4 - The Day to Day

Thea and Peter entered Delmar's shop, the comforting and friendly store, that Peter came to regularly. The smell of sandwiches and cookies attacked Thea's nose as she walked next to Peter who was grabbing items along the way to the counter. Thea watched with a smile on her face as Peter reached the counter and slammed down a bag of jelly beans. Behind the counter was a middle-aged man, Mr. Delmar.

"What's up, Mr. Delmar?" Peter called out to the man. Delmar looked over Peter's shoulder to peer at Thea. Thea smiled at Delmar when she caught him looking at her. Delmar smiled sweetly back at her as he spoke back to Peter.

"Hey, Mr. Parker. Number five, right?"

"Yeah, um, and, uh, with pickles, and can you smush it down real flat? Thanks," Peter spoke back at Delmar, gesturing with his hands how to 'smush' it down. Peter peered back to Thea and asked if she wanted anything, to which she replied with a 'no'.

"Who's the friend?" Delmar asked Peter. He nodded his head back toward Thea.

"Oh, um, Mr. Delmar, this is Thea, Thea this is Mr. Delmar." Peter introduced them.

"Hello, Ms. Thea. Now, are you foolish enough to be dating this kid?" Delmar teased the teens. Thea chuckled lightly as Peter, in front of her, sputtered out. "I-um-you."

Thea smiled sweetly at Peter before she spoke out, "No, sadly we're just good friends."

Peter took a deep breath but then suddenly stopped. His breath got caught in his throat as he realized what Thea had just said, sadly. He looked back at Thea with a confused expression on his face, but it got quickly interrupted by Delmar asking, "How's your aunt?"

Peter cleared his throat and turned back around to Delmar. "Yeah, she's alright." He crossed his arms across his chest as he said this. Thea took a few steps forward in order to stand next to Peter. Delmar turned over his shoulder to speak to his co-worker. " La tía de é les una italiana muy bellissima."

Peter smirked at this statement, while Thea remained confused at Delmar. "¿Cómo está tu hija, eh?" Peter seemed confident with his response as Thea stayed in a state of confusion. Mr. Delmar's grin faded as Peter said this, however.

"Ten dollars," Delmar panned.

"It's five dollars," Peter spoke while pointing to the board that listed prices. His voice rose with his defensive statement, causing Thea to smile sweetly at it.

"For that comment, ten dollars."

Peter's eyes widened slightly as Thea spoke close in his ear, "I could pay if you want me too." Peter cleared his throat for what felt like the hundredth time today before he spoke out. "Hey, come on, I'm joking. I'm joking." He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet and handed Mr. Delmar a five dollar bill. Mr. Delmar took it begrudgingly.

Thea, who was staying silent for most of the conversation, placed a hand on his shoulder as her head came closer to him. Almost laying her head on his shoulder she whispered directly into Peter's ear, "What did you guys say?"

Peter swallowed, "He basically said that my May was hot and I said back 'How's your daughter?'"

Thea took her hand off his shoulder as she laughed, "Wow Parker, you got some sass in you." Peter smiled at Thea as he walked over to the other side of the counter, where a large and fluffy cat lay on the edge.

"What's up, Murph? How you doing, buddy?" Peter said to the cat as he pet it with a single hand. Thea stared at the cat, wondering why an animal was allowed to be near where food was made and sold.

Thea whispered to Peter, making sure Mr. Delmar wouldn't hear it. "Hey isn't this cat being here like a violation of health codes or something?" Peter stopped petting the cat for a moment before he spoke out in thought.

"Yeah...weird I never really thought about that."

Peter quickly went over to retrieve his sandwich from Mr. Delmar, while Thea stayed behind and began to pet the cat. Thea could hear Peter and Mr. Delmar strike up another conversation about high school in the background. As Peter finished talking to Mr. Delmar, Thea gave the cat one last scratch and bopped it on the nose. Thea then followed Peter out of the sandwich shop, but not before she said goodbye to Mr. Delmar inside.

"Where are we going now?" Thea asked Peter, who seemed to be in a hurry. They crossed the busy street, a car honking at them on the way across, and made it to an alleyway in between two apartments.

"We are going to do what we do best," Peter said while dropping his backpack down on the ground. He then proceeded to take off his shoes and throw them aside. Inside his backpack was his Spider-Man suit, all wrinkled and crumpled. Thea watched in shock as Peter began to hop in order to take his pants off. He managed to finally take them off, only after he knocked over a trash can. He then peeled off his shirt and sweater from his body, revealing a chiseled and toned chest underneath.

