Chapter 14: Mama's Melody
A Week Later
At Barry and Allegra's Apartment
Eobard and Nora had come downstairs to start breakfast.
While Eobard was busy cooking pancakes, Nora was rummaging underneath the TV stand, seemingly searching for something.
With a smirk on his face, Eobard called out, "Hey, Sis, you gonna help me with the food, or what?"
Nora looked at Eobard, "Hey, did you know there are childhood videos of Mom over here?"
Eobard looked at Nora and said, "What? Mom never really talked about her childhood in 2049, right?"
Nora nodded, her eyes scanning through the DVDs. "Yeah, she never did."
"Hey, Bard, look," Nora said suddenly.
Eobard turned down the stove and walked over to see what she had found.
Nora smiled, holding up a DVD. "This one has a picture of Mom as a kid with... it looks like Grandpa, maybe."
The duo studied the photo of a young Allegra being held in the air, smiling at the camera from her father's shoulder.
"Mom looks so happy there," Eobard said, a smile spreading across his face.
"Yeah," Nora agreed. "You might want to get back to your pancakes now."
"Right," Eobard said, rushing over to flip the pancake.
Nora chuckled, watching her brother.
She put one of the disks in the player and started watching it.
Eobard glanced over to see a birthday video playing on the TV. Nora sat on the couch, engrossed in the scene.
On the screen, Allegra was surrounded by her father, her uncle, aunt, and cousin, all singing Happy Birthday. The family laughed and chatted, their joy palpable.
"Hey, Nor... Grandpa reminds me of Dad. Look at that smile," Eobard remarked.
Nora nodded, smiling. "He does."
Eobard finished cooking the pancakes and set them aside. He turned off the stove and walked over to join Nora in watching the video.
As they were watching, Allegra came downstairs to get some water. She noticed the TV showing one of her old birthday parties and saw Nora and Eobard watching intently.
"What are you two doing?" Allegra asked, her voice tinged with curiosity and concern.
Eobard looked over at his mom and said, "Nothing, Mom... just watching one of your birthday videos. Is there a reason you never talked about this? Everyone looks so happy."
Allegra walked over and turned off the TV, her expression serious. Nora and Eobard exchanged a glance, sensing they were in trouble.
"Look, babies," Allegra began, her voice softening, "I love you both so much. But there are reasons I never talk about him or my past, and I didn't want you kids to see this."
"Him?" Eobard asked, confused.
Allegra sighed deeply. "My father. I don't want you two discussing this with anyone. It's a part of my life I prefer to keep private."
"Mom... we didn't know," Nora said gently.
"We're sorry, Mom," Eobard added. "We made pancakes. Please, have some." He carefully took out the disc and placed it back where it belonged, then quietly left the house, feeling the weight of their discovery.
Nora and Allegra stood in the living room, the silence between them heavy with unspoken words.
Later
Eobard had gone for a walk in the park to clear his head. As he strolled through the greenery, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen and saw it was his mother calling.
"Hello? Mom, what's up?" he answered.
"Hey, baby," Allegra's voice came through the line, soft and apologetic. "I wanted to apologize if I was a bit rude earlier. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, sweetheart."
"It's not that, Mom. I promise," Eobard reassured her.
Allegra sighed. "The reason I never talk about my dad is because he kicked me out when I was 16. He didn't approve of the path I was taking, and just three days later, he passed away."
"Mom," Eobard said, his voice filled with empathy, "if you were worried I would judge you, I swear I never would. I love you, and you deserve so much more than the world could offer."
Eobard paused, lost in thought for a moment.
"Baby... hello? Eobard, are you there, honey?" Allegra's voice brought him back.
"I'm here. I just had an idea. I'll see you soon," he said, a spark of inspiration lighting up his eyes.
"Okay, baby. I love you. Bye," Allegra said.
"I love you too, Mom. Bye," Eobard replied, ending the call.
He immediately called his dad. When Barry answered, he sounded concerned. "Hey, son. What's up? Where are you? You're not at home."
"Dad, I need help. I just came up with this perfect idea for a song about Mom. Can you help me?" Eobard explained.
"Yes, absolutely. I know a songwriter and producer. I'll call him and see if he can help with your idea," Barry responded.
