Chapter 3
Barry looked at Lisa and Len and realized he was scared.
What if they were caught?
"Relax," Len whispered.
"I don't know if I can do this, Lenny," Lisa admitted.
"Of course you can. We all can. I promise you," Len said, and Barry felt like he was drowning.
"What if one of us dies?" Barry whispered.
"That won't happen. Now, let's stop worrying and blow this popsicle stand," Len said, and that's when they ran.
They ran, and Barry felt his blood run through his veins. He barely heard Len or Lisa over the wind in his ears and his feet hitting the ground.
He forgot about Lewis, why he was running, his mother, Lisa, Len, everything.
He never wanted to come back.
Barry would never forget what happened next.
...
When he woke for the second time, he was terrified.
What had happened to common sense!?!
"Calm down, Barry," Dr. Snow ordered.
"I can't! You people are crazy! and where's my real brother?"
"I am your real brother, Barry," Len said.
"Prove it," Barry challenged.
"Lewis Snart was a bad man."
Barry nodded.
He threw himself into Len's arms.
"I love you," he murmured.
He jumped away from Len when he heard someone shout.
"He's ok!" Lisa shouted as she raced in, Shawna right behind her.
"I told you not to tell her!" Len protested.
"I don't listen to you. You know that. Now give me a hug, Barry."
"I don't listen to you," Barry said.
Lisa chuckled. "When you've been in a coma for 9 months, you do."
"Are you my real sister?" Barry asked suspiciously.
Len (He was standing behind Barry) gestured for her to come over.
"He thinks that we're lying," he whispered, "If you tell him something that's not on public records, he'll believe you."
Lisa walked back in front of him.
She pulled down her shirt, just above her bra, and showed him a scar.
"This one was from a knife, which you witnessed, and I got it for failing to pick a lock. Correct?"
Barry nodded.
He gestured to his bicep. "This one was from a fist, which you witnessed, and I got it for punching a boy at school."
Lisa nodded sadly.
"Why did you punch Jimmy?"
"He threatened to hurt Lenny."
Lisa smiled sadly.
"We had terrible lives until we met you, Barry Snart," she said. Barry nodded.
"Now, it's true. You were struck by lightning. Do you want some proof?"
Barry nodded.
"What is today?"
"August 1, ten days before Len's birthday," Barry said immediately.
Lisa grabbed her tablet.
It said May 1.
Barry looked at her.
Then he turned to Len, tears in his eyes.
"I missed your birthday," he whispered sadly.
Len laughed.
"That's ok. I'm pretty sure you had a good excuse. Besides, you didn't. I decided to have my party with you here, at STAR Labs."
Barry stared at Len. "You gave up your birthday for me?" he asked. Len nodded.
"Why? I was in a coma! It wasn't like I was going to appreciate the gesture!"
Lisa snorted.
"That is literally the exact thing I said," she said.
Len turned to glare at her.
"Meanie," he smirked.
"Asshole."
Barry looked between the two. "Did I miss something?"
...
After that joyful reunion, they decided to pull off another heist. For some reason, it was like Barry hadn't been in a coma. He was walking, talking, and think just fine. They still had to stay for over five extra hours for testing, but it was worth it just to know that Barry was ok.
"Where are we going to go?" Len asked.
"How about the bank?" Barry asked.
"Well, they actually closed while you were... asleep," Lisa said.
"Yeah. It really was a shame. It was fun to rob," Len added.
"Oh! Barry!" Barry turned to face Lisa, who was jumping like an excited puppy. "What?"
"Len made a new friend!"
"Lisa..." Len warned.
"His name is Mick!" Lisa continued.
"Can I meet him?" Barry asked hopefully.
"Told you!" Lisa said as she turned to Len.
"You said you wouldn't say anything!" Len groaned.
"I'm a lier! I don't keep my promises! Now, can he please join?" Lisa begged.
"Join what?" Barry asked.
Len rolled his eyes at his sister's antics.
"Fine. But give it some time, alright?" Len asked. Lisa nodded.
"I will hold you to that," Lisa said.
"Join what?" Barry asked, but they both ignored him.
After Lisa ratted Len out, they decided on what to rob, they decided to tell Barry to take a break.
"We're sorry, but we want to give you some time to recover," Len had said. Lisa had agreed.
So, Barry decided he would rob something by himself.
But first, he would need a new costume so they wouldn't recognize him on the news.
...
As he sat at home, he realized he felt extremely hungry.
But he had literally just eaten!
He wondered if he should go to STAR Labs about it.
He didn't really want to prove Len or Lisa right, so he decided to just keep eating until he was full.
By the time he was actually full, though, he had almost no food left.
When he was done eating, he decided to go running.
It had always calmed him.
But it was weird.
So he put on his watch and decided to run as fast as he could.
He ran for an hour, and he loved the sound of his feet pounding into the ground, the wind in his ears.
The weird thing was, the time seemed to be passing super slow. He literally counted to 60, but the time hadn't changed.
Maybe he needed a new watch.
And he never seemed to get tired.
He had run for what felt like hours, and he wasn't even panting.
What?
And he felt like he could run even longer, almost like he never had to stop.
It was so confusing.
He knew he couldn't go to STAR Labs or his siblings because he didn't want to prove them right.
Maybe a heist would clear his head (And stomach).
...
Barry sat alone. He had just beaten up a kid at school, and Lewis had been called.
He had been angry.
And he had left his mark on Barry.
