chapter 20
Aarna's POV:
"Btw, what's the name of that lucky guy?" She asked me.
I smiled at her and about to say the name of my handsome dude but before I could open my mouth to answer her, I heard the nickname of mine which was only reserved for one person.
"Piggy"
My head immediately snapped in that direction to see the owner of that voice. Hearing that nickname after a long time, my eyes blurred a little.
I saw that Adi Anna was standing at the entrance of the backyard with his hands in his pocket.
When he saw me glancing at him, he managed to pass me a small smile. Without responding to him, I immediately turned my head back with a huff and avoided looking at him as I was damn angry at him.
I held chinnu with my hands and started playing with him as if I didn't notice his presence at all. Ankitha Akka too remained silent.
"Piggy, are you angry with me?" I heard his voice from my behind and I just huffed at him as an answer.
"You surely are angry with me then, "
"It's good that you know, " I scoffed at him.
"Okay, stop being angry with me. Will you?" He asked me with a sigh.
"Sorry sir, I don't have a right to be angry with you even if you went MIA for two years. I don't have a right to hold a grudge against you for not spending time with me even after your return." I spat at him angrily.
"I am sorry," He said with the guilt clearly visible on his face.
Seeing this, I chided myself for being such a meanie. I knew his condition very well yet I was taunting him here. Damn Aarna.
"It's okay. I shouldn't have behaved like that but I missed you so much, Anna. You didn't think about us before leaving. So I am just angry at you." I said with my teary eyes.
"I know but at that time, leaving everyone and everything was the only option left for me. Now I am back for good. I promise I never leave you all again." He said sincerely and I nodded at him with a smile.
"Are you here to pick us up? Daksha Akka said that she will send the driver, then why did you come to pick us up?"
"One is busy with mom and another one is on leave. I went to meet a client today. Since I have something to discuss with Lakshmi maa, I thought to pick you up as well So consider me as your driver for today, piggy" he said.
"You better stop calling me with that name," I warned him playfully.
"Never. You know the reason for calling you with that name better than anyone." He said.
I pouted at him in a sulking manner as I pretty well knew the reason.
Since our, both families were pretty close, so when I was just five years old, I always used to stay at their house.
Indra's Anna's family used to stay in Mumbai at that time. So Daksha Akka's home was like my own home.
Both Daksha Akka and Adi Anna used to pamper me a lot and always treated me as their little sister.
The reason why he was calling me 'piggy' was when I was young, whenever it rained, I used to sneak out of the house to play in the mud, even if they both kept a tight watch on me.
Since I used to be quite fond of mud, Adi Anna started calling me Piggy from then on. Even my whinings and sulkings wouldn't stop him from calling me with that name. So as time passed by, I got pretty used to that name.
I noticed Ankitha was sitting there awkwardly while gazing at the front. Damn, how could I forget about her??
"Btw, I forgot to introduce you guys. Anna, her name is Ankitha. Akka, he is Aditya, Daksha Akka's brother, and mine as well." I introduced them.
Adi Anna just nodded at her slowly in acknowledgment and she mumbled a quick hello before diverting her attention to Chinnu who was looking at us with his droopy eyes.
I think it's his nap time.
So I slowly patted at his back and lull him into sleep.
"Who is he?" Anna asked.
"My son, " I told him proudly.
He looked at me with surprise but nodded at me in an understanding manner.
I smiled at him and saw that Chinnu was fast asleep while sucking onto his little thumb. I removed it and stood up from the stone bench slowly while holding him properly.
"Let's get going then, " they both nodded at me.
I walked ahead and went inside the home. After heading into his nursery, I placed him gently on his cradle. After that, I held his little hand and kissed it softly.
"I'm going to miss you a lot. Behave well..okay. Don't trouble anyone. I promise I'll take you with me soon." I said in a low voice.
Gazing at his serene face once again, I placed a soft kiss on his forehead, before heading out while blinking my tears away.
When I went outside, I saw that Adi Anna was talking with Lakshmi ma and Ankitha Akka was looking at the children that were playing outside in the garden.
I moved to her and stood beside her while waiting for Adi Anna. Suddenly I remembered something after looking at her.
So I immediately took out my phone and typed a message to Adi Anna before sending it. I saw him, taking out his phone.
When he noticed that the message was from me, he glanced at me while raising his eyebrows in a questioning manner. I just gestured him to read the content.
After reading it, he looked at Ankitha Akka in a scrutinizing manner before started typing something on his phone.
Immediately my phone pinged indicating that I had received a message. Knowing very well, from whom it was, I opened it and read the content.
I'll think about it - Adi Anna.
I nodded at him with a smile when I saw him, coming in our direction. He gestured us to follow him and we did the same. When he settled himself in the car, we too got into the car.
The entire journey was filled with silence until I decided to break it.
"Anna, drop me first, "
I saw that Ankitha Akka was about to retort but my next words put her words to stop.
"Because Ankitha Akka's house is in the same way as your company. So it's better if you drop me first as mine is completely in the opposite direction of yours." I suggested and saw him nodded at me slowly.
Ankitha Akka too didn't try to argue more. When we reached home, we both exchanged our mobile numbers. I got out of the car and waved at them.
But before going inside, I again reminded Adi Anna, " Don't forget about it."
He nodded at me shortly and started driving away from there.
When I went inside the gate, I saw that Dhruv's car was parked there. Seeing this, I excitedly ran towards the car.
I saw him sitting inside the car and was talking over the phone while eyeing Adi Anna's moving car from the rearview mirror as the gates of the house was still open.