"Just send me a text if he agrees, and I'll meet him wherever he wants," Eobard said.
"Got it," Barry replied before ending the call.
Eobard slipped his phone back into his pocket and continued his walk, feeling a renewed sense of purpose.
Later
Barry arrived at Daniel's adoptive parents' house and knocked on the door. Charlie opened it with a welcoming smile.
"Are you here to see Daniel?" Charlie asked.
Barry shook his head. "No, actually. My friend has an idea for a song, and I was wondering if you could help."
Charlie nodded. "Sure, is he here? In your car?"
At superspeed, Barry sent a quick text. Moments later, Eobard stepped out of the car and approached the door.
"This is Eobard, my friend," Barry introduced. "He has a clear vision for the song."
Charlie smiled and gestured for them to come in. "Alright, let's head to my office," he said, leading the way inside.
In Charlie's office
As the three entered the office, Eobard was deep in thought, considering the notes for his song.
Charlie asked, "Alright, what's the song about?"
Eobard replied, "It's about my mother. She lost her dad at a young age, and I want to create a song that she would be proud of."
Charlie nodded appreciatively. "Nice. I like it. Let's figure out what the sound is going to be."
"I envision it with a piano," Eobard explained. "Something sweet and melodic. I want it to be soothing."
Charlie smiled. "You've got a clear vision for this. I like your hustle."
"Thanks, man," Eobard said, grateful for the support.
As the trio brainstormed ideas, they spent most of the day working on the song. They even gathered more of Allegra's backstory, unaware of its purpose.
Later
Back at Barry and Allegra's Apartment
Barry and Eobard walked into the living room, where Jason, Jenny, Bart, and Nora were gathered with Allegra.
Allegra turned around, her face a mix of relief and frustration. "Where have you two been!? Do you have any idea how worried I was?"
Eobard stepped forward. "Mom, it was me. I wanted to do something for you. Don't blame Dad."
With determination, Eobard walked over to the piano in the living room and began to play the chords.

Eobard sang "Listen, Mama, so many words to describe you
Strong would be an understatement
Warrior would suit you so much better
'Cause you've been fighting
She was just turning 16
Daddy left her out in the cold streets
He wasn't having it
He found all her sins underneath her mattress
Then suddenly her daddy up and died
But still, she sees her father there in Barry's eyes
Mama, oh Mama
For everything you've been through, there's nothing that I won't do for you
Mama, Oh Mama
See you deserve the best of what this world can offer to you
Mama I love you, Mama, Mama, Mama I do love you
Mama, I love you, Mama, Mama"
Allegra smiled, tears glistening in her eyes as she listened to each word. She blew a kiss to her son and mouthed, "I love you."
Eobard smiled and sang "In love with the thought of becoming queen
She never told, she did seventeen
She gave it all so unselfishly
And she did it all just for loyalty, that's my Mama
I never knew someone to sacrifice, everything for love
Even gave up their whole lives
Mama, Oh Mama
For everything you've been through, nothing that I won't do for you
Oh, Mama
See you deserve the best of what this world can offer
You're the reason for my being here
Mama, I'm so grateful, yes I am
I'm gon' be the one to guide your heart
Although Barry raised us, you still made us from the sun
Mama, Oh Mama
For everything you've been through, there's nothing that I wouldn't do for you
Oh, Mama
See you deserve the best of what this world can offer to you"
Eobard looked at his family and saw tears in all of their eyes. With a heartfelt smile, he said, "I'm sorry you went through all of that, Mama. But you have us here, and we love you so much."
Tears welled up in his own eyes as Allegra quickly walked over and hugged him tightly. "I love you, baby. I love all of you so much," she said.
Barry joined in, "And I love you all too."
Everyone stood up and embraced in a group hug.
Barry remarked, "You know, I think this is the nicest thing that has happened in this family—just being here for each other."
Eobard added, "Well, Iris and Henry went back to the future. Let's hope we can change that future."
Allegra smiled warmly. "I believe you can, baby. Just like with that song."
The room was filled with smiles and warmth. They ordered pizza and shared a meal together before heading to bed, their hearts full of hope and love.
To be continued...
