Chapter 23 ~ Harry
Harry
After a while of just cuddling and kissing, we decided that it was time to finally get ready and get to the pub. Well, Ivette needed to get ready. Mari was waiting for us, and also a special snowflake called Niall, so I made sure to text him and tell him to meet us there. Of course he gladly accepted.
“What should I wear?” Ivette asks, standing in front of her closet.
I stood up and stood behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist and placing my chin on her left shoulder. “Anything you want,” I reply. “It’s just a pub and you’ll look great in anything.” I just gain a chuckle from her and even though I don’t see it, I know she playfully rolled her eyes as well. That’s just how she is. God, I like her so much.
“Alright, this black shirt and jeans will do,” She says, taking said things and struggling a bit because of the grip I had on her. “Okay, shoo,” She says, stepping away from me, making me unwrap my arms away from her waist. I just chuckle and walk outside her room, waiting for her to get dressed.
After she comes out of the room, we go down the stairs and she tells Nicholas that she’ll be back later. As always, Nicholas lets her know to call if she needs anything and all that. He’s so sweet to her and I’m glad that she at least has someone that cares for her in this house. I still find the whole idea of having a butler a bit weird though.
As Ivette is thanking him and she opens the front door, her words are cut off by two individuals standing in front of her. There’s a man and a woman. Both look around their late 40s and 50s, and I put everything together when I look at the woman’s face more carefully. These are Ivette’s parents, and I know I’m right because her mother is an older version of Ivette. They are both so similar.
“What are you doing here?” Ivette asks. “I thought you were coming next week.”
“Now darling, is that the way to greet your mother?” The lady says, which made Ivette to roll her eyes. Not playfully.
“Hello mother,” She says. She then looks at her dad. “Father,” she simply says with a nod which he returns.
“How are you dear?” He asks, but Ivette just shrugs as a respond.
“We decided to come a little early,” The lady says, stepping inside the house. “Oh, and who’s this?” She asks turning to me.
I smile. “Hello, I’m Harry Styles. One of Ivette’s friends,” I say, offering my hand. She smiles and gladly takes it, her dad doing the same thing seconds after.
“What a lovely gentleman,” She replies.
“Yeah… well, we’re heading out,” Ivette interrupts, taking my wrist and pulling me with her.
“It was wonderful meeting you Mr. and Ms. Olivas!” I say before heading out, but it all was so fast that I didn’t hear their reply. Soon enough, we’re inside my car and heading to the pub. “They seem like nice people. Why didn’t we stay for longer?” I ask. They are her parents after all, it still quite difficult for me to understand why she dislikes them so much. I mean, yes, I understand where she’s coming from since they weren’t there whilst she was growing up, but family is family. It’s not nice to be mad at them all the time.
“Please don’t start with this,” she says very seriously, so I know that I have to drop the topic. I don’t want her to get mad at me and I know that she’s not happy to see her parents, so I do everything to try and make her feel better. I know I have to comfort her.
“Alright, it’s okay,” I reply, taking her hands in mine over the gear shift and intertwining our fingers. She squeezes my hand a bit, making me look over at her for a bit just to see her give me the smallest smile.
.
When we get to the pub, we are greeted immediately by Mari and two drinks that I have no clue what they are but they taste good. Niall is also there, and of course this didn’t surprise me. I bet he came right over when I sent him that text. Ivette is quieter than usual and I know it’s because of her parents, so I’m constantly telling really punny and stupid jokes to try to make her laugh and feel better. It’s slightly working, key word slightly because she doesn’t laugh. No, I don’t hear her beautiful laugh come out of her full lips, I just see a small smile.
On the other hand, Mari and Niall are cracking up. I swear these two laugh at the silliest thing. I find it adorable though, and I can’t help but smile at the sight of the two of them laughing. I’m so glad I introduced them.
As Mari and Niall keep on laughing and talking to each other, I take this opportunity to get closer to Ivette and make sure she’s fine. “You alright?” I whisper in her ear, taking her hand in mine once again, intertwining our fingers.
She nods. “Yeah, I’m good,” she replies with a sigh. “I just… wasn’t ready to see my parents yet. They took me off guard,” She replies.
I nod, understanding her, but before I can say anything Mari beats me to it. “What are you two so secretive about?” she asks. I know she’s joking, but Ivette shoots her a glare of “not now” and Mari immediately regrets saying what she said. “Sorry, didn’t know it was something serious,” she apologizes.
“It’s okay,” Ivette says. “It’s not your fault, and you’ll know soon enough. I just don’t want to talk about it right now,” she explains. Mari nods, understanding the situation and soon she leaves to take some customer’s order.
“Hey, everything alright?” Niall asks, putting her arms around Ivette shoulders, trying to comfort her.
Ivette nods. “Yeah, it should be,” she replies, smiling a little at him.
“Well, you know that if you need anything we’re all here for you, yeah?”
