Chapter 2

Barry sat alone, staring at the wall.

He was terrified if he spoke he would get yelled at.

Again.

So, he sat quietly, praying he would appear invisible.

He couldn't help it; he started to cry quietly.

"Hey," someone said.

Barry turned to look at him, the fear in his eyes obvious.

"Did he yell?" the nice boy asked. Barry nodded.

"Oh, sorry. My name is Leonard, but you can call me Len, Lenny, or Leo."

"I-I like Len," Barry whispered.

"It's ok. As long as you don't yell, you should be fine," Len said.

Barry blushed.

"Oh, don't worry, Scarlet," Len smiled, and Barry blushed. "Why Scarlet?" Barry asked. "Your face," Len admitted, and Barry blushed even harder. "It's Barry," he said finally.

"You already know my name, but the little girl who has been watching you for a while name is Lisa."

Suddenly, a pretty 8-year-old came out from behind the couch.

"Jerk!" she said.

"Quiet!" Lewis yelled.

Barry jumped, fear creeping back in and he started to shake.

"Hey, hey, it's ok," Len said while Lisa crawled into Barry's lap. Barry leaned on Len, and Len rested his head on Barry's.

"We have to stay together, ok? To protect each other," Len said, and Lisa nodded. Barry was already asleep.

...

Len remembered feeling so protective of Barry, wanting to make sure Lewis never hut him again.

Now, he felt like he had failed.

He was supposed to have gotten more money but had instead gotten himself in jail.

What kind of lousy brother does that?

He stared at the way, feeling absolutely miserable and wishing he could freeze the cell doors open.

Suddenly, his hands started to feel cold.

He closed his eyes and held on tighter to the cell bars.

He only opened them when he heard a loud crack.

He looked at where bars should have been in awe.

They were gone.

As soon as he had made it out of the prison, Len rushed to the hospital, he wondered what had happened.

And how to do it again.

When he walked in, he saw Lisa sitting alone, crying quietly.

He moved closer to her and gave her a hug.

"Len-Lenny?"

"Yep. I'm not going anywhere, sis."

She gasped and flung herself into his arms.

"I missed you so much," she whispered, and Len felt the tears soak his shirt.

"Well, I love you and all, but I love this shirt too so..."

She chuckled and sat up.

"How's Barry?" Len asked.

"He's in a coma."

That memory was playing through Len's head at the moment.

He had visited Barry every day since, and it had been eight months.

He wondered if Barry was ever going to wake up.

He flatlined daily, and Len felt his heart shatter every time.

When he arrived for his daily visit one day, Harrison Wells was there, waiting for him.

"Can I help you?" Len asked.

"Are you Leonard Snart, Barry's brother?" Harrison responded without looking up.

"Who's asking?"

Harrison nodded slowly. "No, I'm not going to arrest you or your brother. I was just thinking, I can probably help him," he gestured to Barry, "If you let me."

"How?" Len demanded.

"I don't know yet, but he flatlines at least twice a day here. Maybe he should try something different."

Len thought it over.

It could help Barry.

"Fine," Len agreed and offered his hand to shake the Harrison's.

They shook on it.

For the next month, Len was scared.

What if they couldn't save Barry?

What if he died?

He felt tears prick his eyes.

"Boss?" Mick called, forcing Len to focus.

"You know, I've never actually seen you cry," Hartley mused. The other Rogues nodded.

"I've seen him fake cry," Mark added.

"But never real," Shawna continued.

"So, what's up?"

Lisa gasped quietly (Which was apparently loud enough to get everyone's attention), and you could tell that she had been crying, and was about to start again.

"I-I think I'll stay out of this heist," she mumbled as she ran for the nearest bathroom, Shawna right behind her.

Len wished he could just lay by his brother's side, be there the second he woke up, but he couldn't.

He wouldn't.

...

"Lisa? What's wrong?" Shawna asked.

Lisa gasped.

"There's... someone I never told you about," Lisa said.

Shawna was immediately interested.

"But I can't now."

Shawna felt her hopes go down the drain.

"But... something happened, and now... I can't say any more."

Shawna nodded.

"Here," she said and hugged Lisa.

Lisa squeezed back even harder.

...

"What do you think he likes to do?" Cisco mused.

"Well, probably rob a bank," Caitlin answered.

"That's harsh. I don't judge you by your mom, and you don't judge me by my brother."

"Fine. Whatever. Maybe he likes music?"

"Yes! I should totally turn some music on! Maybe it'll wake him up!"

Cisco ran to turn on the speakers.

Caitlin just rolled her eyes.

He came back out a minute later. "What song?" he asked.

Caitlin shrugged. "How about Demons, by Imagine Dragons?"

"You like 'em dark," Cisco said as he raced back.

...

"Can we tell Mick? About Barry?" Lisa whispered. "No. He's got a temper," Len responded.

"But he's your best friend!" Lisa protested.

"So what?"

Lisa sighed.

"Fine. But can I tell Shawna about him?"

