My Night With Macca
Video Above is Thanks to StuartDuncan -1hr+ of Concert highlights check out In Spite of All Danger at the 4min mark and the 11.05min for a hiproll , 12.30min you can see all my side standing fr of stage left haha direct link is
A/N: I have uploaded some pics (most turned out to be horrible, I'm so upset with that, with the lighting on Paul for the crowd to see it was all too much for my camera to capture) and vids later
On the 9th December 2017 my life shifted it's axis and spun.
I had a 'date' with Paul McCartney and (unfortunately) 40,000 other fans at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane Queensland Australia.
Front Row
Left side of stage in front of Rusty.
Had to compete with a camera boom for pictures and view of stage most of the night BUT I was within metres of the man himself mostly unfettered viewing of Paul. Bopped all night hanging over the security fence and nearly got eyebrows singed from Live and Let Die pyrotechnics going off!
I wanted to scream and did. Well mostly at the fireworks but got a couple of good yells out otherwise.
I wanted to yell 'I love you' 'thank-you' .....and I did, at soundcheck earlier in the afternoon. (I'll post this separately)
Paul looked fit and fine form for a 75yo bloke. My dad said to give him the $2000 before the show and he would sing. I said it wouldn't be really the same so went to see Paul hehe.
We were lucky. Paul, I am led to believe, flew off to Hamilton Island (Georges old stomping grounds) for @ 2 days prior to our show, so was well rested.
He was amazing, his voice, his vim- how the hell does he manage it- I want to be that fit at his age.. what am I saying I want to be that fit now!
Tired and Old? No!!! he wasn't exhausted more like invigorated- he gets off on the crowd; he must!
Ok how did i feel... it was 'Paul f'ing McCartney' man !!
Surreal- a dream- a 3hr moment where the guy that graces my t shirts, walls, books, new cushions (wish app $2 check them out!), my life, my ears -CAME alive.
Hanger-Oners: So there I was 'rattling my jewellery' ..I shoved my hubs and 2 of my 5 kids in the cheaper seats (near sound booth) to clap their hands ;)
Hubs is stationed under that double light tower on the right!
I say kids loosely it was my oldest (30 who just became a daddy) & youngest boy(11 not yet a daddy!) i also have a 28yo boy (man! He has 3 kids argh def. a grandma now!) 20yo boy + 10yo girl(don't ask I'm overly fertile and stupid!! But I did get a daughter ... eventually) I should have bought tics for all but didn't..had them fighting over them up to the day but no one wanting to buy more.
My 11 yo danced & sung ALL night waving a torch for hey jude etc & and some lady accosted him & said he was terrific.
Hubs grumbled bout the guy in front who had an afro and B.O.... My hubs was a bit of a stick in the mud for me- hovering between go and no, then dragging feet on the day- I had 3 other kids that would have gone! grrr. Their seats ended up cutting a little of Brian Ray's RHS of stage & the sound techs portaloo was smelly @15m away fr hubs too that, laced with afro guy (I will def have to load hubs pic of his head lol) was not good. I said MULTIPLE times ask to move, you know at least TRY to get a diff seat- he didn't. And In the end I just had to forget him back there languishing in the cheaper seats haha.... Cudos for him though was his cash that bought my ticket and he was thrilled for moi- earned heaps of brownie points for that he did! though $2000 divided by 25 yr wait is peanuts per year lol.
On a Side-note: 30yo has just sent 3rd thank-you message apparently, he 'gets me & my weird obsession' now and his life has changed ie. Playing Macca and Beatles in car for fun & his son! He's a drummer himself & previous Blink 182/ hard rock noise fan and could not believe Maccas endurance or song list.
You see the exposure ugh this is a 'best of a bad bunch' shot
Song List: 40 songs 3hours wow! The Beatles only played for 26-30minutes way back at the height of Beatlemania, now here's Macca at 75 blasting out mega hits and the tapestry to my life. Soundcheck was an hour long and he played other songs that don't usually see the light of day. No video was to be recorded at the s/check ... I may or may not have got a snatch of sound though, I am, or maybe am, such a rebel. I will put the song list toward the end of chapter..