“Yes,” she replies. “Thank you, Niall.”
“Anytime, love,” He says, kissing Ivette’s cheek later. She smiles and then gladly returns the favor. “Well, I have to go. I told Greg that I was gonna go see him, Denise and Theo,” He says. “See you all very soon,” He adds, giving me and Ivette a goodbye hug.
“Bye Niall,” Both, Ivette and I, say in unison. We see him walk out of the pub, but not before he says goodbye to Mari, giving her a peck on the lips. “They’re so cute,” Ivette comments.
I nod. “Yeah, just like you,” I add, making her giggle. “There’s that smile!” I exclaim, making her chuckle even more. She gives me a kiss on the cheek and then just let out a sigh. “What’s wrong, love?”
“I don’t want to go home.”
“We don’t have to go home right now, I can take you later.”
“No, I don’t want to go home tonight,” she specifies.
I nod, understanding what she means and thinking of a solution. Of course I have one, but I’m scared of offering it. I know she’ll be nervous and quite honestly, it makes me nervous too because if the media finds out they’ll be talking about her, and I said I was done with that. I don’t want her to bring her into all this mess.
After a while of thinking, I just say it. “You can always stay at my place, if you want,” I say. Fuck it. If the media finds out there’s nothing I can do to stop it, but what they’ll realize is that Ivette is not like any other girl out there. She’s not like the other girls I’ve been with before. She’s special, different, and they’ll know that she’ll be in my life for more than one night.
“What?” she asks surprised and a bit nervous too, I know it.
“You heard me,” I say. “It’s only if you want to though,” I add.
“I mean, I would love to, really,” she says. “But, I don’t know. I’m kind of… a bit nervous about it,” she admits. I just grin at her because she’s so cute sometimes.
“C’mon, babe. Don’t worry too much about it,” I say. “Just see it as one of our lazy days.”
She smiles and then nods. “Alright,” she replies. “I’ll stay with you.” And I swear at that moment there was nothing else that could make me smile bigger.
After hanging out at the pub for a while we finally leave the place and head to mine. We said goodbye to Mari and promise her we would hang out soon. I could tell that she was a bit worried about Ivette, but I made sure to let her know that she was going to be okay.
When we get to my place, I’m happy to see that Louis is not home which means that we have the place to ourselves.
“Where’s Louis?” Ivette asks.
I shrug. “He’s probably at Eleanor’s,” I reply.
“I see.”
“Would you like anything to drink?” I offer.
She nods. “Tea, please,” She says as she sits on the couch and takes her shoes off before bring her legs up to her chest and taking her phone out. She’s probably gonna call Nicholas to let him know that she won’t be coming home tonight.
.
After drinking our tea and watching some show on the telly, we headed to my room and got ready for bed. I lend Ivette one of my sweatpants and shirts and I must admit that she looked adorable in them. We were now cuddling, just like we did on our lazy days. Her head on my chest, my hand resting on her back slowly going up and down her spine. I could sense she was starting to fall asleep, but there was something I wanted to do first.
“Babe?”
“Hmm?”
“Tell me a secret,” I said.
“Mm… I’m kind of glad that you met my parents and that they seemed to like you, but I can’t help but still be pissed at them,” She says.
“I guess that’s understandable, but maybe you should try and form a relationship with them whilst they’re here,” I reply.
“Why? They’re just going to leave again,” She mutters.
I’m not sure if I understood what she said, so that’s why I ask her to repeat herself. “What?”
“Nothing,” she says quickly. “What’s your secret?” she changes topic. I guess since she doesn’t want to talk about it I’ll let it slide.
I smile at myself because she can’t see me and because of what I’m about to say. Not to sound cocky or anything, but I’m feeling pretty confident at this moment. “My secret is gonna be a question, if that makes any sense,” I say, not really sure how to explain it. “I guess it will once I ask the question. Or maybe not… I’m starting to confuse my—”
“Just ask the question, Harry!” She exclaims. This time, all her attention on me now that she’s sitting up a bit.
I chuckle at her impatience. “Would you like to be my girlfriend?” I finally ask. Although the room is dark, the moon is shining through the window, which gives me the opportunity to still see her face. She doesn’t reply for quite a while, but I know everything’s good since a big smile is plastered on her face. Suddenly, she throws herself at me – if that’s even possible since she was basically on top of me— and captures my lips in hers. My eyes widen for bit, not expecting that at all, but I quickly close them and kiss her back. I can feel her smiling through the kiss and it only makes me smile. I cup one of her cheeks and bring her face closer to mine, if that’s even possible. Her hands go to the back of my head and she starts playing with my hair, but before this starts to get more heated, I pull away slightly. “Hmm, is that a yes?” I mumble, my lips still touching hers.
She chuckles. “Yes,” she whispers, still smiling.
I grin and bring her even closer to me, taking her lips in mine and kissing her again.
