- Noor's POV -

Please don't let it be who I think it is. Please don't let it be who I think it is. Please don't let it be who I think it is.

"Oh! You must be his new secretary!" She flashes her pearly white teeth. "And here I was becoming jealous of the new secretary for no reason!"

This is definitely who I think it is.

Also, what the hell is that supposed to mean?

"Hi, I'm Nadira Fatehi, Yasir's special friend." She winks at him.

Nadira Fatehi... out of all the girls I went to school with, Nadira had to be Mr. Yasir's "special friend".

God, I hate this. I hate this so much.

Nadira Fatehi was a different creature. She was the Regina George, Kathryn Merteuil, and Amber Von Tussle of our high school. I have never thought about taking a life more than I have when I used to see her at school.

I flash her a fake smile. "Noor Malik."

"Noor? Noor from Weston High?" She says in a high pitched tone.

I gulp.

Here comes the horror.

"Yep, that's me." I confirm.

"Oh my God! It's me! Nad!" She says as if that would excite me.

"Nad...?" I pretend to have memory loss.

"I know you know me, silly! Everyone knew me! I was literally student council president, prom queen, captain of the basketball team, oh, the list goes on."

Just as self-centred and narcissistic as ever. I can't believe she was one of the most popular girls in our school.

"Oh... I think I'm starting to remember. You also threw up on stage during one of your plays, right?" I try not to smirk.

Her expression changes into stone. "I don't know what you're talking about. But I was in that play though, I played Juliet!"

"You know her?" Mr. Yasir finally interjects, asking Nadira.

"We were in the same grade and school from elementary school all the way until we graduated high school." She answers.

This really became a high school reunion somehow.

I put the bag of food in Mr. Yasir's desk and excused myself after letting him know I'll be going on my lunch break.

"I dropped it off beforehand but didn't know I would have time to come by. Or else I would've brought it up myself and saved your poor secretary the trouble." She says to Mr. Yasir in an incredibly annoying voice.

There's no way he's stupid enough to believe that. She obviously had someone else bring it because she couldn't bother to carry it up herself. Anyone who knows her for five seconds knows she has everyone else doing everything for her.

I close the door behind me and sigh a breath of relief. I couldn't breathe in that room. Seeing Nadira brought back so many nasty memories. She is, or was, a truly awful person back in school.

Mr. Yasir may be an asshole but I can't imagine spending my time with Nadira no matter what his personality may be. She literally thinks of no one but herself and she's always obvious about it.

But then again, she's gorgeous. Her dark, chocolatey brown looks like it would be silk to the touch. She has those seductive, smouldering light brown eyes that I'm sure men love to stare into. Her laughter sounds like a posh, cute sound. She's slim but with curves in the right places.

Am I jealous? Yes. But do I want to be her? Absolutely not. She's a witch and not the type I find amusing.

I decide to eat my lunch at my desk just to get some work done while I eat. Hopefully, this way, I can leave work on time.

"Good afternoon, Noor!" It's Lateef.

My heart does that flutter thing that I hate so much because I start feeling nervous.

"Hey! How are you?" I smile while trying to swallow the last bit of my food quickly without choking.

"I just need to check in with Yasir for something."

"He's in there with Nadira." I let him know beforehand.

His expression drops. "What the hell is she always doing here?"

I wanted to scream: YOU DON'T LIKE HER EITHER?

But I thought that wouldn't be professional.

"Uh... she came to drop off his lunch, I believe." I say.

"But she did she bring it upstairs or did you?" He asks in a tone where he already knew the answer.

EXACTLY! My mind screams.

"I did."

He sighs as he runs his hand through his hair. "Will Yasir never learn?" He mumbles to himself.

He walk into Mr. Yasir's office and closes the door. Suddenly, a few minutes later, I hear yelling and screaming. And seconds later, the door to Mr. Yasir's office flies open.

"You're bitch for doing this to him! I don't know what the fuck he sees in you!" Lateef is yelling.

"I'm the bitch?" Nadira scoffs. "How about be happy for your friend for once?"

