CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR

Clay felt his heart beating against his chest as he played with his phone in his hands while George and Nick talked away to each other. Today was a very important day for him and he knew that it was going to cause absolute chaos, the timer had been set and there was only ten minutes until his face was revealed to the world. At the time, the recording had been fun but now he was filled with anxiety. His best friends had of course seen this and they had decided to get him out of the house and bring him to the dinner, for whatever reason.

"Clay," George says and Clay stops his leg from bouncing, only to see that both of his best friends were staring at him. "I've been saying your name for the last thirty seconds." He says with a small laugh which makes Clay smile a little as Nick spins his straw in his drink, his eyes flickering between the blond and the other side of the room.

"Sorry," Clay said lazily as he took a sip of his sprite. His eyes went to his phone where he was on his backup YouTube account, watching the chat for the premiere video fly by. He wanted to know what people were saying and it didn't seem that bad right now. "What's up?" He muttered and his friends shared an amused grin before looking back to him.

"She keeps looking at you." Nick said, clearly trying his best to be quite but failing pretty hard. Clay's head snapped up and turned in the direction where Nick was looking, only to see that the Texas boy was lying to him. "You're a fucking idiot." He laughs but George rolls his eyes, typing something into his phone before nudging Nick jokingly.

"Shut up," He sighs, looking back down at his phone which showed up that there was a large countdown on the screen. Clay could physically feel his heart racing in his chest, almost painfully due to how much pure anxiety that was rushing through his veins. "One minute." He said, his voice barely audible but of course George and Nick pick up on it.

"It'll be fine Clay," George said to his friend over the hustle of the rush hour dinner.

"No matter how ugly you are," Nick grinned as he reached his hand out and placed it against Clay's. The blond rolled his eyes but there was a small smile that appeared on his face. "We'll support you even if the fans destroy you on Twitter." He jokes with a small laugh which of course gets a laugh from the other two.

"Thanks for being so supportive Sap," Clay scoffs a little but before he can go on with what he is saying there is the sound of something hitting the ground next to their table. Hard. Followed by a long string of muttered curse words that any sailor would be proud of.

"Oh shit." Nick muttered and Clay slide out of his seat to grab the phone which had fallen to the ground.

"Here," Clay picked up the older model phone which had a crack on the top right corner but it was probably just the screen protector. He looked up to see that a blond was bent down on his level and had also been going to grab the phone before he had gotten to it first. His eyes widened a little as he stood up with the light pink phone in his hands.

"Thank you," Barbie, the blonde girl said. Clay couldn't help but notice that her voice was much calmer and more chilled in real life but also was much more softer. It was clear that whatever tone she used online was not her normal one, he had learned that after listening to her talk at the dinner. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw George and Nick share a shocked look.

"One thing though," Clay said as he decided to just throw it. He was already showing his face to the world right now so why wouldn't he just ask to give this girl, his dream girl, his phone number. What's the worst she could say? She looked up at him with a small frown of curiosity, unsure what he was thinking about at the moment. "Before I give it back, I have to add my number." He grinned and a small grin appeared on Kali's face despite the fact that she was trying her best to hide it.

"Do you now?" She asked with a raise of her eyebrows, taking her phone from his hands and typing in her password. Clay watched as she traced over the new crack with her finger but she didn't seem to upset about it.

"I think so." Clay says with a confident tone but deep down he was hoping that he was going to get her number. He knew full well that if he didn't then George and Nick were going to laugh their asses off at him but if he was going to get it he would be over the moon. And as the blond hands her phone back to him after creating a new contact he feels himself smiling like a child.

"Thank you," Kali says with an equally bright smile on her face as she watched him type in his number. He added his name afterwards and snapped a quick picture of his face which Kali honestly found amusing. "Clay." She smiled as she read the name out loud before pocketing her phone again.

"No problem Kali." He grinned, reading her name tag and she laughed a little before going back to the kitchen where she was immediately greeted by Grace who asked a million questions while Kali just laughed. Meanwhile Clay turned back to the table to see his best friends staring at him as if a miracle had just happened while his face reveal played on his phone which was turned face down, now far out of his mind.
