Advocacy:
It’s a word nearly impossible to describe
For it’s so complicated
So here’s a million little things

Advocacy is standing up for something when no one else will
Starting a conversation everyone else is too afraid to begin
Standing alone because no one else supports your cause
But standing strong

Advocacy is raising your flags high
Flags painted blue, pink and white
Flags painted all the shades of the rainbow
Marching through the streets in unity
Screaming and shouting at the top of your lungs
“We are strong! You can’t break us!”

Advocacy is raising your fist high toward the sky
And standing tall
And defending those who are less fortunate
And claiming,
“Resist.”

Advocacy is children respectfully leaving their classrooms
And marching out of the school building in silence
To join hands together in the smooth, green grass
And remain there until changes are made

Advocacy is standing tall
Before armed men willing to shoot
Armed men who are supposed to defend and keep the peace
With an expression of calm
And no fear in your heart

Advocacy can be anything
As long as you’ve the courage
And the ability to stand up for what you believe in
