CHAPTER TWENTY

"So," Clay walked down the stairs, hearing one of his best friends voices travel to where he was from the kitchen. Clay was dressed up in jeans and a sweatshirt, getting ready for his day out of the house. "How are we even going to do this?" George's voice is louder then he must assume because the house, while it is not empty, clearly needs to be decorated some more. Clay took another step down the stairs with a curious expression on his face.

"I don't even know," Nick's voice is the one who Clay hears next and Clay takes another careful and silent step down the stairs. There was the sound of the someone, Clay guessed Nick, clicking a pen open and shut then open again. "How do you even get her alone?" The younger of the trio asked and Clay's eyebrows scrunched up, a confusion crossing him. Neither of them had talked to him about girls before, or at least more recently since they've both moved.

"We could ask," Clay reached the bottom step and it freaked which stopped whatever George was saying. Without hesitation, to not seem suspicious, Clay made his way into the kitchen to see both of them sitting at the kitchen island. Both also looked as if they had just been caught red handed.

"What are you guys talking about?" Clay asked with a raise of his eyebrow but he made his way towards the fridge. He wanted to grab his water bottle from where it was, where it was being kept cold, and he opened it before turning towards his best friends. He noticed that Nick's laptop was suddenly closed.

"Nothing." Nick responded quickly.

"Barbie." George told the truth which made Nick glare at him. In response George only gave him a halfhearted shrug.

"Alright," Clay nodded a little with a confused expression on his face but he decided not to ask any questions. He had no idea what the two were up to but he had plans and couldn't stick around to figure out what exactly they were doing.

"Where are you off too?" George asks and Clay shifts in his spot a little, his eyes traveling to the front door of the house after he glanced at his watch. The two other boys glanced at each other already knowing his answer.

"The dinner." All three speak at the same time and while a grin appears on George and Nick's faces. A slightly annoyed look crossed over Clay's though as he looked at his best friends.

"I hate you both." Clay decided to tell them both and this of course only made them smile some more. He shook his head and patted his pockets to make sure he had his car keys. "I'm leaving." He told the two and started on his way to the front door. George and Nick watched with amused looks on their faces as Clay shot them the middle finger one more time before he closed the door. It took seconds for George and Nick to get back on topic.

"Maybe we message her," George nodded a little, continuing on with what he had been saying before they had been so rudely interrupted by Clay. Nick shrugged a little and opened his laptop again which showed his Discord open with Barbie's Discord server up.

"Will she even respond?" Nick asked as he clicked on the icon which allowed her profile to pop up on the screen.

"We could go through Tommy," George said slowly, as if it was a long drawn out thought that he wasn't sure that he wanted to go through with. Both of the two turned towards each other and they were silent for a moment.

"You're going to ask Tommy?" Nick questioned with his eyebrows raised ever so slightly,

"Good point." George muttered and the two were once again left at square one on their attempt to get Barbie and Clay alone.
