up quickly.

"John!" you gasped. "What're you doing here?"

George glanced between you and John with furrowed eyebrows. "Band practice," he said, puzzled. "Why? Do you know each other?"

John shifted into his feet awkwardly. "Uh..."

George suddenly released a strange noise. "Oh, for the love of... he's the boyfriend?" he said incredulously, turning to you.

"Y-yes," you said nervously. "Why? Why's that a problem?"

"For the record," John piped up, uncomfortable. "I didn't know she was your sister."

George whirled around and flared at John. "Why's that a problem, Y/N?" he said angrily. "Because he's just like any other teddy boy - he'll hurt you and break your heart like he would any other girl!"

"George!" you yelled. "What the hell is the matter with you!"

"Mate, I'd never do that to her!" John defended.

"Oh, that's right, because you've never done that before, have you?" George said sarcastically. "Remember Elizabeth Rogers? You cheated on her with Jessica Smith and she was a mess for a month. The list goes on, Lennon. And I'll be damned if I let you do the to my baby sister!"

"Excuse me!" you said loudly. "I'm not a baby anymore! I can make my own decisions! And for your information, George, he has been nothing but wonderful to me!"

"Y/N, I don't want you seeing him, and that's that!"

George didn't give you a chance to respond, for he stormed out of the living room. You flinched when you heard a door slam. Silence filled the room between you and John. Your eyes welled up with tears.

"Come on," John said quietly, taking your hand. "Let's go talk."

Once you and John settled in your bedroom, you let out the first sob. He sat down on your bed and gathered you in his arms, whispering soothing words in your ear as you silently cried on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry," you whimpered.

"No, darling, it's not your fault," he shook his head. "And to be honest... what George said was kind of true. I've broken a few hearts before... I'm not a great guy. I've made mistakes. Far too many. But I really want this to work between us. I really and truly love you. I swear to you I will never, ever hurt you."

"I love you too," you sniffled, wiping your tears with your sleeve. "I just... I want George to accept us. He's my brother."

"We'll make it work with George," John assured you. "He's one of my best mates. I wouldn't want things weird. I mean, I work with the bloke."

You giggled and nodded.

Outside your bedroom stood George, watching you through the crack in the door. He was going to apologize, knowing that he had overreacted earlier. But he found you and John in your room, with John comforting you and assuring you that everything would be okay. And that he would never hurt you...

George had known John for awhile, but he had never seen him so sincere.

George would be lying if he said he didn't feel guilty.

Sighing, he knocked on the door and peeked inside. You and John glanced up at him, surprised.

"Hey," he said quietly. "I, uh... wanted to say sorry. I was being an ass earlier."

"Yeah, you were," you grinned.

"Geo," John chuckled. "I get it. She's your wee sister. She's important to you. But she's important to me too. Why would hurt something so important to me? I know I can be stupid sometimes, but I'm not that stupid."

George rolled his eyes and laughed. "Oi, listen, I'm not saying I like this," he said firmly. "And Lennon, I will kill you if you hurt her. But if you really do make Y/N happy... then I'll leave you guys alone."

You dashed up to him and hugged him. "You're the best!" you said happily.

John nodded at George with a large smile.
