CHAPTER 15

"The successor of the Unitor of dragons, leader of the rebellion"

"How did I not notice anything? If I weren't young and oblivious life would've been so much easier!"

The room was still silent with everyone's eyes on me. I knew what they wanted, what they expected. But I couldn't help being afraid.

Afraid to let them down, to not live up to their expectations and fail. If I didn't take care of this successfully years of work and preparation would go to waste. Years of work my mother put into this.

She set all of this up for me, thought ahead and made all the necessary preparations just for this moment, expecting me to make the right decision right now.
The pressure that was suddenly falling down on me was immense, and I couldn't get myself to get up from the ground. Because I was not standing anymore, I was kneeling.

I wasn't kneeling out of respect or gratitude, but because of the weight and trust everyone here, and probably a lot more outside of this room, had placed on my shoulders. The newfound burden for me to carry.

I looked up, because that was the only thing I could at the moment, and saw their "leader" coming up to me. He grabbed something from behind his back. I didn't need to look at the item in front of me to already know what it was. Of course it was the mask presented in the book.

Meant for the "Dragon Conquerer". The name I'd been persistently denying and refusing up until now. I knew that this group needed someone with a well-known name to represent and guide them. They needed to get far with someone's already popular name. And I now needed to do everything in my power to make that fantasy a reality, even it it'd only be to make my mother's wish something more than a story written in a book. I needed to take this to the history books instead.

I made eye contact with the leader of Berk's part of the rebellion, that being none other than Fishlegs, and took the helmet.

Everyone present here was witnessing something that would change the current ways between Vikings and Dragons, and everyone was also still thinking that I was really kneeling down out of respect, but I wasn't going to tell them the truth about that anyways.

And as I managed to get back on my tw- uhhhh.... foot, I looked around the room declaring that I would be the one to make this movement as big as in the books. That this wouldn't just die out, this was going to be big, and as un-kill-able as a mosquito.

(You may notice I'm not telling you the real speech. This was a wise decision because I'm self conscious and it was probably quite cheesy for an upcoming leader of a new rebellion)

I put the helmet under my arm and was escorted out of the room soon after. The person with the dual colored eyes joining me.

I was led to a room where a fire was already burning in a hearth. I could feel a pleasant warmth coming from it and unconsciously walked closer to it whole entering.

The dual colored eye person showed me a closet. It was filled with the full armor matching the helmet I was still carrying. There was also a pitch black cape hanging next to it, and I was ecstatic about it. It looked impressive, and I could already image that others would think the same about it.

So if I wore the outfit I should be able to look intimidating enough to impress the crowds, right?

I looked behind me again, curiously eying the one person that'd led me here.
"So I was wondering.." Whilst saying it a look of understanding dawned showed in their eyes and I was interrupted before I could even finish my question. "I'm Rae, I'm from an unknown island somewhere in the archipelago, What you'll call me is really up to you as it doesn't matter to me in the slightest".

I'd heard rumors about places where occupation mattered more than what one identified as, for Vikings such as the ones on berk it might have been a foreign and hard to accept concept, but on my way to start a rebellion myself witnessing things like this was strangely comforting. It was a great concept: not having to be bound by anything at birth unless you decided for yourself, at least that's what I thought.

Filing away that thought I returned to the present and formed my response: "Nice to meet you then Rae. I'm Hiccup, although I think you already knew that?"

They smiled at me and turned around again to leave the room. After they'd left I noticed that the ambiance in the room already felt a lot lighter as I'd already had the chance to have a normal conversation with someone. Such normal things at a time like this left a certain warmth in the room that a hearth would be able to produce. It was a pleasant feeling.

Eventually my gaze went back to the armor, which had caught my eye the second I'd laid my eyes on it, I couldn't wait to put it on and go on to discuss my plans about our new and upcoming moves with the rest of the team.

Someone stood near the entry of the room anxiously waiting to tell me something, I told him that he didn't have to wait for my affirmation to speak. Knowing that he quickly announced what had been on his mind while I was probably admiring the armor in front of me.

"I think a meeting's in place right now!"

"Gods, would I be late to my first official meeting?"