"Happy? That he's with you? In your damn dreams. You can't even prove that you love him." His gaze shifts over. "You're more of an idiot than her, Yasir. I can't believe this."

"Watch your words, Lateef. Don't disrespect Nadira like this." Mr. Yasir says in a cautious tone.

Nadira drapes her arm over Yasir's shoulder with an evil smirk on her face. "Darling, you really need more supportive friends."

"She's ruining you! I'm—You know what? Never mind. Fuck you all!" Lateef storms out and leaves.

I do my best to mind my own business (or at least pretend to mind my own business) and eat while typing random words into the computer.

I see Nadira look at her phone and quickly say, "Oh! Will you look at the time? He's expecting me back home by now. I'll see you again soon, darling."

If I could, I'd make a vomiting expression but I don't budge my eyes off of the screen.

She kisses her cheek and says bye to me. I only wave at her and go back to my blank computer screen.

Mr. Yasir was just about to walk back into his office but right before he did, without turning around, he says, "What you saw does not leave this room, understood?"

"Saw what, sir?" I ask innocently.

And I swear, I thought I saw his lips curl into a slight smile before he went back inside.

"Nadira? That's disgusting. Your boss needs to change his taste in women." Farrah looks away in revulsion.

"You're really going through a high school reunion. Also your worst nightmare." Ayesha giggles. "Wait, so Lateef completed teared her down in front of Yasir?"

I nod. "He said almost everything I ever wanted to say to her back in high school. I wish that was me saying all those things, I swear. I'd add in some extra words while I was at it."

"That girl was unbelievable but somehow had everyone wrapped around her fingers. How does that even work? Did no one have a brain in that school?" Farrah rolls her eyes.

"At this point, I'm wondering if my boss has a brain or not because... Nadira, really? Out of billions of women he could've chosen, he chooses this churail (witch)." I laugh.

But really, she's obviously got the personality of someone who is unbearable, so what's the deal?

• • •

I go through a week of without getting in trouble. In fact, I barely had to see Mr. Yasir because there weren't any meetings or trips he needed to take in the week I started.

I did, unfortunately, have to see Nadira too many times a week. She would find a way to comment on at least one thing about my appearance and it was never a good comment.

One day, I might stab her eyes out with the scissors in my desk.

Today's another normal Monday and I've already started to work on some contracts that Mr. Yasir needs to sign later today.

Suddenly, Mr. Yasir storms out of his office and throws a file across my desk, making me jump out of my seat.

"What the hell is this?" He asks me with anger lacing his eyes.

I just blink at him. "Uh... I... I don't know."

"You mixed up all the documents in this file." He raises his voice.

I look at the file and I have never seen this before. "I didn't organize this one. I've never seen it."

"Oh? Is that so? Do you see anyone else here who would be doing the job?" He asks rhetorically.

"No, but—"

"Fix it. I'm giving you 15 minutes to fix it." He says.

"But sir, it's over a 100 pa—"

"15 minutes or I terminate your contract with the company." He walks back inside his office.

I stare at the pile of documents scattered across my desk.

"15 minutes? Is he crazy? How am I going to finish this in 15 minutes?"

Asshole!

But I can't risk him terminating the contract.

I flip through the documents as if my life depends on it; taking out papers that were errors and putting in correct papers.

I'm sure I got a million paper cuts by the end because my fingers are slightly stinging. I look at the timer I set up, a minute left and I'm done.

I sigh and slide down my chair to catch a breath.

Mr. Yasir comes out of his office and I quickly stand up.

"It's done, sir." I say.

He doesn't say anything regarding the documents. "There's a meeting in half an hour, correct?"

I nod.

"Bring the file containing contracts for the new marketing agency."

"Now?" I ask as my stomach makes a quiet noise from not eating lunch properly today.

It's 4:00 PM, who holds a meeting so late in the afternoon?

He sighs as if he's annoyed. "Yes, now."

But I quickly begin to realize that I won't see Nadira because of the meeting. I smile to myself and quickly grab the correct file (double checking it, of course) and my coat.
