"We've been looking for you." The boy tells me.
"What are they talking about?" Tris asks me.
But I can't tell her right now. There are too many things I haven't told her.
So I walk away.
"Four." she calls after me.
I continue to follow the Factionless boy into the front of the car.
Once we're as far as we can get out of Tris's range of hearing, he begins talking.
"We'll let you stay on the train as long as when we get to our stop, you come with us." He doesn't look as pissed as he did just a few minutes ago. I'm getting somewhere even though I haven't said or done anything.
"But why?" I ask, even though I already know the answer.
"You're mother's been searching for you for a while. I'll probably get a promotion if I bring you to her."
So my mother's the head of Factionless...
And she's been searching for me...
She just doesn't give up does she?
That day when I passed Dauntless initiation comes to mind. I was coming into my room to relax after a long day of work but when I saw the state my room was in, all I could think about was finding out who had done it. When I surveyed the damge, I saw that nothing had been stolen, just rattled enough so that I would notice that someone had been there.
After I had put everything back in its place, I noticed something very small laying on my pillow.
Turns out, it was a note telling me to come to the train tracks outside of Dauntless at some time in the evening.
When I went to see who was waiting for me, I almost ran back inside.
It was my mom.
The encounter between is didn't go as she's planned. I really didn't want to see her or have anything to do with her - after all, she had left me alone with Marcus and made us believe she was dead for years - but the real reason she had wanted to see me was to recruit me for a rebellion against Erudite and the faction system. Of course at the time I didn't even think it was possible for Jeanine to be as twisted as she is. I knew our society wasn't perfect, but I wanted to at least believe that the things I had grown to creating acclimated to were good.
But I was majorly mistaken.
If only I had listened to her, perhaps I could've stopped the attack on Abnegation before it even began.
And of course she wasn't going to take no for an answer.
"So a are you going to comply?" The boy asked me, bringing me back to reality.
"Yes, as long as the rest of my group is treated with respect."
"Granted!" He said, and snapped in my face. "I'm Edgar by the way." He then extended his hand to me.
I took it and gave him a firm handshake.

"This is our stop." Edgar told us.
By now, he and I had regrouped with the others and brought them up to date with what and where we'd be going.
Tris and I haven't spoken since before I went in the front to talk to Edgar.
Not wanting any tension between us, I walk beside her and place my hand gently on her injured shoulder.
"It's been a while since I checked that shoulder. Is it doing okay?"
"Considering the fact that I keep landing on it or ramming it into something it most likely had gotten worse, but don't worry. I brought the pain medication." She looks up at me and smiles.
How I love her smile.
Just then I see Edgar come up beside me.
"Get ready.. GO!" As soon as he yells, I get myself ready and jump like it's second nature.
Mainly because it is.
After everyone had jumped and I've made sure Tris's shoulder is okay from her jump, the Factionless lead us through back alleys and garbage heaps, and I have to wrinkle my nose every few seconds because of the rancid smell.
We continue on for a few more minutes until Edgar stops in front of a rusty door embedded in one of the brick buildings to our left.
With some struggle, he opens it and mockingly welcomes us inside.
It is dark at first, but as we advance, it gets easier and easier to see. I begin surveying our surroundings.
There are people up high and low wearing everything from black and gray to red and blue.
And on top of all of that, there are so much more of them than I thought there was.
"This is Factionless?" Caleb asks rhetorically. "This is insane."
We continue following Edgar through the crowd of people, but I start noticing that they are clearing the way.
Clearing the way for someone.
They all move out of the way until eventually there's only one person in front of us.
Evelyn.
My mom.