"Dang, Parker. You really workout don't you?" Thea spoke softly with a red-tinted face. She leaned back against the wall with her arms crossed as she watched Peter struggle to get the suit on. She finally got up from her place on the wall when she saw Peter put the mask over his head. The suit was baggy and loose, not resembling the usual skin-tight spider suit everyone knows.

Peter then picked up his backpack and threw it to the container wall, webbing it in place. With a single tap of his hand, Thea watched as his suit compressed to his body, making an airtight seal between the fabric and his skin. Thea scoffed as she watched this happen and muttered the words, "Show-off."

Peter turned around to see Thea, watching him and not getting dressed in her suit.

"Why aren't you dressed?!" Peter asked Thea, his voice getting muffled slightly through his mask. Thea smiled as she took a few steps toward Peter.

"Oh you know, I didn't want to miss the show."

His mask's eyes narrowed when he heard this, realizing what she meant by it. Thea's hand reached into her pocket and retrieved a familiar broach. With a single hand, Thea placed the broach on her chest, causing a thin layer of material to grow over her body. Peter watched in awe at the nanofibers working and growing all over her body. The last thing to form on her body was the black mask that covered her mouth. Thea smirked silently, knowing Peter's awe and fascination. Peter, clad in his Spider-Man suit smiled under his mask and jumped high into the air. Thea shouted out at him, "Hey! Don't just leave me here!"

Thea jumped in the air, but before her feet could touch the ground she formed her powers and pushed herself up into the air. She saw Peter on the edge of the roof, crouching down and looking around at his surroundings. "Ah, finally." Thea heard Peter say.

Peter and Thea both streamed through the skies, a small trail of purple mist following Thea and leftover webs from Peter. Peter and Thea both surveyed the area they passed as they flew by. Citizens on the ground looked up in awe to see the pair. "Down there Spidey!" Thea yelled out to Peter as she pointed to the ground.

On the ground, a man cut a chain off a bike and was riding it down the sidewalk. Peter quickly swung down and stopped the man. He landed right in front of the criminal and held out the end of the web.

"Hey, could you hold this for a second? Thanks," Peter said while shooting the web into the chest of the man. This caused him to get pulled up into the sky, making him dangle there. Peter grabbed the stolen bike and raised it up, "Hey, is this anybody's bike? No?" He shouted at the air.

Thea watched from above at the action before she decided that the man should be brought down. She landed softly on the ground behind Spider-Man, her powers dissipating around her. The people on the sidewalk that noticed her all became anxious. Because although Dark Matter has been helpful in recent years, everyone can't help but remember her as the accident in 2012 attack. Thea tried to not let this go to her head though, she only focused on what was happening at the moment. And at this moment, she needed to help the man down.

Thea chuckled as she saw Peter asking people if it was their bike, and when no one answered, he resorted to writing a note for the bike.

Thea quickly formed her powers and dispersed them at the hanging man, the purple mist grabbing hold of the now terrified man. It cut through Spider-Man's webs and gripped onto the man's body as Thea brought him down to the ground. She never let go of him though, keeping a hold on him as she looked for a policeman. Luckily for her, a police car was driving down the street. With her other hand, she threw a noninvasive cloud of purple mist at the car, causing it to stop. As soon as the policeman came out of the car, Thea handed the criminal over to him. The policeman seemed hesitant to go near Thea as Dark Matter, but she didn't pay any attention to him, instead, she looked at Spider-Man writing a note on the bike.

It read, 'Is this your bike? If not, don't steal it! Spider-Man.'

Thea giggled as she read it, Peter gave the pen back to the generous citizen before he waited for Thea. "You know...I really doubt that will stop someone."

Peter fake scoffed as he pointed out, "They would never steal once I write that on a note."

Thea smiled and sighed out, "Come on web for brains, let's keep going."

The majority of the day was spent like that, catching thieves, stopping bad guys, and helping old people. Thea had no problem helping out Peter, but once it became sunset she decided to go on her own way. Peter said he would stay around in case something happened, but Thea insisted she had to leave.

On the way home, however, Thea noticed a familiar face walking down the street and into Thea and Peter's apartment complex. She had completely forgotten that Ned was planning on coming over to work with Peter on his Lego set. Thea then quickly landed on her fire escape silently and took her broach off, causing her suit to disappear.

I finally finished another chapter, and I promise the next one will be longer and better. This one was kinda a filler chapter, but the next one is going to have more juicy stuff in it.
