Chapter Fourty Two
After saying goodbye to everyone I wanted to. The only thing really left was to actually leave.
Sure, we were only going up California. Don't ask me why we couldn't just drive up there and have a long ass road trip. Billie said the plane flight wasn't any of their ideas. I guess going into a big industry you don't make little decisions like that.
Billies house by now was completely empty. Not even TV to watch, been sitting around on the floor. Just today they packed up Billies bed. If I was right to believe, none of the furniture was actually being kept.
Where we would be staying were houses pre prepared. With furniture and what not. Since... it's a temporary place. The only thing I think Billie was really bothered about was his car and all the 'sentimental' stuff.
Every time I walked around in this house my foot steps echoed. It was all so empty and naked.
"Are you ready?" Billie popped his head through the other room as he stared at me stood in the middle of what was the living room. I looked at him unsure. Not like my answer would change anything. "What is it?" He asked.
"I don't know?"
Billie walked over to me. "We can stop by and grab coffee first?"
It was early in the morning, so we could get for our flight on time. I think someone else was picking up Billies car at the airport and driving it up? I don't know, I don't really ask about things like this.
"Yeah." I forced a smile, although something felt wrong. "I think coffees what I need,"
Billie nodded grinning back, as we made our way out of the house to the front door. He locked it posting the keys back through the letter box before we made our way to his car.
Something just wasn't feel right. We climbed inside Billies car as he started it up and we began to make our way to the café before the airport.
"You're not very talkative this morning," Billie picked up, his eyes in front.
I tried to think of another excuse, or the real reason I wasn't talkative. "Getting up early in the morning isn't my thing,"
"You can always catch sleep on the flight I guess," he shrugged. "Even if it's a short one,"
"Are Tre and Mike meeting us at the airport?"
"Yeah, once we get off our plane there should be a cab to take us to the new place we'll be living,"
"So... we're moving in?"
"Well yeah?"
"That's weird," I mumbled, sort of realising something.
"You must've realised we'd be moving in before this surely?"
"I did," I admitted. "But I guess it didn't clock in we'd be moving in together. Into a new house together,"
"Are you... upset about that?"
"No-" I glanced over at him fast. "Of course I'm not. I'm happy- I'm excited- I never realised we'd really be moving in together. Y'know- like couples do?"
Billie couldn't help but let out half a chuckle at my response, before he turned the cars steering wheels parking on the side of the road. I looked through the window to see we we're already at the café.
Getting out the car, Billie and I walked in together and ordered a coffee. As I was waiting for my coffee, I noticed someone somewhat familiar wiping one of the tables as Billie and I stood next to the counter.
"Whose that?" Billie asked me, noticing how hard I was staring at the back of this persons head.
"I think...?" I resisted to say it. Because I wasn't so sure. "I think it's Tyler y'know?"
Bills snorted loudly with laughter. I elbowed him hard to try and make him shut up, but it was purely to late because Tyler, who now I'm definitely sure it was, had turned around to look at us.
With his little apron. Sorry sucker.
"Great going Billie," I mumbled.
"Oh come on," He gave me an innocent smile. "I couldn't help it,"
Tyler rolled his eyes at the mere sight of his obviously favourite two people. He turned back around trying to continue what he had been doing.
But that didn't stop Billie and I from talking about him.
"I can't believe he's working here now, looks like I quit just in time,"
"You're not gonna go speak to him... are you?"
I looked back at Billie more closely. With some what offence as well as confusion. "Is that a joke?"
"What? No- no I just though- since you're leaving I thought you would've,"
"Not every story needs closure. I think I left it on a pretty nice note last time,"
"What? You pouncing at him?"
"Exactly that,"
We collected our coffees after staring judgingly at Tyler who for sure noticed. Before leaving with laughter at the idiot.
I knew what Billie was getting on about, those cliché movies where you're 'enemies' with someone. Then before you leave or they do, they explain why they did what they did and you come to a mutual understanding and forgive. Well, I always hated those movies.
I didn't need closure from Tyler. Or a reason. And to be honest- I don't think I really care anymore.
Because beleive it or not, Billie was actually right in the end, I didn't partially need revenge. I just kinda needed to cool off- let the situation seem stupid. And- well it did now in retrospect.
I smirked continuing to watch him clean tables through the car and café window, until Billie drove away. Drinking our coffee on the journey we finally made it to the airport.
That's where Mike and Tre were. Plane tickets in each of our hands, we sat on some seats inside waiting for an announcer to tell us when our plane was due to leave ground.