"No."

"Fine, ya big meany," Lisa said.

"Don't ya mean asshole? Your an adult, Lisa. We don't use words like 'meany'."

"Fine. Asshole," she muttered.

"You wanna head to STAR Labs?" was his response.

"Sure. But I have to try something first."

...

As Lisa walked away from her brother, she couldn't help but feel like she and Mick were lying to him.

Everyone else had already told him their powers.

Bivolo: Emotions.

Shawna: Teleporting.

Kyle: Gas.

Mark: Weather.

Hartley: Sound.

She and Mick still haven't admitted it.

She was like King Midas.

She could turn stuff to gold.

Mick could create and control fire.

She wondered how she could tell him.

...

Barry sat in his bedroom, praying that Len hadn't lied, that he would never leave them.

He was turning 18 today.

And he could leave.

Sure, he had promised that he wouldn't, but Barry didn't care.

He still could.

He had decided that he wasn't going to try to hurt himself this time.

He had a new outlet.

Music.

It was calming.

So, to calm himself down, he put his headphones on and tried to decide what song to play.

"Well...

"Thunder was awesome, so let's explore some of their other songs."

Barry listened to Whatever it Takes, Thunder, Radioactive, and Demons.

While he was listening to Demons (Again), Len knocked on his bedroom door. Seeing as how he had headphones in, he didn't hear him.

"Barry?"

No response.

He went in, and saw Barry, with tears in his eyes and his headphones in. He was mouthing something, and after a minute, Len realized what it was.

Len.

"Barry?" he asked again, this time taking the headphones off. He looked into Barry's eyes, and he saw the raw pain there.

"Are-Are you really going to stay?" Barry begged. Len nodded.

"I told you I would."

"I-I didn't believe you," Barry admitted.

Len smiled.

"But I have a way to get all three of us out of here."

...

Since that day, Barry's favorite song had always been Demons, by Imagine Dragons.

...

"It's where my demons hide, it's where my demons hide. Don't get too close; it's dark inside..."

He opened his eyes with a gasp.

"Where am I?" he asked (Ok. So, I'm just quoting script here, but if he had just been in a coma for 9 months, wouldn't his voice be a little horse?).

"Here's up!" Caitlin called.

"Ya think?" Cisco asked.

"110, pulse 120. Pupils equally reactive to light. Look at me. Look at me," Caitlin said, but Barry kept fidgeting.

"Hey, hey, hey. Woah, relax. Everything's okay, man. You're at S.T.A.R. Labs," Cisco said as he came up behind Caitlin.

"S.T.A.R. Labs... Who are you?" Barry asked.

"I'm Cisco Ramon. She's Caitlin-Dr. Snow." (See, here's another thing. If he was such a nerd about the Particle Accelerator, shouldn't he recognize the people who built it?)

Barry looked at them. He would admit that he was a nerd. But he wasn't that much of a nerd.

He looked around at all of the expensive equipment.

How much would it be worth?

He knew he would definitely snag some stuff on the way out.

Suddenly, 'Dr. Snow' picked up a cup. "I need you to urinate in this."

Barry looked at her like she was crazy.

He then started to wonder if she was crazy.

He started to struggle, but they easily overpowered him.

"What is happening? What is going on?" Barry asked, turning to Cisco, hoping the crazy lady would leave. (Poor Caitlin... I'm sorry, but this is too good)

"You were struck by lightning, dude." (It annoys me to no end that he believes that right away. If it were me, and I woke up surrounded by people I didn't know, or even people I did know, I wouldn't just believe them. Seriously)

"I don't believe you," he said and turned away from the obviously crazy people to notice that he was shirtless.

"What? Enjoy the view?" Barry asked angrily, then gestured to his abs.

Caitlin rolled her eyes.

"No. It was so we could help you, you dick!" she snapped.

"Wait. You looked at my dick?" Barry asked (Honestly sorry).

Caitlin rolled her eyes. "You were in a coma for 9 months! How do you think you went to the bathroom?"

Barry looked at her. "I-I was in a coma? For 9 months?" he asked.

Caitlin and Cisco nodded. "If you don't believe us, ask your brother, who should be in here in ten minutes," Cisco said as he checked his watch.

Barry felt overwhelmed.

These weird people were saying that it had been nine months, that he had been struck by lightning, and he was starting to wonder if it was true.

...

After exactly ten minutes, Len came running through the door.

"Is there any cha-"

He looked at Barry, who was sitting up and gasped, tears filling his eyes.

"Bear?"

"Lenny?"

Len charged him, wrapping his long arms around him.

"What's going on? These weirdos kept saying that I was hit by lightning!" Barry said, and Len looked up.

"I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. They saved your life. You've been in a coma for nine months."

Barry stared at Len.

'You're-You're crazy," he said and started to back up.

Len ran toward him, but after a minute, it appeared that he was going slower than he did when he was walking.

"Len?" Barry asked.

He didn't answer.

Barry looked around and noticed another bed in the corner before passing out.
