Chapter 26: The Sight
"Shit Anya!" Smith cursed as he watched his mate collapse to the floor.
Rushing to Anya's aid Hannah caught her before she could hit her head.
"What the hell is going on?" Trott questioned as he helped lift Anya up onto a seat that sat in the corner of the room.
"I don't know? Looks like she just blacked out" Hannah said checking Anya's vital signs.
"This is just getting crazy" Ross commented from the sidelines as he held Smith to the bed to prevent him from rushing to Anya's side, therefore preferring him from opening his still fresh wound.
Hannah sighed, "We need to tell Lewis that Liam is a threat".
"Liam?" Trott asked not recognising the name.
Hannah nodded and looked out the window, "Yea, Liam is Parker's older brother. He's the alpha of a pack that controls most of the Devon area. And since Anya has killed his brother, I can guarantee he will be searching for the wolf responsible".
"What does that mean for Anya? After all she killed an Alpha, I've never heard of anyone being able to actually kill a leader of a pack, especially a mutt, it's unheard of" Smith asked finally laying still while Ross helped him sit up using a couple pillows.
Hannah shrugged her shoulders, "I'm not sure..."
"Doesn't that mean she's an alpha?" Trott entered thinking about how pack hierarchy works.
"No... Could she? But... How... Oh..." Smith stammered then he thought of the changes he had noticed in Anya, especially in her wolf form; tail held high, ears pricked, standing tall; maybe she was an alpha.
Ross shook his head, "But she has no pack. It's obvious that the remainder of Parker's pack has ran off to Liam's pack, and they must have sent the hunters, to test us! To kill us!"
A growl rose in Smith throat and he shifted uncomfortably.
Hannah sighed and looked down at Anya, "Ever since her first shift I knew she was different, her eyes, her refusal to step down. It was all leading to this".
Trott looked at Hannah and tilted his head, "You mean Anya was always meant to be an alpha?"
Nodding Hannah shivered, "Have you ever wondered about Anya's wolf eye colour?"
The Hat Films lads looked at each other in confusion and in turn shook their heads.
"I knew it was different but I didn't know it was possible" Ross finally said.
Hannah sat down on the end of Smith's bed and got ready to tell the ancient tale, "Blue eyed humans that retain their eye colour through the shift have always been rare but it was thought they had all died out and became a myth. Along with the colour of their eyes it was said they would gain the Sight".
"The Sight?" Trott questioned but Ross hushed him eager to listen to Hannah's story.
"Those with the Sight were said to get glimpses of future through their dreams and through visions" Hannah continued.
Smith looked over to Anya who still lay unconscious in the corner, "She's never said anything about any visions" he said trying to make sense of the fairy tale.
Ross pondered Smith's statement then shrugged his shoulders, "Would you tell someone if you seen the future? And like Hannah said if they are in dreams they could just be brushed aside".
"That's very true Ross. Lewis and I had thought of telling Anya but we didn't want to scare her and after all The Sight is a myth" Hannah confessed but she couldn't help but think that Anya's sudden collapse was caused by the gift they were taking about.
"We should tell her" Smith said but Hannah shook her head, "Don't you think she has enough to worry about?".
Smith sighed then nodded, "I guess..." He said reluctantly.
Anya stirred in the corner alerting the four who were still pondering Anya's possible abilities.
"Ugh" Anya grumbled clutching her head, looking up she seen the others staring at her, "What did I do?" She questioned.
"Nothing" Ross quickly replied but Anya didn't believe it a second.
"What's going on?" She said but they refused to answer, "Ugh forget it".
Trying to stand up Anya stumbled and Ross caught her, "Careful there" he smiled but Anya pulled her arm from his hold, "I'm fine" she groaned slowly shuffling to Smith's side where she sat on the floor by the bed.
Hannah looked at Ross and Trott and motioned to the door, "We'll leave you two" she said before leaving.
Anya closed her eyes, suddenly feeling exhausted. However as she drifted off she jumped as Smith played with a strand of her hair, "Anya?"
"Yea Smith?" Anya said her eyes barely staying open, "What just happened?" He asked and Anya cringed, "Nothing" she lied.
"Anya I may be injured but I'm not stupid, no one passes out for no reason" Smith questioned again, desperate to find out if Hannah's tale held truth.
"I'm just tired, that's all" Anya answered and Smith sighed, "Okay Moon of my life, but please, don't suffer alone".
Anya felt the tears well up at Smith's words, she couldn't tell him, the voice in her head had told her the fate that she was destined for. Yet still unsure of it's meaning she knew it wasn't going to be a happy ending.
Only time would tell.
