Chapter Five - Project Week

It was that special time of the school year: Project Week. The very week when students would exhibit their work for their teachers to grade. The very week when students would present their projects in front of their fellow schoolmates. Since two months before the event itself, they had already begun preparing.

For the First Graders, they would do the project individually or in pairs. Philip did his project with his friend Louis, and for young people at their age you would've said that they'd done a job well done.

For their first project, they composed a two-stanza rhyming poem for English. For Latin, they translated their poem and recited it. For Math and Science, they presented a simple experiment and included all the calculations and research they've made. For Music, they played a piano cover of a Church song. For Art and Social Studies, they presented a 3D model of Jerusalem. And last but not least; for Religious Studies, IT and Civics, they printed a small booklet about laws that were made during Biblical times.

Philip did most of the oral presentation while Louis did most of the research. The teachers were impressed by their output and awarded them a ten on a scale of one-to-ten.

It was the last day of project week, and they only had one last project to exhibit: their poem. It took them a week to compose and translate the poem, so they felt the strong need to score a high mark, they felt confident. It was twenty minutes before they had to present, so they started preparing their poem.

"So where's the poem, Louis?" Philip asked him. Louis' face looked worried, nervous.

"I thought you were holding it," Louis replied.

"No, I gave it to you!"

The two friends ended up in a feud that costed them seven precious minutes. They searched high and low, near and far, yet they couldn't find their project.

"Looking for something?" grinned a boy from another class. He held the poem in his right hand, letting it swing left-and-right from his fingers.

"Can you please give that back? We need it for our project!" said Louis.

"Too late. I didn't have enough time to make my own, so I'm going to use yours and make it mine!"

"Give it back!" Philip ordered, trying to retrieve their work. The boy didn't listen; but instead he tore it apart!

The boy escaped from the scene, cackling to himself. Louis, being a sensitive lad, cried. Philip swore revenge at the boy, comforting his friend afterward.

It was seven minutes to presentation, and they still weren't ready. They tried piecing it together, but it kept on falling apart. They were thinking of composing a new one, but it would take a lot of time.

"This is hopeless," said Louis, "we're never going to get it done."

"Don't say that," said Philip, "because I know someone who could help us."

"Really? Who?"

"It's a secret, Louis. I can't tell you. But don't worry, I just need to be alone. The helper won't like it if I'm with someone else."

Philip then took a sheet of paper, a pen and went to his dorm. He checked the window and the corridor to see if anyone was there. No one.

"Oh My Protector, I Summon Thee!" Philip muttered. The man appeared before him in an instant.

"What's wrong, Philip?" asked the man.

"I need help with my project. Someone tore it to shreds, so I need to make a new one." he replied.

"You didn't remember what you wrote?"

"No, sir."

"Here, I'll write it for you."

The man then reproduced an exact copy of the poem that they lost. Not only did he revive the piece of poetry, he also wrote the Latin translation! Philip expressed his gratitude before the man left. Afterward, Philip ran to his friend to give him the good news.

During the presentation, the two best friends recited their work an received a perfect score! Not only that, but they were applauded!

The boys cheered and celebrated their achievement, and their 'helper' watched them happily.
