TW: dead bodies, death, swearing

Alex's POV

Although Hadley didn't live super far from me the drive to my house felt like it took hours. When we arrived at the front door of my house it was wide open.

"Okay, Logan, Janus, and I will go into my house to check out the inside of my house while everyone else checks the outside," I said making sure to sound authoritative despite the fear I felt in the pit of my stomach. I looked back at the house only to have to turn around again to the sound of someone clearing their throat.

"AHEM!" Roman said fake clearing his throat dramatically, "And why are we listening to you because last I checked you were not one of the smart ones and you also ruined all of the antidotes that we had."

"We are listening to me because this is my house! I lived here and I know what's important and what isn't and I refuse to be bullied by someone so rude that if I didn't know any better I'd think you were the evil twin out of you and Remus! No offense Remus, you're great."

"Oh, none taken, Toothpaste!" Remus replied to me after totally not checking out Emile's butt. (Thanks to someone from my group chat for the nickname idea!)

"Now, if no one else wants to complain about how I pick the group of people that goes into my house to check for zombies then we shall be on our way," I said looking around.

"Let's go before the zombies find us," Logan said.

I have no idea what is wrong with Roman lately he's seemed okay. I'm going to talk to him later to find out what's going on but for now, I have to check out my old house.

We go in through the kitchen and quickly check the entire house but as soon as we get upstairs I have to keep the tears from falling. The room looked exactly the same except for the unbreathing bodies of my sisters. I scream and fall to the ground in tears then suddenly everything is moving in slow-motion around and all I can hear are my screams and sobs.

Hadley

I suddenly hear a scream that I know for a fact can only come from Alex. We all rush upstairs with no hesitation but Patton got there before any of us. When I got up there I saw the dead bodies of my two cousins.

"No," I whisper and turn to hug Kyle.

"It's okay, Hads, it's going to be okay," Kyle says as he hugs me tightly.

I turn slightly to see Alex being bear-hugged by Patton. He truly is the best father the group could ask for. I let go of Kyle and give him a weak smile before making my way through the mildly crowded hall before kneeling near Alex and tapping her should. She looks up at me and I quickly hug her.

"Alex, we should perform an autopsy on the bodies to make sure that they died from natural causes and not a zombie bite," Logan stated in a more monotone voice than normal, "Based on the smell in the room I would say that they have only been dead for 2 days."

"Oh my God, I could've saved them," Alex says mostly to herself and before anyone can reassure her that it isn't her fault she runs back to the van.

"I'll go after her," Roman says before anyone can stop him he is also gone.

"GODDAMMIT, LOGAN!" I yell.