He had left his first scar.
He felt like an item, only good for some things, and terrible at others.
He had never felt so alone.
Suddenly, Len walked in.
"Barry!" he called.
He was curled up in a ball, crying, and holding his new scar.
"He-He left a mark," Barry sobbed into Len's arms.
"Shhh," he whispered soothingly. "It's ok. It's ok."
"But it's not!" Barry burst out, "He hurt us, leaves marks, leaves scars, and we can't tell anyone! We have to suffer quietly while the rest of the world ignores us!"
Len looked at Barry and nodded to himself.
"Let's take you somewhere, huh?" he asked, and Barry nodded. "Anywhere but here," he said, and Len smiled.
"There's something I wanna show you."
...
That was how Barry found his love for music and got some awesome headphones.
...
Barry decided that he would try an find a classic.
He hoped some stuff hadn't changed.
...
Everything had changed! Not one place was the same as before his 'coma'!
How was that possible!?!?
He decided to explore STAR Labs a little more, seeing as how that was the only place that seemed to have worthwhile stuff.
After a while, he decided to try running again.
When he was done, he felt even hungrier. It felt like he was going to pass out.
He decided to check in with his new doctor, also the one he was robbing, Caitlin. At this point, there was nothing else to do.
"How much have you eaten today?" she asked him as he ran on a treadmill they apparently had laying around. "Uh... I had two hamburgers, two large fries, three hotdogs, an ice cream cone, and an entire large pizza," he listed.
Caitlin looked deep in thought.
"Has anything else weird been happening?" she asked.
"Well, yesterday I ran into a wall, and I think I fractured something, and it really hurt, but three hours later, I didn't feel it. I twisted it, but it was like it healed super quickly."
Caitlin nodded. "Anything else?"
"Well, when I ran today like I usually do, it felt like time slowed down. Like, my watch said half an hour, but it felt like three hours. And after actually running an hour, I wasn't panting. Like, I felt like I could run forever without getting tired. Also, when I ran before the coma, I would run for an hour and end up maybe 4 miles from my apartment. Now, I ended up 8 miles away."
"Anything else?" she asked with a laugh. Barry rolled his eyes.
When she was finally able to talk, she gave him an answer. "When the Particle Accelerator exploded, which created the lighting that struck you, some people's DNA was affected. They turned into what we like to call 'Metahumans,'" Caitlin explained.
"Where do I fit into that?" Barry asked.
"These Metahumans have extraordinary abilities, like changing the weather, or changing other people's emotions. When we heard about you, a guy who was struck by lighting the same night, we figured that you would be a Metahuman. Turns out we were right. I don't know your exact power, but it seems like you move faster than time. Can you run on the treadmill for me?"
Barry looked at her like she was crazy.
Metahumans?
"I guess," he responded.
He walked over and ran as fast as he could. When he looked back at Caitlin, her face was frozen. He shrugged. She was weird.
When he decided to be done, he was surprised to see that Caitlin had made a video.
"This is you running," she gasped.
She started it, and Barry gasped.
He looked like a blur.
"I think you run so fast that time slows down for you," Caitlin said.
Barry nodded, completely speechless.
"I'm the fastest man alive?"
Caitlin nodded. "I have no idea how fast you could actually go, but for all we know, you are."
Barry saw everything turn black before he heard the loud sound of his body hitting the floor.
...
Len sighed. "Why do I feel bad for not letting Barry come?" Len asked.
"I don't know why you feel guilty for not letting your little brother rob a bank," Lisa said.
"Seriously," Len said.
Lisa shrugged.
...
"I wonder what else you can do?" Cisco mused, "I mean, you can move super fast, so is there other things you can do?"
"I don't know. I mean, if I can go super fast, then according to Einstein's theory of special relativity, then I might be able to time travel," Barry mused. (Albert Einstein, in his theory of special relativity, determined that the laws of physics are the same for all non-accelerating observers, and he showed that the speed of light within a vacuum is the same no matter the speed at which an observer travels.)
Then he realized what he said.
"Holy shit! I might be able to time travel!"
He and Cisco high fived.
"That's awesome!"
Suddenly, Len and Lisa walked in.
"Did you know about the Metahumans?" Barry asked.
"Uhh," Len and Lisa said together.
"I think I am one," they also said together, which shocked all five of them.
"That's awesome! What are your powers?"
"Well, I seem to be able to freeze things," Len said.
"And I can turn things to gold, like King Midas, except I can control it," Lisa added.
Barry decided not to tell them.
He could be a secret robber with super speed. 'Cause that would be awesome. What would his name be?
"Are you one, Barry?" Lisa asked.
Barry shrugged. "I have no idea," he said, "I've only been awake for a week. How would I know?"
Lisa and Len nodded, while Caitlin and Cisco just looked confused.
"What would you call a guy with super speed?" he asked Lisa.
"Zoom!" she said immediately.
"What? Who doesn't like a good pun?" she responded to the shocked glances.
"That's my sister," Len crowed.
Lisa rolled her eyes.
"Dorks," she muttered as she walked out.
Len smirked as he followed her out.
"Wanna race?" was the last thing heard, but Barry would've sworn he heard Lisa's eye roll.
"I love them," he said.
Cisco and Caitlin nodded.
"I actually gotta head home," he said.
"Wait! Why did you lie to them?" Caitlin shouted, but he was already gone.
"Damnit. I guess I'll be needing paperweights."
