XXXIV
In the next several weeks, I become so focused on training that my conversation with Cassandra and our "date" is no longer the first thing I think about when I wake up. "Well done, Matt." Matthew pats me on the back and I grin at him.
Every time he compliments me, I feel one step closer to becoming a Dauntless member and leaving my initiate status behind. Cassandra shoots me a thumbs up sign from across the room, and despite Eric's glare, I smile at her.
"Okay, initiates. That's enough for today. The real fun starts tomorrow. You'll be paired up with someone else and practice your fighting skills. See you all bright and early." Fear suddenly takes hold of me. What if I'm forced to fight Cassandra?
I'm so lost in thought that I don't even notice Eric walk over to me. "You're mine tomorrow." He smiles, his pierced face even more menacing than usual in the training room's low lighting.