"If we swap seats, then you won't feel sick next to the window," Tre continued in his and Mikes conversation.
"I don't get sick from the window seat Tre. I'm keeping my seat,"
"Fine- fine I'll make a deal. If you give me the window seat- you can have it on the way back,"
"There is no way back,"
"That was my secret point,"
"Will you both give over?" Billie asked, leaning his head back as he closed his eyes for a second.
Billie and I had slept late last night, thanks to packing. So I couldn't even blame him for being so cranky.
"Don't you think I should get the window seat Billie?" Tre asked him. "I mean- Mike just takes photos of the clouds on his phone for most of the ride,"
Billie lifted his head back up. "I don't care about the window seat Tre,"
You'd kind of just assume that Tre and Mike acted adultly. Since... well they are adults. But- they don't. Especially Tre. I guess I can see in better detail now how the two of them and Billie stuck together for so long.
"Well I do," Mike finally breathed out. Returning into the conversation. "And you're not having it. End of,"
"Not if I run for it,"
"It's a plane. Not your moms front seat in her windstar Tre,"
There squabbling was interrupted as the speakers through out the airport played. "Flight sixteen asks it's passengers to start boarding the plane. Please make sure to show your tickets before boarding and follow all precautions on the plane. The plane will be leaving ground soon, thank you,"
Tre looked over at the three of us. "Is that our flight?"
"That's our plane Tre." Billie nodded, placing his hands on his knees as he stood up. Stretching out.
All of our luggage had been dropped off at the off ramp around the front of the airport. Where it'd be sorted out there and make its on way onto the plane. So we all stood up, just our plane tickets in hand as we began to make our way to the front of the airport where we'd board our plane.
"Have you ever been on a plane before?" Billie asked, walking beside me.
"Why would I of needed to?"
"Alright, I'll take that as a no,"
"Course I haven't Billie Joe- do I get to sit at a window seat?"
"Oh gosh- I'm not doing this again,"
"What?" I laughed. "I only wanna know,"
"The window seat is mine,"
"Why so? You've been on planes before- I bet you've sat on a load of plane window seats,"
"Maybe I have,"
I grunted, looking away from him as he started to smile. Mike and Tre walking infront, they made their way to the boarding gates first showing their tickets. In a rush for the window seat.
When Billie and I caught up, we both showed our plane tickets before passing through the doorway and making our way to where the plane was.
Once boarding the plane, Mike by no surprise managed to sit in the window seat and turn of events Billie gracefully stepped down off his ego to allow me to sit in the window seat. A row in front of Mike and Tre.
The plane trip wasn't long. I mean- it was only up further the state. I hardly got any sleep with how uncomfortable I was, unlike Billie Joe beside me who wouldn't stop with his snoring.
When the plane finally landed, we got off empty handed. Our suite cases and what not had made their own way delivered to the house, we'd get there before they would.
Billies car was being driven up here, along with Tre's and Mike. Which meant we were met with a cab at the off airport that took us. The cab dropped us off in order of Tre first at his temporary place, then Mike, lastly Billie and I.
"Y'know, that house looks kinda big to say it's just me and you," I mumbled, stood in the front garden as Billie thanked the cab driver.
As I heard the car drive away, Billie stood before beside me. "It's just temporary, don't get too use to it,"
"You even got the keys?"
He dug his hands into his pocket. Hearing a clash of metal as he pulled out some keys with a smug smile. "I got them in the mail a few days before the plane ride,"
We walked down the garden as Billie inserted the keys into the door. For a few first moments struggling to unlock it. Before the door opened and he stepped in, the echos bouncing around the empty house.
"Is this house completely empty?" I questioned confused, walking behind as I kicked the door shut.
"There's basic furniture. Nothing homely," He replied, popping his head over through a door way.
"Explains the echoing I guess,"
We walked forward into the first door way of the hallway. Which I could only guess was the sitting room. A red corner sofa sat. In front was a television stand with a flat screen tv above on the wall. And that was kinda it. Apart from a clock on the wall and an empty vase on the window sill.
"Beats my moms living room," I mumbled. "She use to have so many useless decoration junk. The kinda stuff all moms put up, random quotes engraved in wood or ugly flowers no one really liked,"
"Well... it's definitely the opposite of that. Maybe we should go shopping for some random engravements?" Billie looked over at me teasingly.
I rolled my eyes, shoving him in his arm. "Shut up,"
"This reminds me of the holiday house we rented out this one time when we went to visit family when I was a kid,"
"Y'know, I've never really heard you talk about your family," I realised, speaking out loud.