He must have arrived just now.
When he saw me, he ended the call and joined me before getting out of his car.
"Why are you home at this time? You should be at the company..right?" I asked him.
He immediately stopped in his tracks and glanced at me.
"Should I go back?" He asked while narrowing his eyes at me.
"No. I didn't mean it that way," I hurriedly waved my hand in the air indignantly.
"Idiot," He muttered to himself. I chose to ignore that and started walking ahead.
"Hey, you didn't answer my question yet," I asked him again when I caught up his pace.
"Nothing. Today's meeting went well. I had lunch with Indra and Arjun. Since I don't have anything important in my schedule, I thought to come and pick you up but Arjun said that Daksha already sent her brother there. So I came home. Isn't this enough?"
Satisfied with his reply, I nodded at him with a bright smile and dragged him inside while clinging onto his arm all the way, dismissing his attempts of freeing himself from me.
When we went inside, I released my hold on him after seeing Athayya in the living room. I greeted her and when she saw us together, she smiled at us brightly.
"Did you guys come together?" She asked us excitedly.
"No," I told her and she immediately glared at Dhruv.
"Are you too busy to even pick your wife?" She questioned him and when I was about to explain her everything, I noticed Dhruv, rolling his eyes at her before making his way upstairs.
Athayya smiled at me and I shook my head before following him into our room.
By the time, he got freshen up and came out of the washroom, Athayya sent someone with the food to our room. I arranged them on the table and served him with the food.
"Dhruv, could it be that you are adopted by your family? If not, why does Athayya always chide you and is so willing to gang up against you?" I asked while nibbling onto my food.
He threw me a "are you crazy" look and shifted his concentration to his food, ignoring me completely. Still, I didn't give up.
"You must be adopted, "
"..."
"Probably from an adoption home, "
"..."
"Maybe got picked up from streets too, "
"..."
The more I thought about it, the more I felt that my theory was correct. Otherwise, how can a mother is so willing to bully her own son so much?
I better put a full stop to my peculiar speculations.
So ignoring the stinking eyes that he was passing at me, I coolly had my food.
After we had our fill, I was setting everything on the tray to carry them down but stopped in the middle when I remembered something.
Glancing at him who was drinking the water, I blabbed immediately, "Dhruv, how about having a baby?"
Hearing my question, he immediately choked on his water and started coughing violently. I instantly rushed to his side and started patting his back slightly.
Poor guy..must be scared out of his wits by my sudden generous notion.
After calming himself down a little, he looked at me solemnly and asked, " Have you gone crazy or what? What's with you and your weird questions today?"
Scoffing at me, he stood up from the couch and went to the balcony.
"I am serious yaar, " I whined.
"Stop it already. How can you think of having a baby of our own, given the condition of our marriage? I already told you to take it slow. You are still young and we have so much time ahead. Let's cultivate feelings for each other slowly. Okay?" He explained to me patiently as if he was teaching a kid.
"Dhruv, you are misunde-" He cut me off in the middle.
"I said what I want to say and I don't have any interest in having a child now. So please respect my decision."
Damn..this man. As if I am dying to have a baby with the 'mighty' him.
"Look, Dhruv. Let me spea-" He again interrupted me.
"Can't you understand it? Enough of this discussion. I don't want to talk about it anymore." Saying this, he was about to step into the room from the balcony.
But I held his hand and dragged him back. I somehow succeeded in pinning his back to the parapet.
I tried to look directly into eyes but damn this height of mine, so I pulled him forward forcefully by holding his shirt, making him bend till my eye level.
"What the hell do you think you are doing??" He asked me with a huff.
"You damn man. Will you let me speak for once. I ain't so desperate to have a baby with you. Moreover, you aren't that good looking, for me to go gaga over you. I got pretty high standards. I married you because I pitied you thinking that no one would marry a boring and brooding person like you."
Hearing my words, he rolled his eyes while trying to release my hold on his tee-shirt.
"You can talk without holding it too, " He said in a daunting tone
"No. I want to intimidate you. So let me stay like this for a while. Well, I am going off the track. Where am I? Yeah. I got so many pursuits when I was still studying at University. It's such a pity that I got married to you. You ungrateful brat. Be glad that you got a pretty and cute one as your wife."
"If you are done with your self-praising session, can you please get the hell out of my way? I have so many things to do."
Seeing that he was really going to leave, I decided to stop stating the facts for a while and started addressing the main concern.
"Wait..wait. What I want to ask is what's your opinion on adopting a baby? Do you have any qualms as the child has to be your own blood and kin? I mean.. If I say that I want to adopt a baby, will you be okay with that?" I asked him, awaiting nervously for his reply.
He looked at me seriously for a good second and turned his head away when he noticed my hopeful eyes.
Seeing that he wasn't going to reply, I sighed in disappointment and stepped back a little before releasing my hold on him. When he was about to say something, I beat him to it and started speaking.
"Well. Sorry about that. Just consider that as we didn't have this conversation. I won't mention this anymore in the future." Saying this in a low voice, I went into the room and headed downstairs by holding the dishes in a tray.
"Idiot. You are such a big idiot and not to forget that big stupid mouth of yours. You already decided to tell him when the time is right na, then why did you blabber everything now itself? No need for pitying you for getting hurt because you asked for it and you very much deserved it for having such a blabbering mouth." I scolded myself in vexation while walking in the direction of the kitchen.
Thanks for reading.
Hope you liked the update.
