Chapter 3
Louis pov
I heard water splashing. I'm at the bank of a small stream. I heard a scream. It sounded like Harry.
"Harry?" I shouted, running towards the sound.
"Help!" Harry cried.
"Harry!" I called out. I heard another shout. I pushed aside the branches as I rushed between tree trunks. I found Harry in a battle with a stag. Harry's not winning. I grabbed the buck by his rack, holding it back.
"Run, you fool!" I yelled. Harry scrambled to his feet and ran off. The buck was not happy. He tried to ram at me with his antlers but I held them away from my body. The stag was strong. He pushed me up against a tree. I let go and duck low. His antlers got caught in a network of branches. I dashed away.
I met up with Harry. He was trembling. "Let's go." I commanded. Harry followed behind me as we headed to my house. I put on some clothes. They felt a bit strange. I haven't worn clothes in a long time. "Town's straight down there. We'll take my motorcycle." I told him. "It's too far to walk."
I started the motorcycle. We headed into the town. It took a few hours. "We have about 2 hours so don't dilly dally." I gave Harry some loose change and pointed at the phonebox. "You know your friend's number?" I asked. Harry nodded.
Harry pov
I dialed Zayn's number into the payphone. I listened to the tone as I waited for him to pick up. He did.
"Hey, mate. It's Harry" I spoke into the phone.
"Hi Harry." He said. "Where are you?"
"I don't know. I'm in a small town somewhere."
"Very descriptive, Harry." Zayn said sarcastically.
"Sorry." I looked around. I saw a sign that said, "Engle Street". "Zayn, help me look up Engle Street." I spelt the street name out for him.
"It's a street in Baermorial. 5 hours drive from my place." Zayn replied.
"I can't stay here. Louis says I need to leave."
"Who's Louis?"
"I found another one. He turns into a wolf too."
"Seriously? Then why can't you two just stay together? You won't be any harm to him. It's perfect."
"Man, I don't know. He's already helped me so much. I can't just pop into his life and stay in his house forever."
"True. I don't know how you're going to find a house somewhere far from everyone else. The last time you got lucky. Then some asshat had to build a mall next to your house and crushed your home with their dumb wrecking ball."
"You're not much help."
"I don't know how to help you. Hey, I need to go."
"Zayn, no. I need you. I need your help. Please, don't leave."
"Sorry, mate. I want to help but I can't and I really have to go now."
I opened my mouth to say something but Zayn already hung up. I sighed. That was a waste of a phone call. I stepped out of the phone booth.
"You're crying." Louis said. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I said, choking a little. I wiped my tears away with the back of my hand.
"What did your friend say?" Louis asked.
"He hung up on me."
"Oh." Louis commented, not really knowing what to say.
More tears welled up in my eyes. Next thing I knew, I was running down the street.
"Harry, where are you going?" Louis called out, running after me.
"Go back, Louis! You don't have to take care of me anymore."
I sprinted down the road, not looking back to see if Louis was following. At first i heard his footsteps behind me but the sound slowly died. I turned into an alley between two shops. I sat down on the cement floor, leaning against a wall. My feelings overwhelmed me. Streams of tears ran down my face. I hugged my knees and buried my head between them. After a while, Louis sat down beside me. I told him to leave me alone but he was as stubborn as a mule. He patted my back awkwardly. "Why did you run away?" Louis asked, panting.
I looked up at Louis and sniffled. I inhaled deeply. "I don't know. I just- I know you didn't want me around and-"
"Harry, that's not true."
"Isn't it true?"
Louis looked at the ground with guilt.
"My only friend can't help me. I have nowhere to go. I guess I got a bit worked up. I'm sorry. I don't mean to drag you into this. Just go home. Thanks for helping me." I rambled on.
"Harry! Do you even hear yourself?" Louis yelled at me. "You're a fucking werewolf. Quit acting like such a pussy! Stop crying."
I wiped the tears off my face with my sleeve. "Okay." I murmured.
"You only need 2 things: A place to rest during the day and to be far away from humans during the night."
I nodded.
"So, think about how you're going about with that. In the meantime, I want to get a drink. Chasing you halfway across Baermorial has gotten me parched. I think I saw a convenience store somewhere. You want anything?" Louis already started walking. I got up and walked with him. I shook my head. My eyes were still wet with tears.
We walked into a corner shop. Louis bought a bottle of soft drink. We found a bench and sat down. Louis gulped his drink.
"How long have you been a werewolf?" I asked Louis.
"A few years. Not too long I guess. There are werewolves who have lived to thousands of years."
"Did you have friends before you were bit?"
"Oh yeah. I had lots of friends but then I figured it wasn't safe for me to hang around people. I distanced myself. I left for the woods. This is my first time in civilisation since then."
"You never come back?"
"Never."
"Never ever?"
"Well, I did today."
"Don't you miss your friends?"
"I do but it's for the best, I guess." Louis shrugged.
"You know, I got attacked somewhere here. I was at a petrol station somewhere there." I narrated, pointing behind us. "It was almost dawn. A wolf came out of nowhere and pounced on me. It dragged me into like some vegetation and bit my leg off. After that, it just ran off."
Louis listened to my story.
The sky was painted various hues of orange and purple. I admired the pretty colours.
"Oh shit!" Louis cussed. A mother who was walking past with her toddler glared at Louis. "We need to go."
Louis grabbed me by the wrist and dragged me down the street. He hopped onto his motorcycle. I sat behind him. Louis swerved recklessly between trees. I didn't realise that I was hugging his waist. The sky got darker and darker.
Louis' had fur on his body. He braked suddenly, sending us flying.
We changed in mid air.
Harry wolf pov
I was slammed against a tree. I fell onto the ground. It hurt but I managed to get myself on my feet. My body was wrapped in a strange fabric. I tore it off with my teeth. There was a metallic contraption on the ground with light coming from it. I licked it. Ouch! It burnt my tongue. I stepped away. I bumped into the other wolf. He sniffed the air. Then, he ran. I don't know where to but I follow behind him closely.
Soon, I realised what he was after. He smelt humans. They smell fresh and alive. The wolf ran into a town. He attacked a human, pulled her by the ankle into the woods and bites her neck. She screamed hysterically. She was with her boyfriend. Keyword: "was"
Her boyfriend abandoned her. He didn't even try to save her. He's selfish. The girl struggled and fought but obviously her efforts were fruitless. The wolf was violent. She was skinny and weak. The wolf killed her. He ate her flesh.
I ran after the boyfriend. He screamed pathetically. I'm faster than him; I'm stronger than him. I pinned him to the ground and ripped his head off his body. I was spotted by another human. He aimed a metal barrel at me. A loud noise goes off. A small shiny object embeds itself into the ground beside me. I dashed into the woods. The human follows behind me. I dodged and swerved. He loses me but sees the other wolf. He aims his weapon at the wolf. He pulls the trigger. The wolf howled in pain. I pounce on the human and pried the barrel out of his grip with my teeth. I tossed it far from reach. The human shoves me off him, to which I didn't fight back. The human took to his heels without retrieving his weapon.
I trotted over to the other wolf. He whimpered, sitting on the ground. There was a piece of metal in his paw. I pulled it out with my mouth. The wolf cried in agony as I did. The wolf licked his wounds, refusing to walk. I brought scraps of meat for him.
He didn't eat but I did.