Billie rolled his shoulders. "Cause I don't have any anymore, that's why,"
"What does that mean?"
"I don't reach out to my mom, dead dad, siblings have their own families to look after,"
I paused, wondering what to even say. I guess I never realised how solitary Billie was. But I mean- look at him? He seemed like he didn't care. When he smiled especially with a shrug.
"Come on, let's explore the rest of the house. Not rehearse my therapy sessions." He budged me with his shoulder with a grin, before walking out of the room.
I followed him, shaking the conversation of my shoulders as we continued.
Down straight off the hallway was the kitchen. There was a cupboard under the stairs, a sitting room next to the living room with a table in it. Upstairs was a large bedroom, two spare rooms, a bathroom and even another closet.
Billie parked on the bed of what would be for the next few weeks our room. Throwing himself back on the uncovered mattress as I ventured to the laundry cupboard in the room in hopes to find a bed sheet.
"What ya doing sunshine?" Billie asked, tone of annoyance.
"Finding a bed sheet sunshine,"
"Not a fan of the nickname sunshine hmm?"
"I'm rather not a fan of naked mattresses." I retorted, pulling a lavender coloured fitted sheet. "Get moving, this needs to go on the mattress,"
"I'm rather comftable,"
"On an uncovered mattress? I beg to differ,"
"Why don't you come join me,"
Let out a breath, my arms dropped to my sides as I stared down at him. "Move,"
"Where's your manners?"
"This old argument again?"
"Oh come on, remember what you said? It's a basics human trait to say your pleases and your thank yous?" He raised his brows, hands behind his head as he looked up at me.
"Yes. And If I recall rightly, you never actually thanked me for bringing those texts books to you. Instead you picked me up and they went all over the floor,"
"Meh. It was more flirty the way I remember it,"
"Yes yes alright Mr Armstrong, now shift it,"
He rolled his eyes as he gave in, sitting up as he got off the mattress of the bed. "Yes Miss Valentine,"
I ignored his comment beginning to put the bed fitting on. Although I hadn't asked him, Billie took another corner helping me out. Bringing up new conversations as we stood on seprate sides of the bed pulling the sheet over.
"We're probably gonna have to go shopping tomorrow," Billie spoke, tucking the sheet under the mattress.
"Shopping? What... like grocery shopping?"
"Yep,"
"Uhg. I hate grocery shopping,"
"Isn't it weird? All this stuff?"
I paused looking back up at Billie, but he was already focusing on me. "What... do you mean?"
"Y'know...? Moving into a house together... making the bed- shopping? Doesn't it feel kinda like..."
"Feels adultly,"
"Don't you think?"
"That was the feeling I had earlier," I realised. Letting go off the bed sheet as it sprung back over the mattress.
But Billie ignored. "What feeling?"
"When I was stood in the empty living room this morning. And- and when I told you I realised we'd be moving in together. It- it feels like the start of like- something new- and- and I don't mean that cliché. I mean like it's all different. It's all gonna be different. Y'know? It's like we're really together now. Like those newly couples when they get their first house together,"
Billie just smiled at me. Looking at me with what I wanted to say looked like admiration, but maybe I was over thinking it.
I shuffled, standing up straight."What is it?"
"I can't believe you're the same Mallory Valentine from my music class? How did we go from detention to acting like old souls making the bed together?"
My face heated up a little, I knew I was somewhat blushing. Which was odd, I didn't know I'd still be doing this this deep into our relationship. "I don't even know how I put up with you so long. You were such a smug bastard,"
He smirked.
"I mean- you still are,"
"C'monnn, you love that about me,"
"Maybe? But don't mistake that I use to hate it too,"
"You were easily the most sarcastic hell raiser I had to put up with. Having to drag you off some dude before you beat the shit out of him? Y'know when I put you in detention I did not think I was signing up for that,"
"Well. You pulled me off him. Stayed with me- even did it again and now we're practically moving in together. Doesn't look like you were that devastates with dealing with a hell raiser,"
He grew a large, affectionate smile. "You're right. Couldn't help but still want you I guess,"
A/N: THIS STORY IS SO NEARLY OVER- and I'm so excited. It's been such a pain to update recently.
And I feel so bad because it was only a teacher fan fic for like less than half of the book. But it's BRANDED AS A TEACHER FAN FIC.
Maybe some time In furtive I'll give writing another teacher fan fic a stab.
Anyyyyyyway- thanks for reading and any other support! Stay safe~ <3
