Jay vs Musicals
Alright so. Nobodies perfect, we all make mistakes.
But apparently I make them a lot so push through the cringe.
------
Okay so whenever I'm introduced to a new musical I just like to listen to the soundtrack, then read the summary, then relisten to the soundtrack.
Now there comes sacrifice with this system. While I get to listen to the soundtrack of the musical without knowing what it's about and getting to experience it like a new episode of your favorite TV show- I literally know minimal about it so...
While I try not to do this I can't help but put together a story of my own to fill in the gaps between songs, which comes out with me making this whole other story in my head and then reading the description or watching a bootleg or etc. to get the actual story [Or animatics that have dialogue] So Heeres some of the mistakes I make when initially listening to the soundtrack for the first time and trying to piece things together [some of you might like to use the term 'Noob']
[Hamilton is the only musical that's an exception because the whole plot is in the songs]
Be More Chill:
-I thought Rich and Michael were the same character the whole way through my first listen [I thought they were both Michael]
-I thought Rich was tall
-I thought Michael/Rich was one of the popular kids and Jeremy was his scrub
-I thought Michael was wearing his read hoodie in the bathroom
Alright so that wasn't even the worst of it- DEH I think is the cringiest mistake
Dear Evan Hansen
-I thought the plot was that Evan had to write letters to his alter ego 'Connor Murphy' to make himself feel better about himself [Basically Evan writes letters as if Connor is sending them to him but really Connor is just an 'OC' that Evan made up that he wishes he could be like] and someone finds the letters and posts about them and suddenly Evan has to make a bunch of letters about his alter ego writing to him and him writing back until he becomes popular and then it all blows up in his face [This sounds like the plot to a bad Disney movie... tbh]
Mama Mia
-W H A T I S T H I S NONE OF THESE SONGS ADD UP TOGETHER
[The dialogue in Mana Mia makes it all the more important and connects things so...just watch it don't even bother with the music at first just watch it and then listen]
-It's okay I then read/watched the real plots and I get it all now TwT
-Jay
