Chapter 1
I started down the street. London buzzed all around me as hover cars past and tall buildings loomed overhead.
I got to a small store and knocked five times. The door opened to a tall man holding a key out to me.
"Nice to see you here again, Autumn." He patted my back as I entered.
"Well, Glen I did get a offer on something big." I looked at him and smiled.
"Do you know what it is?" He asked as he rubbed is hand through his light brown hair, which was like mine.
"Nope, but you know what mom always said. Take the offer then ask questions." He laughed.
"Dad would hit you on the head for doing that." He hugged me with one arm. I looked at him and tied my long light brown hair in a pony. Only a strand of hair left next to my face.
"Oh, here you go. I forgot to show you the lab." He opened a door and I walked into it.
In front of me were old wooden stairs leading deep underground. I carefully stepped down on the first step. It squeaked under my feet and I gulped.
"To think this is a well going science research but they don't buy new stairs." I said to my brother as I walked down further.
The walls were brick with white paint over them and water seemed to leak down it. The lights going down were old LED's that made the walkway blue in color. It was sort of creepy down there. I finally saw the bottom ahead and I raced down to get on solid ground. That was a mistake. I slipped on some water and fell forward. I gasped as the floor got terrifyingly close. I felt a hand catch my arm and I was pulled back up. I looked back and saw Glen holding my arm. He grunted as he pulled me back over the side of the stairs for it did not have rails.
I grabbed his hand with my other and lifted my right leg and placed it on the step and pushed up. I moaned as my arms screamed at me with pain.
I was finally back on the stairs. I breathed hard as I stayed close to the wall and continued down.
That was not the first time I nearly fell to my death. Don't ask.
We made it to the bottom with no problem. I looked around and saw a door and walked up to it. I looked at Glen as he walked up behind me. He nodded and I twisted the knob. It opened with no problem and I walked in.
The lights were on and a woman was working on something at a desk in the corner. I saw a chair in the center on a little rise in the floor. It was like a dentist's chair.
"Ah, Autumn I'm glad you made it." Said the woman as she walked up to me.
"Glad I did, Stella." I breathed as looked at the place. We shook hands then she showed me to the chair.
"You'll be sitting here." She patted the chair and gave a non teeth smile.
I took a deep breath and hopped up into it. "Let's do it, I'm as ready as I could ever be." I lay down and placed my head up looking at the dangling light above me.
She went to where my arms were and tied them up to the chair. She did the same to my feet, stomach and head.
"What, will it hurt or something?" I asked looking at Stella.
"Well, ya, ya very much." She bit her lip and gave me a small smile.
"Okay." I responded and shimmied a little. Glen came up next to me and patted my shoulder.
"Do you regret it now?" He looked at me worriedly.
I thought for a second. "Nope." I answered with no waver in my voice. He smiled at me and laughed.
"I don't know if your brave or just stupid sometimes." He walked to a seat and sat down.
I sighed and waited but I could not keep still. I had jitters.
Finally Stella came back with a syringe. She held it up and flicked it twice.
"Maybe a little now." I said with a shaky voice when I saw the size of the needle. Glen laughed, Stella snorted and laughed as well. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
"Ready?" Stella asked and I nodded. "Now this might hurt a lot, just hold still." I looked up again and my breath came in rasps as nerves got the better of me.
I felt her rubbed a wet cloth covered in sanitizer against the injection spot on my neck.
"Here we go." Stella sighed and placed the big needle on my neck. She pushed it in slowly and immediately pain shot through me like wild fire. I clenched my fists and screamed and more was injected into me. More and more pain came. Even after she took it out. I tried to pull my arms up but they were stopped by the restrainers. It was unbearable. I closed my eyes as the pain spread the rest of my body. I felt sweat form on my head as I screamed and screamed. I could not remember the last time I had this much pain course through me. I opened my eyes again. I felt dizzy and the corners of my eyes started to go black.
I was still yelling but everything started to grow faint. I soon started to fall unconscious. The pain was to much. I could not handle it. My brother was stroking my head but that was all I could remember before everything went black around me.