I 'liked' fans on the run on Facebook & the girl to 1 side of me wore their badge (I wore a homemade retro 1 & got so many comments 'cause they thought it was legit)
I was among strangers but we quickly bonded in the:
Church of Macca- that's what it felt like, a big beautiful church full of music & love.
From birth to end:
In Spite of All Danger- superbly harmonised and so close to the teens of '58 it was goose-bump worthy. Paul and the big concert band became Paul and the knockabouts – all moving forward to centre stage, Abe on a basic drum kit, Paul and the boys close. An old 'house' made up of tiny lights. It reverted to the '50s in that moment and, we all, as close as we could, witnessed the birth of greatness.
In Spite of Exposure it was a great picture of unity! (I've missed Abe the drummer though- sorry Abe you can see a cymbal!)
Band on the Run, tears shed for Linda with Maybe I'm Amazed, watching Paul near cry singing Here Today for John- the night before being the anniversary of Johns passing, Blackbird sung into darkness with one spotlight.
Hey Jude and Let It Be saw 40000 lights flickering and swaying. My 11yo was up on a chair but it was ok it was Macca he was witnessing.
Helter Skelter- the birth of heavy metal that one was and we weren't disappointed. The stage was WOW for this like Minecraft of Acid lol. Can't Buy me Love- another fav of mine out of my favourite 500 lol played so close to The Beatles sound it was awing.
Mr Kite, A Day In The Life which morphed into Give Peace a Chance gave us a chance to celebrate John. God John was amazing wasn't he and his voice one of a kind. I'm telling you Paul did him justice. It also gave 40,000+ voices a chance to really beg for peace in this crazy world in which we live in. The stage lighting superb, beautifully done.
Jet- Jet!!!!
woooo oohh woo wooo ohhh, Jet!!!! woooo oohh woo wooo ohhh
Something on Ukelule- the very instrument George gifted Paul. A story too- How George was a member of the George Formbys Ukelule club frequently travelling to Blackpool, north of Liverpool, to play.
"George gave me this ukulele," Paul told the 40,000 assembled MaccaManiac's clinging to his every word, holding it aloft, like he was in someone's lounge room. "I told him I had worked out one of his songs on ukulele. We were just sitting around jamming."
And Paul simply began to play and sing the song he had learned, the song that is now the second most covered Beatles song of all time.
Mull Of Kintyre- If you don't know this one (or any of the McCartney collection) go search them up. This single outsold everything around it. Bagpipers and band finished this song together some young kids to older players taking a position on stage with Paul, the Australian flag behind, the sound the lyrics took you to Scotland and brought you home, wherever that may be. Some past and current students of my old school were on the stage tonight- Scots PGC Warwick- so was very pleased for them.

Mull Of Kintyre -thanks to blue54band .
Yes he sounds different in a few vids but the atmosphere, the feeling, the emotion was pure, raw and you felt part of something truly special, you felt Paul played for you.
And in the end.......
The love you take...
Is equal to the love ..... you make
Those lines make me cry at the best of times but that night I was blubbering listening to the Paul McCartney singing them live to me so it seemed ....... So fitting, so wonderfully true.
Maccas return was a long awaited one.... He hasn't been to Australia since '92 I was a fan then (I did a project on Elvis in yr8 as a 13yo in (cough cough) '83 & some other girl did the Beatles- I was hooked, I also remembered them from mums 1 single ( 'Can't Do That' ) she had (very inconsiderate of my parents too, they lived in the 60's and never bought ME all the albums -so rude!)
I'm worried with uploading my vid's cause you can hear my (?) or the people sitting beside me- singing.. maybe I just say it was them! Most of my pics were white (-overexposed) as mentioned which is a total bummer though got series of Paul waving flag looking at "ME!"
I hope you liked my review if you have any questions or comments please let me know!
